    oh hey there

For some reason, maybe talking to Ken (KC) yesterday, during my workday today compelled me to revisit the live music archive and take a trip down memory lane. I stumbled on Fat Cats NYE 31/12/04 ( (Bless, Esau!). Listened to the whole thing, so many memories. Somehow ended up on the original Lose Yer Shoes website (still being hosted by oocities.org), and flipped through hundreds of photos of LYS, Come together... thinking of Bradm... Kevin Rieth. Sad memories but also amazing memories. What a time to have been alive all things considered eh?? Glad this place is still kicking. Thanks for reading! adam

  2. Turns out that playing guitar in a improv focused trio is actually my favourite thing in the world to do. By a very strange turn of events, I've started a project with Chas Guay and Matt Aston called Original Sound Track. I was introduced to Chas years ago in PEI by Punk. Chas was his bass guitar mentor coming up. So Chas now lives in Ottawa and we got something started around Sept 2019. This band is really like 90% pure improv at this point. That being said, I feel like we are tearing a hole in the universe weekly and honestly that is pretty much everything I need from music. Posting hand held jam room recordings weekly here: https://soundcloud.com/user-77130993-304645937/nov-11-jam-3-m Looking forward to maybe playing for people someday

This show was fantastic. Beautiful brand new venue that the Hammer so desperately needs as with time we've lost a lot of spaces. The band was new to me. Super tight, great originals, you can feel the Dead and Allmans influence when they open things up. An engaging and captivating frontman and I was really impressed by their multinstrumentalist keyboard player who also busted out the fiddle and acoustic guitar. Great harmonies all around and a packed enthusiastic crowd. I honestly had almost forgotten what it's like. Grateful.

  6. Hey folks! A few weeks ago I launched Beggars Banquet, a podcast that explores the intersection of food and music. I interview bands and artists to discuss their relationship with food, on and off the road. Warning: this podcast will make you hungry! Episode #4 came out this morning and it features Andrew Barr. We talk about what it’s like growing up with a mom who worked alongside celebrity chef Julia Child, and how that influenced his tastes and cooking abilities. We also discuss making music in The Barr Brothers and Andrew’s role as a go-to-drummer in the tight-knit musical community in Montreal. You can listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever else you listen to your pods. If you enjoy, please rate & review as it helps with the almighty-algorithms. I've got lots more great episodes coming up so I hope you'll subscribe :)

Friends and compatriots! I have finally at long last started a blog/website thingy where I'll be posting travel logs, videos, reviews, my daily ticket stories, and whatever else I can think of. My thanks to Mike and all of you on this website; this is where I started typing, where I started the nerologs and posted my first-ever travel log (from Peru), and generally where my writing bone got flexed. So again, thanks. www.toddmanout.com

  10. White Riot White Riot is a moment in time when music changed the world. When a generation challenged the status quo. It’s Woodstock meets the March on Washington, punk-style. New Release 😧 Rubika Shah | 80 min | 2019 | UK | RATING: PG VIRTUAL CINEMA SCREENINGSVirtual Cinema Screenings start July 9th. Cost to rent = $9.99 (includes tax). Rent it via Hot Docs Cinema: https://boxoffice.hotdocs.ca/websales/pages/info.aspx?evtinfo=127738~fff311b7-cdad-4e14-9ae4-a9905e1b9cb0&epguid=8533b035-0c76-4133-bf01-9b9878c87b37& Britain, late-1970s. Punk is exploding. The country is deeply divided over immigration. The National Front, a far-right and fascist political party, is gaining strength as politicians like Enoch Powell push a xenophobic agenda. Outraged by a racist speech from Eric Clapton, music photographer Red Saunders writes a letter to the music press, calling for rock to be a force against racism. NME, Melody Maker, and Sounds all publish the letter. Flooded with responses, Red discovers many share his views. Teaming up with like-minded creatives Roger Huddle, Kate Webb, Syd Shelton and Australian graphic designer Ruth Gregory, the team bands together to create Rock Against Racism (RAR) and a fanzine, Temporary Hoarding. Speaking directly to the youth, Temporary Hoarding reports stories and issues that the mainstream British media ignores, like immigration, the Catholic side of the Northern Ireland conflict, and the police’s controversial “suspected persons” (sus) powers. They give a voice to the voiceless. The National Front begins to strike back, committing acts of violence against RAR supporters and petrol-bombing their HQ. Despite this, RAR spreads virally across the UK and into Europe, becoming a grassroots youth movement. The Clash, Steel Pulse, Tom Robinson and other top bands of the day jump on board.

  14. Been listening a lot to the Band podcast - the host did a great eulogy for Robbie. https://thebandpodcast.com/ I've read a few books about The Band, including Levon's This Wheel's on Fire: Levon Helm and the Story of the Band.. The Levon & Robbie in-fighting is legendary, and Levon's Book and the Band of Brothers paint radically different stories of the Band. Regardless of the truth, Robbie's songwriting and guitar playing are undeniable. RIP Robbie

An absolute legend. Such an imprint and hands down one of the most melodic and tasteful harmony singers of all time. His biography is one of the most interesting bios I have ever read. I hope he found his peace. Find the cost of freedom buried in the groundMother earth will swallow you, lay your body down

    Golden Feather

What a fun night. Golden Feather is great. I really enjoyed the show - the music is original with a great vibe, but has a aura of familiarity to it that I really enjoyed. Loved the West LA cover, I know there is a good vid floating around of that (on FB I believe). They also did a Ween cover, though I forget the name. I look forward to seeing them again, though perhaps in a warmer setting. The whole set up at Auchmar House was pretty sweet - I loved the domes. Such a great way to present a live show in a setting/weather etc like that. Props to all involved. Due to health issues of my own, I had already been basically social distancing and whatnot for a year or so previous to 2020, so for me this was a really stressful evening. For the first time in over 3 years I was among more than a dozen people at one time, and it wasn't in a hospital/medical setting - it was awesome. Loved seeing, talking and dancing with so many folks at the show I haven't seen in years. Wish I could have spoke with some folks more. Next time. Cheers to c-towns for hosting with a live Phish stream afterwards, fuck its been a long time since I did anything like that and it felt awesome, even though my nerves finally got the best of me eventually.. Very much appreciated. [edit to add] If anyone ends up having an extra for the Casbah show, please keep me in mind. I could use one. Cheers.

  39. Yes I have a vague recollection of this as well. Didn't 'Uncle Ted' end up with his mug on that site as well? I think it was actually a photo from ghost town. By the way Greg do you remember that first come together. We all drove up in your van. Arrived in the dark and was trying to park somewhere in the perimeter. Whichever hippy was navigating you as we backed in ended up getting you wedged between two trees. Lol. That was a great weekend. I think I drove your van on from there to the Gleesons' chalet in Thornbury/Collingwood. More good times. That seems like a lifetime ago.

  40. Didn't Greg start a thread here re: this topic way way back, not long after film release? Shame he hasn't had any luck all these years. I remember being at Greg's house in Saint John a couple days before 'A Head's Tale' was released and he was showing us the film, asking if we knew any of the folks names he had lost/didn't get. This being one of them.
