  1. Can't believe they lost to Barfalo, but what a great pic: You don't see fans like that up against the glass at the ACC in those numbers. Gotta go on the road to get the rowdies out
  2. http://bit.ly/VD18d1 Easy Star All-Stars - Dubber Side Of The Moon A highly desirable set of beatmakers and dub masters are handling the remixes here, but the reasonDubber Side of the Moon works so well could very well be the seven years that have passed since the source material was released. Everyone from dub legend Mad Professor to dubstep upstart Kalbata digs deep into these tracks, as if they picked up the Easy Star All-Stars’ original Pink Floyd tribute, Dub Side of the Moon, back in 2003 and have kept it in the play stack ever since. Dubmatrix might have even gone to see the group live as his opening mix uplifts with the horns and then chills with the bass, reflecting the on-stage sound of Easy Star. Fans of avant-dub will appreciate Adrian Sherwood and his funhouse mirror mix of “Brain Damage,†which recalls the madness of his label On-U Sound during its golden age.The Alchemist turns “Money†into a dubstepping monster while Dreadzone show admirable restraint, giving “Us and Them†a proper touch of wistfulness in a mix that seems to drift in space. Best in show goes to Border Crossing’s “Step It Pon the Rastaman Scene†which is “Any Colour You Like†dubbed into a wobbly nightmare. - David Jeffries mp3@VBR Track List 01. 3. http://bit.ly/10ctvRP Dub Side Of The Moon - Easy Star All-Stars It was one of those really stupid ideas that we can all be grateful someone had the guts to follow through with. Yes, it’s a reggae version of the Pink Floyd classic Dark Side of the Moon, every track drastically reworked and presented in the same order as on the original album. And yes, it works far, far better than you’d have any right to expect. The artists vary from the relatively obscure (Kirsty Rock, Dollarman) to the big-time (Corey Harris, Frankie Paul, the Meditations) and the musical styles range from roots to dancehall to jungle. Every track works well, but highlights include a very fine (and uncredited) jungle mix of “On the Run†and the great singer-deejay combo track “Time,†on which Corey Harris’ chesty baritone singing voice is nicely counterbalanced by Ranking Joe’s speed-rap. There are several bonus dub mixes tacked onto the end of the program, and while none of them is revelatory they don’t detract from the proceedings, either. At the end you realize that you were wrong to even think this was a dumb idea to begin with — dub’s psychedelic mysticism is a perfectly good match for Pink Floyd’s mannered weirdness. Highly recommended. - Rick Anderson mp3@320 Track List 1. Speak To Me/Breathe (In The Air)(3:52) 2. On The Run (3:23) 3. Time (6:58) 4. The Great Gig In The Sky (4:25) 5. Money (6:26) 6. 4. http://bit.ly/YVAw4F Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here (2011 Remaster) Wish You Were Here is a song cycle dedicated to Pink Floyd’s original frontman, Syd Barrett, who’d flamed out years before: two grimly funny songs about the evils of the music business (“By the way, which one’s Pink?â€), and two long, touching ones about the band’s vanished friend. The real star of the show, though, is the production: sparkling, convoluted, designed to sound deeply oh-wow under the influence—and pretty great sober too—with David Gilmour getting lots of space for his most lyrical guitar playing ever. And, though the album is big and ambitious, even bombastic, it somehow dodges being pretentious—the Barrett tributes are honest and heartfelt, beneath all the grand gestures and stereophonic trickery. —Douglas Wolk mp3@320 Track List Disc: 1 1. All being well, I'll be returning to the band in 2014."

  11. http://bit.ly/ZXdrmR Jimi Hendrix – People Hell And Angels This is the upcoming album of previously unreleased material by Jimi Hendrix titled “People, Hell & Angels†which is scheduled to be released in stores on March 5, 2013. Description: “People, Hell & Angels†is a new album of twelve never before released Jimi Hendrix studio recordings. This special album showcases the legendary guitarist working outside of the original Jimi Hendrix Experience trio. Beginning in 1968, Jimi Hendrix grew restless, eager to develop new material with old friends and new ensembles. Outside the view of a massive audience that had established the Experience as rock’s largest grossing concert act and simultaneously placed two of his albums together in the US Top 10 sales chart, Jimi was busy working behind the scenes to craft his next musical statement. mp3@320 Track List 1. 14. Anyone going to catch the Quadrophenia show next Tuesday in Hamilton. Saw the last go around in 1996 and it was fantastic ... but The Ox was still around Gonna see if I can make it last minute. http://bit.ly/VXmSMm The Who - Quadrophenia (Deluxe Edition 2011) After the 1971 album Who’s Next, Pete Townshend returned to the rock-opera genre, so dramatically realised through Tommy, with another ambitious double-album masterpiece. Based around the story of Jimmy – Quadrophenia tells the tale of a young mod and his struggle to come of age in the mid-1960s.The story also takes its influence from the band’s early fans from the original mod era, and its themes of teenage angst and disaffection still resonate strongly today. The project was intended to reflect the four characters of The Who and features some of Townshend’s most inspired, personal song-writing – way ahead of its time in scope and purpose. Quadrophenia is one of the most recognised albums by The Who and is hugely significant in popular culture, influencing many other artists, musicians and film-makers – inspiring the classic 1979 British film by Franc Roddam and the UK mod revival of the 1970s. “This 2011 revisit to The Who’s 1973 Quadrophenia recording is inspired by current and continuing interest in the project,†explains Townshend. “The Who performed a concert version of the piece at the Royal Albert Hall in 2010 for the Teenage Cancer Trust with excellent reviews, and the success of that event led to the prospect of a Who tour in 2012 based on the album. The last such tour was between 1996-1997.†Quadrophenia: The Director’s Cut is the definitive version of the album and a must for any self-respecting fan of The Who and beyond. mp3@320 Track List 01. 15. Was just catching some highlights of the NHL action last night. Ouch ... the loss of Karlsson is a huge one. He has to be one of the most exciting players to watch in the league right now and it's so unfortunate that it looks like this season is now over for him. Truly hope that it's not as serious as it might be and that he recovers well. Would love to see him return to top form again soon.
