  2. When you think about it, that's a hell of a lot of soul to be released back into the atmosphere. hmmmm...
  3. The world definitely just got a lot less funky. 73 is pretty impressive though. Christmas of all days.
  4. At least it's not your pants and bed as per usual.
  5. If it was a regular day, yeah. Expenses for a new years show go way up. Bands need more money, staff gets more money, (who really wants to work new years.) We're putting a ton of food out, Jager shots and champagne. Party favours, and we want to put up some cool decorations this year, aside from paper streamers, etc.... I think people will be satisified in what they get for what they paid.
  6. Godfather, where have all the kids gone??
  7. Looking at the dude's past movies, I fear another lame hollywood fluff movie, heavy on effects low on story, acting. # Transformers (2007) (post-production) # The Island (2005) # The Lionel Richie Collection (2003) (V) (video "Do It to Me") # Bad Boys II (2003) ... aka Good Cops: Bad Boys II (Malaysia: English title) # Pearl Harbor (2001) ... aka Pearl Harbour (UK: promotional title) # Armageddon (1998) # The Rock (1996) # Bad Boys (1995) # Shadows and Light: From a Different View (1992) (V) # Great White: My...My...My... 8. Yeahahahahaha. Pinned status has arrived. Now wees got a par-teh.
  9. Sweet, spiritual, meditative, intricately played Indian music anyone?
  10. It's the 10th. The Golden Dogs are no doubt a killer live band, but I would seriously consider what you are missing by missing this show.
  11. Good seeing you last night Kev-O. J-B's is worth a shot. They are really good at what they do, though not a sound for everybody's tastes. Definitely a show highlight me and many Hamiltonians this past summer.

    Row Paisley Row

Thank the good Lord this bro is still rockin in the free world. Tonight he's going to Kensington Market for the winter solstice/paisley b-day party they are throwing for him there, if anyone wants to see him in action, do it. I'm thinking about it. Have a good one Jamie. Jerry loves you.
  13. On a lighter note. Grateful Dave has a funny story about getting Miracled for a Dead show at Deer Creek by someone throwing a hackey sack over the wall around the stands from the inside and randomly hitting dave in the head, who was walking around on the outside looking for a ticket. He was fortunate enough to inspect the Hackey and found a ticket rolled up inside.
  14. I saw the dead there a couple times. great venue for the area in the summer. Loads of trailer park folk living in the perimeter. Last dead show there, the gates got crashed the first night. the cops sent the rotwiellers on the crowd, there was a death threat on jerry's life so the lawn lights were kept on in search of snipers. And I think a female cop was killed or badly injured from the bum-rush. They subsequently cancelled the 2nd night. Possibly one of my sadest dead experiences ever.
