Hey, I know we have some other teachers and educational assistant folks around here (and anyone else can do it too.) This is a really nice project that could be nice to do with kids in classes prior to the holiday break. A friend of my sister in CT is doing this and I thought I'd pass it along: Sharon posted this on her Wall and I think you will be interested. I think it's a great idea: A building has been designated to house the students from Sandy Hook Elementary School. They are in the process of transporting desks, chairs, supplies and so forth to this location. My neighbor is the president of the Newtown PTA and we met tonight discussing what we can do to make these children feel comforted upon their return to school. Please join us in "The Snowflake Project". We are asking your students to make and decorate a snowflake. We will hang them in the hallways at the stark, new building where the Sandy Hook students will be returning. PLEASE NO WORDS! We want just a cheerful, happy (glitter and sparkle) environment for the students entering the new building. Please pass on to any teachers you think may want to participate. When you send your snowflakes, please include a note to tell us where they are from (your school, class, town, etc) to display along with your snowflakes. You can send them to me directly, and I will give them to our PTA. Bonny Marsicano 22 Pine Tree Hill Road Newtown, CT 06470
  2. http://bit.ly/TvXAW4 Chris Robinson Brotherhood - The Magic Door The seven tracks here stem from the same sessions as those on “Big Moon Ritualâ€, and it may be useful to see “The Magic Door†as a kind of second set, opening as it does with a sauntering, good-time take on Hank Ballard’s “Let’s Go, Let’s Go, Let’s Go†in the tradition of “Good Lovin’†or “Promised Landâ€. This time, Neal Casal’s vibrational guitar solos don’t feel quite so prominent, though there is a spectacularly pining one that cuts a swathe through “Appaloosaâ€, a blue-eyed and wasted ballad in the same mould as “Star Or Stone†on the last record. If one of the Brotherhood take the spotlight, it’s probably Adam MacDougall, who appears bent on summoning the ghosts of most every Dead keyboardist he can recall, plus a bunch of even more cosmic Moog practitioners, often in the space of one extended song. It’s most noticeable on “Vibration And Light Suiteâ€, one of those curiously funky songs in the vein of “Eyes Of The Worldâ€, in which MacDougall touches on the styles of both Keith Godchaux and Ned Lagan. The Brotherhood keep pulling and tugging the song into inspired new directions, until it passes through a jam and devolves into musique concrete. The standout, though, is possibly “Someday Past The Sunsetâ€, which channels the same kind of roadhouse blues that Dylan focused on for “Together Through Lifeâ€, then takes it some place notably more menacing and elevated. It all wraps up with “Wheel Don’t Rollâ€, which feels like a mellowed sequel to “Tulsa Yesterdayâ€, the track which opened “Big Moon Ritualâ€. A neat way to wrap up that second set, really: I can’t help thinking the whole bunch of songs would’ve worked better as a big and coherent two CD set, but that’s a small quibble. Wonderful music, and the extraordinary promise of what they must be like live moves ever more sharply into focus. - John Mulvey mp3@v0 Track List 1. Let’s Go Let’s Go Let’s Go (04:55) 2. Someday Past The Sunset (06:20) 3. Appaloosa (05:17) 4. Vibration & Light Suite (13:56) 5. Little Lizzie Mae (06:19) 6. Sorrows Of A Blue Eyed Liar (08:38) 7. 3. http://bit.ly/UaErLB Chris Robinson Brotherhood - Big Moon Ritual With subtle undertones reminiscent of his Black Crowe days, Chris Robinson takes a new turn with his latest project. Comprised of Adam MacDougall (Black Crowes) on keyboard, George Sluppick on drums, Mark Dutton on bass, and Neal Casal on guitar, Chris fronts a solid lineup that dabble in the sounds of yesterday, adding to it a style of their own. Big Moon Ritual, the debut album from the Brotherhood, channels the spirit of the likes of Dwayne Allman and Jerry Garcia. Put together a jam band arrangement and a funky synthesizer and you get a combination all its own. And yet one can relive the sounds that inspired the generations of the Allmans and the Dead through this new material. This project takes on a more soulful and serene sound, as opposed to Chris’ former work with the Black Crowes. Every song is an extended story, a drawn out journey through the progression of instrumentals, with vocal entwined between. The album opens with “Tulsa Yesterday,†which begins with a psychedelic intro and a mellow, carefree melody. The track is laced with the eloquent works of MacDougall on keyboard. The hit track on this is “Rosalee.†With its upbeat rhythm and catchy chorus, this is sure to please any Crowes fan ready to pass the torch and embrace Robinson’s new endeavor. Although unlike most of his prior material, Robinson’s soulful vocals shine through on each track. “Tomorrow Blues†offers up a chance for each artist to show off his talents, from guitar to keyboard solos to the harmonies in the chorus line. The group seems to flow well with one another, a must for any ‘jam band’ style. They seem to play on never missing a step, as if they’re never quite ready to hit that last note. Big Moon Ritual is a unique undertaking for the Black Crowes’ front man. Maybe a little unexpected, maybe a little out of the comfort zone for those ‘Hard to Handle’ fans. Whatever the feeling, the band puts together an excellent mixture of sounds. Robinson’s country flare, mixed with a little blues and soul, offers his fans a new taste of his talents. Something to listen to when you’re ready to mellow out and escape the fast pace of reality for a while. - Don Tice mp3@320 Track List 01. Tulsa Yesterday 02. Rosalee 03. Star Or Stone 04. 