  1. I suppose I could wake up at 4am to go watch this for a few hours and then go to work but I won't. I'll be boring, choose sleep instead and then get woken up by my own personal alarm clock, or my cat. Oh, a similar type of thing in Toronto...24 Hours Berlin - A Day in the Life: Part 1: http://www.goethe.de/ins/ca/tor/ver/en8718498v.htm Part 2: http://www.goethe.de/ins/ca/tor/ver/en8714859v.htm
  2. Mr. Slippery, you going to this show: http://www.sonycentre.ca/Events/Event-Detail.aspx?evtID=687 I've never heard of The Sony Centre...was it named something else before? These bands are playing Montreal too on Good Friday.
  3. No I didn't go yet! I'd love to own this, rent a big room somewhere for 24 hours and project it on a wall. I'd have beds and comfy chairs available too.
  4. Did you get tickets for the Toronto show? Public onsale was this morning. I only got tickets for Montreal because this tour is during Bluesfest and I am still hoping they will play in Ottawa as well. So I got 2 GA tickets for Montreal but the GA tickets are ticketless; so we don't get tickets and we get in the venue only with the credit card used to purchase the tickets and ID of the credit card owner. No option of tickets by mail etc for GA tickets. Stupid. What if for some reason I can't go to the show. I can't sell my tickets. More and more shows are like this now. Québec City and Toronto were both like that as well (for the best seats in the house). So I didn't take a chance buying there not knowing the Bluesfest lineup yet. Anyway, Wednesday July 11th, hurry up! And bring on an Ottawa date too!
  5. hey ladies...today's the day! Women propose to their men According to an old Irish legend, or possibly history, St Bridget struck a deal with St Patrick to allow women to propose to men – and not just the other way around – every 4 years. This is believed to have been introduced to balance the traditional roles of men and women in a similar way to how Leap Day balances the calendar. In some places, Leap Day has been known as “Bachelors’ Day†for the same reason. A man was expected to pay a penalty, such as a gown or money, if he refused a marriage proposal from a woman on Leap Day. In many European countries, especially in the upper classes of society, tradition dictates that any man who refuses a woman's proposal on February 29 has to buy her 12 pairs of gloves. The intention is that the woman can wear the gloves to hide the embarrassment of not having an engagement ring. During the middle ages there were laws governing this tradition.
  6. And pancakes after! Happy Mardi Gras y'all! Listening to this New Orleans radio station. It's a fav of mine. http://www.wwoz.org/
  7. Saw this band a few times many years ago. I saw an ad which at first looked like tickets were available for $7.50 but it's actually $7.50 off the regular ticket price. I kinda felt bad at first, thinking the shows were not selling so well. BEER!!

Here's a reason to cheer. Today, Beau's All Natural Brewing Co. of nearby Vankleek Hill pops the cork on two new "WinterBrewed" collaborations with Ottawa's own Bridgehead coffee. Starting at 10 a.m., 1,000 bottles each of WinterBrewed Coffee-Amber, a lager made with Guatemalan organic fair trade coffee, and Collabrrrewator Coffee- Infused Doppelbock, a strong beer brewed with a blend of three organic fair-trade coffees, will be available at the brewery. Don't want to make the hourlong drive to the brewery? Attend a launch party at the Bridgehead on Sparks Street, Saturday, Feb. 18, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Both of the new beers will be on tap and you'll be able to sign up for home delivery directly from the brewery, all while listening to live music and nibbling on food that will be available to purchase. - WinterBrewed will be $7.85 and Collabrrrewator $9.85 for a 600-mL bottle.
  9. Even more exciting!!!: "The MAIDEN ENGLAND WORLD TOUR will closely mirror, in terms of production and content, the original 1988 concert video of the same name, shot on the “Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son Tourâ€. That tour was the first time I saw them! And Alice Cooper will be opening: "Iron Maiden are delighted to announce that the extraordinary and legendary Alice Cooper will be their Very Special Guest on all shows up to July 21. After that date, Special Guest will be Coheed and Cambria, the inspiring, cutting edge band from New York."
  10. Oh my oh my oh my!!! Hmmm...another Bluesfest appearance perhaps? I wanted this for my birthday but it's a bit pricey: http://www.bruceair.co.uk/ So I got the Maiden Flight 666 photo documentary book. Nice coffee table book!

