  1. J pod? I wonder if Douglas Copeland knows about this. Seriously though, that is good news. Thanks for posting this, StoneMtn.
  2. So in about two hours from now I´m going to throw my life into the hands of God. I´m going to try an extreme sport of which I had never heard until yesterday. Volcano boarding. I am going to climb up to the top of Cerro Negro, the youngest and most active volcano in Nicaragua. I´m going to don a safety jump suit, goggles and protective gloves, andf climb on a board consisting of a strip of laminate applied to a thin plank of wood. Then I´n going to board down the side of the volcano. Speeds reach up to 70 km/hour. Those of you who know me know that this is not the sort of thing I usually go in for. If I survive I will post back here in the next day or so and let you know how it went. Wish me luck!

    BEER!!

Most of the beers in Guatemala are weak tasting and really not worth it. I´m glad I found Moza though. It´s the only one worth drinking. Still, I miss Mexican beer. And of all the Mexican beers that I miss, I miss Negra Modelo the best. Dark and tasty, worth drinking even in Canada, if you can find it.

  6. You can get all the genuine hot sauces you want, along with anything else Mexican from dried chillies poblanos to homemade tortillas at a little tienda next to the Salvadoran restaurant La Cabaña, at 848 Merivale Rd. SnarfmasterC introduced me to this excellent papuseria last summer. The restaurant is great, serving genuine Salvadoran food, and the little food shop attached is a fantastic resource for folks who want to cook the real thing at home for themselves.
  7. San Cristobal de las Casas, in Chiapas state in the south of Mexico has great, great food. Among the local specialties are little tasty treats called chalupas. While not quite tacos, they are close enough to be included in this thread. I had my first taste of pork in 19 years last night to try them. I was so hungry after an 80km cycling tour through the mountains, and they just looked sooo good. Turns out they tasted even better than they looked. Crispy fried tortillas topped with lettuce, sweet potato, carrot, corn, shredded beats, white Mexican cheese and pork with a delicious spicy salsa poured over it all. And only five pesos (45 cents Canadian, more or less) each! I started off with three and went back for a couple more. I won´t be able to post my own picks until I get back home but I found a few online that look a little like the ones I had yesterday.
