  1. Bombino is called the African Jimi Hendrix by some critics, but to me he's more like Santana. Really smoking guitarist.

  3. Matt Andersen is one of the people playing the Paquin showcase. That I know for sure.
  4. If you have the ability you REALLY want to go to the Terra Lightfoot show. Not only is her band and album great, there are some surprise SPECIAL GUESTS opening that you will regret missing out on. Not even kookycanooky knows who is playing.
  5. I took my (nearly) seven year old son to see this movie before Christmas and he loved it. I had no problem with him watching it. He's really into Star Wars and Doctor Who, the latter of which can be much scarier than Avatar was.
  6. I thought this place was closed on December 1st and the locks were changed by the police?
  7. Here is my quickie review: http://www.exclaim.ca/musicreviews/latestsub.aspx?csid1=138&csid2=870&fid1=42201
  8. The new bass player was really good. He fit really well with Matt Abts, although he occasionally needed head nods to know when to change timbre. At least it's not like Phil Lesh and Friends where PL's yelling out chord changes to the band mid-jam!
  9. I was in the 2nd row. They had a clock on Warren's amp that said 8:00 when they came on stage.
  10. It was weird to go to Toronto and see half of Port Dover in the front row of the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. Guess I've lived away from that area for too long, because one of the dudes who I've known for 20+ years (Jason 'Byrd' Misener, who went out with my neighbour Haley when I was in highschool) didn't even recognize me. Oh well... 1st set was stronger than the second.
  11. I think the encore would have been much more interesting had it been Metallica's James Hetfield on stage with the Mule and Gordie Johnson sitting on the side of the stage watching
  12. I will be there. I just got offered some free tickets about 30 minutes ago, checked with my wife and I'm good to go
  13. Say it isn't so: http://www.ilxor.com/ILX/ThreadSelectedControllerServlet?boardid=41&threadid=69521#unread I've been buying this thing since 1987, so I really really hope this is not the end!

    Dead Tourdates

Why would they need to play with someone else? I'd be VERY happy if these shows were just them - and didn't sell out. God, if there's one thing I don't miss about Dead shows after 1988 is how insanely cramped they were (except for Europe 90).

I asked my wife to get me a ticket to Buffalo for my birthday next week. If I had more money, it'd be nice to go to Worcester for the two shows before too. That's a nice arena, I've been to a few Worcester Sharks hockey games when down there on business...

Not sure how I feel about going if Jimmy Herring is not taking part. Warren is a great player and singer, but he just doesn't have the right stuff to be playing leads full-time with this band.
  17. I got mine in the mail last night. It's okay but I am underwhelmed by the whole thing. I had never bothered to get these shows through tape-trading because I was told they lagged and listening to the first CD definitely shows that. The Second CD is a little better, a nice Shakedown with a good jam out of it into drums, but nothing outstanding. The footage is cool on the DVD, whoever was filming them was drunk however. Looks like it was all shot on 3/4 inch video or something. The best thing for me is actually the DVD bonus feature "The Vacation Tapes"
  18. That cover is on the Stay Awake album, which is amazing. Bummed I missed that radio show. I wore my Los Lobos hoodie to Dylan last night though!
  19. That was my first time seeing Dylan since 2003 (Darien Lake with the Dead) and I loved it. I am all about the unexpected with Dylan and I loved the new arrangements of songs. His band is really great right now and I had no problems with the sound where I was sitting (sec 123, 10 rows up), especially where the guitar was concerned. Dylan's keyboard could have been louder in the mix, but that might have been on purpose. I was sitting next to Lincoln Alexander and he was digging it. He kept saying "yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah" and at one point said "sing it Bobby D!" while stomping also his cane.
  20. Hmmm... If you went to last night's Dylan show in Hamilton, do you agree with this review? http://www.thespec.com/Entertainment/article/422565

    Dead 2003

I'd gladly sell my Darien discs that I purchased at the show for $10. They sound great but I think I've only listened to it twice since
  22. Just got a miracle ticket today at noon. I'll be there.
  23. I couldn't make it down until the second set had already started due to ride issues but I liked what I saw. 11 years in between Toronto gigs is just too long; I hope they don't take nearly that long again!
  24. Piggy (Denis) was indeed the man. I got to meet him a number of times between 1987 and 2004. Jason Newsted still can't play, so their original bassist Blacky (played on every album up until 1991's Angel Rat) is doing the show. One of Piggy's best friends, Daniel Mongrain, has agreed to play guitar too. He's amazing and one of only 3 guitarists Piggy approved to replace him in the band apparently.
  25. www.heavymtl.com Iron Maiden, Mastodon, Motley Crue, Voivod and about 15 more hard rock/metal bands at Montreal's Parc Jean Drapeau. I'm really looking forward to seeing Voivod once again!