  16. http://bit.ly/XAB79k Fleetwood Mac - Black Magic Woman: The Best Of While Fleetwood Mac didn’t invent “the British blues,†they were certainly one of the early bands to master the form. This 30-track, double-disc anthology contains everything one would expect from thePeter Green and Jeremy Spencer-fronted blues-rock juggernaut. Of course, this also means that virtually everything here has been issued dozens of times before, but to either the veteran enthusiast looking for one rock-solid comp or the punter just discovering the genius of the Mac in their earliest incarnation, this set will do nicely, especially given the remastered sound (24-bit) and discount pricing. 19. http://bit.ly/XA3TXC The Lumineers - The Lumineers The Lumineers, a folk-rock trio out of Denver, Colorado, have a pretty interesting sound, an Americana mesh of folk, rock, and gospel that is similar in tone to the Waterboys, say, or an alt-folk version of Bob Dylan circa Desire, thanks in no small part to Neyla Pekarek’s inventive cello. And there are some very good tracks on this debut album, including the chamber honky tonk of “Dead Sea,†the delightfully goofy but then ultimately sad and elegant “Submarines,†and “Stubborn Love,†which manages to be bright and chiming while also being haunting and mournful. Not everything here clicks together at that level, but each track is inventive, and when the songwriting and arrangements cross paths perfectly, as they do in the above songs, this is a delightful band.. - Steve Leggett mp3@v0 Track List: 01 – Flowers In Your Hair 02 – Classy Girls 03 – Submarines 04 – Dead Sea 05 – Ho Hey 06 – Slow It Down 07 – Stubborn Love 08 – Big Parade 09 – Charlie Boy 10 – Flapper Girl 11 – Morning Song http://bit.ly/XA3TXC
  20. by request: http://bit.ly/Ve942I Fleetwood Mac - Fleetwood Mac It’s unfair to say that Fleetwood Mac had no pop pretensions prior to the addition of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks to the lineup in 1975. When they were led by Bob Welch they often flirted with pop, even recording the first version of the unabashedly smooth and sappy “Sentimental Lady,†which would later be one of the defining soft rock hits of the late ’70s. Still, there’s no denying that 1975’sFleetwood Mac represents not just the rebirth of the band, but in effect a second debut for the group — the introduction of a band that would dominate the sound of American and British mainstream pop for the next seven years. In fact, in retrospect, it’s rather stunning how thoroughly Buckingham and Nicks, who had previously recorded as a duo and were romantically entangled in the past, overtook the British blues band. As soon as the Californian duo came onboard, Fleetwood Mac turned into a West Coast pop/rock band, transforming the very identity of the band and pushing the band’s other songwriter, keyboardist Christine McVie, to a kindred soft rock sound. It could have all been too mellow if it weren’t for the nervy, restless spirit of Buckingham, whose insistent opener, “Monday Morning,†sets the tone for the rest of the album, as well the next few years of the group’s career. Surging with a pushily melodic chorus and a breezy Californian feel, the song has little to do with anything the Mac had done before this, and it is a positively brilliant slice of pop songwriting, simultaneously urgent and timeless. After that barnstorming opener, Buckingham lies back a bit, contributing only two other songs — a cover ofRichard Curtis’ “Blue Letter,†the second best up-tempo song here, and the closer, “I’m So Afraid†— while the rest of the album is given over to the wily spirits of Nicks and McVie, whose singles “Rhiannon,†“Say You Love Me,†and “Over My Head†deservedly made this into a blockbuster. But a bandmember’s contribution can never be reduced to his own tracks, and Buckingham not only gives the production depth, he motivates the rest of the band, particularly Nicks and McVie, to do great work, not just on the hit singles but the album tracks that give this record depth. It was diverse without being forced, percolating with innovative ideas, all filtered through an accessible yet sophisticated sensibility. While Rumours had more hits and Tusk was an inspired work of mad genius, Fleetwood Mac wrote the blueprint for Californian soft rock of the late ’70s and was the standard the rest were judged by. - Stephen Thomas Erlewine mp3@320 Track List: 1.