5. Looks like a DONE DEAL! http://www.tsn.ca/mlb/story/?id=411823 REPORT: DICKEY AGREES TO EXTENSION WITH BLUE JAYS The Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to a contract extension with National League Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com. The extension, which reportedly is worth $25 million over two years means the trade with his former team, the New York Mets will now be made official after Dickey passes his physical. It is being reported that Dickey is now in Florida in order to undergo his physical. The 38-year-old has one year left on his contract worth $5 million, before the new deal kicks in. The trade which is expected to centre around the right-hander and Toronto's top prospect, catcher Travis d'Arnaud, was contingent upon the Jays signing Dickey to a contract extension within a 72-hour window that was set to expire on Tuesday at 2pm et. There has yet to be confirmation on the players involved besides Dickey, but according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the deal between the two clubs could see seven players switch teams, with Dickey, catcher Josh Thole and a prospect heading to Toronto for d'Arnaud, pitching prospect Noah Syndergaard, recently acquired catcher John Buck and another prospect. He led the National league in strikeouts with 230 last season and ranked second with an ERA of 2.73. In parts of 10 major league seasons, Dickey has a career ERA of 3.98. If Dickey is traded, he would be only the fourth reigning Cy Young winner in history to start the following season with a new team, joining David Cone (1995), Pedro Martinez (1998) and Roger Clemens (1999).
  6. Fuck Yeah! http://www.tsn.ca/mlb/story/?id=411750 REPORT: JAYS HAVE AGREEMENT IN PRINCIPLE FOR METS' DICKEY After prolonged negotiations, it appears the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets have an agreement in principle on a deal involving reigning National League CY Young winner R.A. Dickey, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com. The deal remains contingent on the Jays' ability to sign Dickey to an extension within a 72-hour negotiating window which expires Tuesday at 2pm et. There has yet to be confirmation on the players involved besides Dickey, but according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the deal between the two clubs could see seven players switch teams, with Dickey, catcher Josh Thole and a prospect heading to Toronto for catching prospect Travis d'Arnaud, pitching prospect Noah Syndergaard, recently acquired catcher John Buck and another prospect. Sherman stated on his Twitter account on Saturday evening that while the deal is still very much alive, that it could take a day or two before being finalized. The 38-year-old Dickey has one more year on his contract with the Mets worth $5 million.

  8. http://bit.ly/ZlnAbO Eric Clapton - Slowhand (Deluxe Edition 2012) After the guest-star-drenched No Reason to Cry failed to make much of an impact commercially, Eric Clapton returned to using his own band for Slowhand. The difference is substantial — where No Reason to Cry struggled hard to find the right tone, Slowhand opens with the relaxed, bluesy shuffle of J.J. Cale’s “Cocaine†and sustains it throughout the course of the album. Alternating between straight blues (“Mean Old Friscoâ€), country (“Lay Down Sallyâ€), mainstream rock (“Cocaine,†“The Coreâ€), and pop (“Wonderful Tonightâ€), Slowhand doesn’t sound schizophrenic because of the band’s grasp of the material. This is laid-back virtuosity — although Clapton and his band are never flashy, their playing is masterful and assured. That assurance and the album’s eclectic material make Slowhand rank with 461 Ocean Boulevard as Eric Clapton’s best albums. - Stephen Thomas Erlewine The Deluxe Edition features four Slowhand session outtakes (three of them previously unreleased) “Looking At The Rainâ€, “Albertaâ€, “Greyhound Bus†and “Stars, Strays And Ashtraysâ€. A week before the Slowhand sessions commenced, the band performed at London’s Hammersmith Odeon. The Deluxe Edition features 9 tracks from the Hammersmith Odeon concert. Songs featured at the Hammersmith Odeon show include “Tell The Truthâ€, “Knocking On Heaven’s Doorâ€,â€Can’t Find My Way Homeâ€, “Stormy Mondayâ€, “Badgeâ€, “I Shot The Sheriff†and “Laylaâ€. mp3@v0 Tracklist 1. 19. Some of my friends that I had gone to a lot of Dead/Jerry shows with were trying to get me into Phish during the Summer 1991. Slowly listened to some shows on tape more and more (Giant Country Horn shows really made me listen more).Took a while for me to make the effort to go to a show. Passed on the crazy Roller Rink show http://phish.net/setlists/?d=1991-09-28 in Buffalo and regret it. But it wasn't long after they were announced to play a small club in Toronto. I remember the show being engaging and mesmerizing from the get go. And the trampolines ... whoa! I recall hanging back at the bar with a couple of really nice dudes from Rochester.