  15. Is there any hippies on this board today?
  16. Geez!!! I just read this. I hope this sorts him out at least.
  17. Saturday, December 30th: PJC presents NEERAJ PREM'S RAGAFFAIRE Traditional Raga's. Early show/8pm. $12 http://ragamusicschool.com/ragaffaire.htm Stick around. A PJC late show will feature DJ sets by... Stone's Throw Records'' and Hamilton's own KOUSHIK Jon Sikich Solid Oak. Cover is $5. http://www.stonesthrow.com/koushik/ Koushik specializes in making that hazy, hip-hop-based downbeat sh*t that you could easily compare to contemporaries such as Four Tet (who released Koushik's first single on his Text label), RJD2, and DJ Shadow. What sets Koushik apart from the others is a beautiful '60s psych-pop element that tends to pervade throughout. It shows itself in the spacious panned strings, acoustic guitars, and harpsichords that fall in and out of each other; and the beats have a harder regimented classic true school hip-hop sound, that Fourtet and Prefuse tend to stray away from. But what I truly love about this record is Koushik's voice. His singing is soft and mixed way down in the center of the track, sounding like the voice choirs you'd hear on one of those old Percy Faith or 101 Guitars from the late-'60s. If you're a fan of any of the aforementioned artists, you need this record. – OTHER MUSIC, NYC www.othermusic.com RAGAFFAIRE Neeraj Prem's Ragaffaire is a performance group that harnesses the classical tradition of Indian music while penetrating their sounds into this modern day and age. Founded by virtuoso sitarist Neeraj Prem, the ensemble is a potent blend of highly accomplished musicians from a myriad of cultural backgrounds. What started as a quest to render the Indian Raags and Taalas in complex and simple ways, has developed into a musical language of union between cultures. Initially, the group was a collection of musicians focusing on the heart of Indian heritage, but as their music grew, so too did the people who wanted to play with them. Karthik Ramalingam plays the Indian bamboo flute with Ragaffaire. He was trained by Pt. Janardhan, a disciple of Pt. Ravi Shankar. He says of the group's leader Neeraj Prem, "He is extremely open-minded, fearless, and treats all fellow musicians with equal respect." It is this openness and fearlessness that has invited new sounds to enter the sphere of Ragaffaire and carry it to where it is today. Now the ensemble includes musicians of other strongly rooted backgrounds such as Africa, Afghanistan, Iran, along with integrating styles like jazz and hip hop. As Ragaffaire travels through North America and abroad sharing their music, they have been attracting the attention of other high profile musicians who want to be part of their fusing musical conversations that are erupting in dynamic mystical experiences of musical alchemy. It is 'World Jazz Fusion' at its best, as each performance by Ragaffaire stirs up a musical conversation between the hearts of multiple backgrounds. It is a journey into the mythology of all our cultural roots, calling us to experience the spiritual union of where we came from. The mystical Indian sounds blend with the African beats, accompanied by jazz compositions and hip hop rhythmic treats. All geographic barriers are dissolved, and a new sense of Indian music is felt, as it no longer seems to come from a distant and far away land Instead it is right where you are, intertwining with your roots, and melting the barriers to your heart. www.pepperjackcafe.com Downtown Hamilton 38 King William St. (905)525-6666
  18. PJC presents The Junior Boys With guests: Laura Barrett: www.myspace.com/laurabarrett and ablockparentcommunity www.ablockparentcommunity.ca www.myspace.com/ablockparentcommunity and Gary Buttrum as guest selector. Tuesday, December 26th/Boxing Day Adv Tix: $10, $12 Day of show. Tickets available at Pepper Jack's and Dr. Disc Doors open at 9pm, 19+ www.pepperjackcafe.com 38 King William St. (Between James and Hughson) Hamilton (905)525-6666 www.myspace.com/juniorboys www.juniorboys.net Before there was Clap Your Tapes And Say Art Brut, there was Junior Boys: the proto-blog success story. Starting with a pair of mysterious twelves of smart, crisp electro-hooks, the releases were shrouded in abstract imagery and classic graphic design which hearkened back to the heydays of Factory, Mute and Some Bizzare. The music that poured forth was inspired by the past, present and future all. Last Exit, the album that followed, answered the promise, distilling the last twenty five years of electronic pop music into one potent potable. What followed was worldwide acclaim and live performances, including a marathon tour of North America with Caribou and The Russian Futurists that prevailed over heat stroke, jellyfish stings, speeding tickets, abandoned vehicles, vigilant customs agents and close encounters with quicksand & fuel pumps to deliver a series of uplifting shows that made the travellers forget their woes. Today, Junior Boys aren't so much a myth as a revelation. The Canadian-based duo have emerged with a pop statement that is easily one of best albums of the year. So This Is Goodbye is a work that exhibits a confident mix of focus, clarity and ambition. From the upbeat double A-side single "In The Morning"/"The Equalizer" (the former being a collaboration with tour mate, Andi Toma from Mouse On Mars), to the somber triptych that closes the album which touches such kindred spirits as Sylvian, Ferry and, yes Sinatra (as with their cover of the ol' blue-eyes classic, "When No One Cares). Junior Boys manage to tease soul and longing out of their machines in a way that few have dared try.
