Hey ... Sly Stallone is born again? The Church is the gym of the soul?!?!?! The marketing of "Rocky": The release date for Sylvester Stallone's final installment of the Rocky story -- "Rocky Balboa" comes out Dec. 22 -- is no coincidence. The film is being marketed directly to Christian audiences, and the Christmastime opening is a part of that effort. Church groups have been provided with study guides and special screenings, and Stallone himself has been reaching out to the faith community to peddle his boxer's tale; in a recent teleconference with religious leaders, he admitted his own faith had influenced the Rocky story greatly. "The more I go to church and the more I turn myself over to the process of believing in Jesus and listening to His Word and having Him guide my hand, I feel as though the pressure is off me now," he said. "You need to have the expertise and the guidance of someone else. You cannot train yourself. I feel the same way about Christianity and about what the church is: The church is the gym of the soul." 2. Hey!!! I'm still here, and dammit, I still love the Habs. I know it's like believing in unicorns and leprechauns, but it is true. My hockey card of Guy Lafleur sits with me at my desk at work. I work beside a Habs fan. She's starting to understand that I'm a fan of both teams. Now, if you're talking about the Sens ... different story This Saturday is going to be great. I'm hoping for an exciting game, AND i'll be partying at The Musical Box @ Massey Hall too Best of both worlds.

yup, that was it. We only made it for the second set, but that was worth it in itself!!! They take great care to have impeccable sound quality at their shows.

Really? There may have been some vocal Dawkins supporters in the crowd (juevenile screams from the balcony like at the Grammy awards ) but did you hear more than a couple "pro-Dawkins" questions??? He was in Lynchburg, VA and in "enemy territory" so to speak. To field questions/statements/bullyishness for almost an hour and half is totally commendable, IMHO. He had every right to bite back with trivial, non-sensical, questions like "what if you're wrong?" I thought that he was very respectable and didn't resort to name-calling or belittling comments that weren't called for. Listen to the Liberty College questions and they had "crafted" them well ahead of time in an attempt to "trap" Dawkins. He was able to come back at each one of them with reason and well thought answers that were on the fly. I am not trying to say that Dawkins is an absolute authority when it comes to the topic. However, i do think that he comes to his conclusions in a much more reasoned and scientific manner than do his opponents to the extreme opposite. I hate the "I know you are, but what am I?" or "Yeah, so?" type of debate.
  5. http://oceans.greenpeace.org/en/take-action/e-cards/blame-canada-and-espa-a It's a really funny new animated e-card to promote moratorium on high seas bottom trawling (called "dragging" in Canada). Background: Scientists world wide support a UN moratorium on high seas bottom trawling as a stop gap measure allowing time to do the research needed to ensure sustainable fishing. And thanks in part to thousands of letters from Ocean Defenders, many governments now also support the moratorium. But Canada is trying to block it.

ooh yeah ... that WAS good. I hear ya. I'm not 100% down with everything he says/argues either, but much closer to it than many other people i have heard try to defend their case in such a subject. Do creationists go to the "Evolve" Festival??? or do they go to festivals that just "appear" out of the darkness??
  9. UGH ... Good on Tim Thomas was outstanding in net for Boston. Shit, 46 shots on net and only one goes in??? (and not a great on either). What a performance. Leafs looked amazing in the first period. Too bad they couldn't get anything going on their 6 power plays. Boston is much more of a force to be reckoned with than people give them credit for. McCabe? Well, twisting his ankle and coughing up the puck blew any chance of tying the game. I heard him complain about the ice? Come on. It's the end of the third period.... do you expect it to be perfect?? They were playing in rinks with puddles in the 60s and 70s man! Next game ... Atlanta?