  12. One of my favourite movies, Big Night , is on TVO tonight at 8:30pm. Make a night of it and cook an Italian meal too, minus the wine I suppose! We watched The Help and Moneyball last night. I recommend both. They're available on Rogers On Demand right now.
  13. Here's the movie at 12:04pm: Not sure how to insert a video in this box. There doesn't seem to be an option for that although I know I did it once.

  15. You have a fireplace? Nice! I don't have one so can't help you with this, but this might help you? http://www.ehow.com/how_4801634_clean-bricks-fireplace.html
  16. Yep...way too much food for us! I sure hope tomorrow's game is more satisfying to Ollie than the Sens game was tonight. Oof!
  17. I was just gonna post all that but you beat me to it. Nice prices indeed by today's standards. I'll be there if I get good tickets! Disappointed by reserved seating on the floor though.
  18. Yeah I was hoping they'd do Bluesfest this year. That would have been great! This should not be too overpriced...not like all the bigs acts who have been to SP lately. I figure it might be GA on the floor, I hope.
  19. OH yeah, Resin Scraper. I forgot about his band! Don't you have an LP of theirs? We should listen to it tonight.
  20. this was in the news today: Thu Jan 19, 05:29 PM Ottawa butcher isn't honouring thousands of coupons ctvottawa.ca Aubrey's Meats said they won't have the cash flow to handle the amount of coupons until May. One Ottawa butcher shop has stopped honouring online coupons because they don't have the cash to supply thousands of customers with discount meat. A sign on the door of Aubrey's Meats in the Byward Market said about 10,000 coupons from sites like Groupon and Dealfind won't be honoured until May so the store can get back to "quality and service." John Thurston said he bought $200 worth of meats for $89 but now can't use it. "They stated there were blackout periods when you couldn't use it around the holidays," he said. "I understood that, but to say a whole four month period when you can't use the card, that's not what I thought I was getting when I bought the card." Aubrey's former owner passed away in October, with staff saying they‘re currently in between owners. They said they're temporarily not honouring coupons because they don't have the cash flow to handle hundreds of thousands of dollars of meat at a discount. "They've lost their owner and I have sympathy for them, but my feeling is they should have planned their fiscal matters a little better," Thurston said. Other local businesses said they've benefitted from offering the online deals. "We just kept watching it climbing and climbing and climbing," said Michael Blackie of Le Café, whose Sunday brunch is typically booked solid from their offer. "We ended up selling 2,860 coupons." For those Aubrey's couponers who don't want to wait until May, the websites that offered the deals are offering a full refund. Other customers said they were going to take their business elsewhere. "The meat is great, it tastes fantastic, but it's obviously disappointing," said Rob Lussier. "I have four kids, so guess we'll just go to Wal-Mart to get some meat." A similar situation happened in Toronto last year, when a butcher stopped allowing coupons to be redeemed on Saturdays because of the demand. With a report from CTV Ottawa's Claudia Cautillo
  21. oh wow. I hope this works out. Now that we have a record player again, we need to pay him a visit this weekend. Did you get this by e-mail? Or Facebook? Does he have a Facebook page? He should...might help business.
  22. I forget how much credit we have left. But we don't have a credit card with credit on it though; we just have the printed coupon with a cash receipt stapled to it showing our remaining balance. We might have something around $120 left. I wonder if the coupon company reimburses us if Aubrey's closes and the full amount of coupon can't be honoured. Ah well, we probably made our money back anyhow. Let's hope Aubrey's survives. I don't like seeing small businesses die.
  23. My nieces went there on Boxing Day and really liked it...although is was overwhelming at first for them since there's a lot to do in there and they didn't know where to start! I wasn't there. Does the 7 year old like the Toronto Blue Jays?: Blue Jays Autograph Session Sun, 8 January, 13:30 – 15:00 St-Laurent Shopping Centre - Centre Court Come meet Ricky Romero, Casey Janssen, Brett Lawrie and JP Arencibia from the Toronto Blue Jays I have no idea if these above players are the popular ones. Are any of the Blue Jays popular?!
  24. Yeah, what a perfect way to spend NYE...in my hometown, in a small intimate venue, surrounded by familiar faces, watching a terrific band. Yep, just about perfect. Now if only I would have known that there was some napping going on in the bedroom at the suite, I might have been able to join in and stay past 5:30am! I needed quiet time; left and passed out as soon as I got home. How do you all do it?! Thanks nero and all involved in organizing this! Oh, on Monday night, I was a bit stressed out, having to go to bed early for work the next day...well, goodbye sleep, "Maneater" playing in my head kept me up most of the night, and played on most of the next day! Argh!