Baj, that's the way I have heard it each time i've asked Rob. Last time was when they played Buffalo at that club that was upstairs on the main drag there ... memory fails me on its name He said it was a member of the BAND and that's why the band just wouldn't sound the same without them. Leave crew at the border . I'll fire him off an email ... however, he is VERY slow at responding, especially when they are on the road. Later . . . Kanada Kev =8)

  12. TYSON NASH http://www2.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/players/Tyson_Nash/ Assets Loves to initiate contact. Holds his own in five-on-five competition and is unafraid of dropping the gloves. Throws opponents off their game with antics. Flaws Does a bit too much trash-talking on the ice and occasionally hurts his team by taking bad penalties. Is extremely injury-prone. Career potential Fourth line agitator.
  13. Leafs send Tellqvist to Phoenix The Toronto Maple Leafs have moved their surplus goalie. Toronto general manager John Ferguson Jr. traded Mikael Tellqvist to the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for forward Tyson Nash and a fourth round draft pick. Nash, 31, has been in the minors this season. He played 50 games for Phoenix last season, notching six assists. His best NHL season was 2000-2001 when he scored eight goals and seven assists for 15 points while piling up 110 penalty minutes. Nash played with Darcy Tucker in junior, winning Memorial Cups with the Kamloops Blazers. The Coyotes are looking for Tellqvist to shore up their inconsistent netminding. Tellqvist played 25 games for the Leafs last season, posting a 10-11-2 record with a 3.13 goals against average and a .895 save percentage. He failed to stick with the Leafs this season after Jean-Sebastien Aubin beat him out for the back-up job behind Andrew Raycroft. Right on .... Are you in the Q&A session? He puts some of those smarmy Jerry Falwell Liberty College students in their place. He has well crafted responses to questions that they think they will "burn" him with. He's very very very good at what he does.

The Musical Box are the most incredible recreation band around. They are fully endorsed, and have been given exclusive rights, by Genesis to perform their material with all the sets, costumes, slides, visual effects that were originally used in the Gabriel-era (up to 1975). They have had Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford and Steve Hackett all sit in with them. http://www.themusicalbox.net/ Truly amazing. Ollie, Timmy, Kookeycanooky, FunkyBeats and Paan all "get it" . Their ticket prices scare many away (Toronto is ridiculously overpriced simply because it's at Massey Hall). Come on out this Saturday if you can. I'm sure there will be some extras floating about that you should be able to get a bit cheaper. We're having a big preshow party at the Library Pub (above the Imperial) on Dundas. Later . . . This Q&A session is really interesting. Dawkins recieves, and responds, to questions in a very intelligent and measured manner.

  19. Great list of docs. I've seen half of those. Looks like I'll keep a few of those titles in the back of my head to be sure to watch sometime soon. The Corporation is fantastic. Loved it. A real eye opener on many levels. I'd also suggest, and i hate to continually bring it up, but check out Russo's America: Freedom To Facism. http://www.freedomtofascism.com/ Neither left, nor right-wing this startling examination of government exposes the systematic erosion of civil liberties in America since 1913. Some may see it as a Michael Moore-ish type of doc, but it's scary. I can get you a copy on CD (as an AVI file if you like). Later . . . Kanada Kev =8)

That'd be Rob Eaton. Great guy. He was one of the tapers with some serious "connections" for Dead tapes in the past. I was lucky enough to have become friends with him via the Section 7 section on Rocknet (Compuserve) back in the early 90s. Was able to get some of the sweetest tapes around back then. He had a great band based in NJ called Border Legion. Best thing you could see in terms of a "Dead" tribute band before DSO, IMHO. Good times. Rob is a talented sound engineer and has worked with many talented people: http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:0bfqxqw5ldhe~T4 Rob has told me that the only reason that they have not hit a Canadian date is that one member of the band would have "issues" at the border. DOn't konw if that means going in, or going back, but it's a bummer Later . . . Kanada Kev =8)

  23. The Band played the Masonic Temple (Concert Hall) in Toronto that year (as did Phish ) I ended up sitting beside Colin Linden and Bruce Cockburn while drinking Upper Canada ales (when they weren't twist-offs ) ... pretty damn cool. Later . . . Kanada Kev =8)
  24. I didn't get to hear it, but I heard it was a dud (other than maybe the Blackie and the Rodeo Kings stuff). Too bad. Looked good on paper. The amazing Rob Bowman did write a piece for it. I had him as a prof at York back in the early 90s ... best fucking course i ever took in my educational years):
