  1. Unfortunately since Neil Young is not on the bill I am not making an attempt to make it to NYC to see this tribute concert. That would all change if Neil was on the bill, alas he's not. Instead I just got tickets to the 2011 Juno Awards becasue Neil Young is up for the 2011 Allan Waters Humanitarian Award and the Toronto Star is reporting that he'll be at the ACC on March 27th. Neil is also up for Artist of the Year and his album 'Le Noise' is up for Adult Alternative Album of the Year. Peace, Tim
  2. I just picked up tickets for the 2011 Juno Awards in the hopes that Neil Young shows up to accept 2011 Allan Waters Humanitarian Award. The Toronto Star is reporting that Neil has pledged to come and accept the award so I had to get tickets on the on sale date. Even if Neil does not show up at least I will be able to see Arcade Fire perform for the first time as well as Broken Social Scene who I have enjoyed for years. The last time I went to the Juno Awards was a decade earlier in Hamilton in 2001. I went then to see Bruce Cockburn inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. David Suzuki and Gordon Lightfoot did presented the award and Cockburn's acceptance speech was profound as is the artist. Terri Clark & Jann Arden performed "Wondering Where the Lions Are," Sarah Harmer "Waiting for a Miracle" and live via satellite the Barenaked Ladies did their version of "Lovers in a Dangerous Time." Other than the Guess Who the rest of the performances were not my cup of tea and Nelly Furtado was annoying in her four wins where she did the same speech four times. Rick Mercer was the host and I enjoyed that. Neil is also up for Artist of the Year and his album 'Le Noise' is up for Adult Alternative Album of the Year, so I'm also hoping he peforms, if he shows up. Peace, Tim
  3. I can't wait to see Jackson Browne solo. I have seen Browne five times, though never solo acoustic. Last year I saw Browne with his old side mate David Lindley and it was great to hear some of his classic songs with the colour that Lindley brought to the show. Though I have been listening to Browne's Solo Acoustic Vol 1 & 2 albums a lot in recent years and I have longed to see him on the stage all by himself. Peace, Tim
  4. I could see Coachella have in their contract with Arcade Fire state that they do not perform any other of the major festivals in the USA this year. Or something along those lines. Peace, Tim
  5. That's not true. The headliners at bonnaroo on the What Stage play half to three quarters of their set with no other acts on stage. There is just sometimes a bit of overlap from the Which Stage or some tents acts ending their sets while the headliner has already started. I love U2 and I hope they are there. Peace, Tim
  6. I was hoping to see Arcade Fire at bonnaroo this year and now that they are headlining at Coachella it does not look good. You never know, but the odds have been diminished. Peace, Tim
  7. Here's the setlist, I'll write more tomorrow at some point. I'll say this though, it was a great night seeing the Jayhawks together again. 8. I'm so excited for the return of the mighty Jayhawks. Not only today will we be seeing the Jayhawks first concert of 2011, but 'Hollywood Town Hall' and 'Tomorrow the Green Grass' are out today remastered with bonus tracks. I don't care what they play tonight. All just seems right in the Americana/No Depression/Alt-Country Rock world today. Peace, Tim PS Toronto local Kirsten Jones will be opening with Bob Egan in her band.
  9. RUFUS WAINWRIGHT TEDDY THOMPSON MASSEY HALL SATURDAY DECEMBER 4, 2010 I'm so excited for this gig. I've been calling it the 'Second Generation Tour' for obvious reasons. I love it when an artist performs an album front to back and that is exactly how tomorrow night is going to go down. Rufus will perform his latest album 'All Days are Nights: Songs for Lulu' in the first set with no clapping or cheering. I feel like dressing up with some flare tomorrow night, I guess Rufus brings that out in me. This will be my first time seeing Rufus headline. I saw him with his sister Martha open for Roxy Music at the ACC back in 2001. And last year I saw Rufus again with his sis as well his now late mom and aunt, Kate and Anna McGarrigle perform at Pete Seeger's 90th birhday concert at MSG. Rufus and his family played some of the greatest performances I had ever seen at Seeger's birthday. First,"The Water is Wide" with Emmylou Harris and Teddy Thompson, then they brought me to tears with Bruce Cockburn in their rendition of "Dink's Song," and finally not including the finale "Michael Row the Boat Ashore" with Tony Trischa, Jacob Silver, Casey Driese, Tim Robbins and his son Miles. Kate said to Rufus and Martha before they sang "Dink's Song," "Sing good for Pete's birthday" and Rufus replied "Yes Mom." Tomorrow night he'll be covering one of his mom's songs as well as he will likely perform the Leonard Cohen classic "Hallelujah" with Teddy. I hope to see all fans of operatic pop there tomorrow night. Peace, Tim

Rufus Wainwright 'All Days are Nights: Songs for Lulu'
  11. Tickets just went onsale for the Jayhawks at 10 this morning. I hope every Americana/alt-country rock fan on this board finds a way to make it to this gig. Peace, Tim
  12. I feel the Jayhawks with Mark Olson and Gary Louris together are the best Americana group of the past 30 years. Wilco, if they continued on as an Americana group could have had that accolade from me, if they did not move on to a whole different genre of music. Peace, Tim
  13. THE JAYHAWKS ANNOUNCE NEW SHOWS IN FIVE CITIES jayhawksofficial.com The band is set to play five major cities in January, 2011. Chicago, Minneapolis, New York, Philadelphia and Toronto Pre-sale starts Nov 30th I Pre-sale password is BLUE
  14. I have to agree with that. I don't mind seeing Widespread Panic once in a while but twice at one bonnaroo hurts the festival big time. And when they close the festival on the Sunday the crowd is half gone before they're half finished. Peace, Tim
  15. That's interesting since I have loved every bonnaroo lineup from start all the way through. Definitely some years I have enjoyed more than others. But to me they have always been solid, from 2002 to 2010. So I guess when you refer to "us" I must fall under "them" then. BTW It was sweet to hear the Flaming Lips perform 'Dark Side of the Moon' front to back late night at the Which Stage this past year. Peace, Tim PS I can't believe the presale is already soldout!
  16. bonnaroo 2011 just went onsale. I got my tickets for the tenth anniversary of the bonnaroo music & arts festival. Who else is going this year? The line up for bonnaroo 2011 should be great being the tenth anniversary. Peace, Tim
  17. Hey edger, It's hard to say whether or not the Jayhawks will sellout or not at the Phoenix. The last time the Jayhawks played Toronto was early 2004 at the Phoenix and it definitely did not sellout early if at all. The band has not played more than a handful of gigs in their hometown of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Spain over the past several years. So the question is has the 2009 release of a greatest hits package and the 2010 re-release of their first album originally released in 1986 referred to as 'the Bunkhouse Album' brought in new fans and created enough of a stir with old fans to sellout the Phoenix? I hope so as I believe the Jayhawks with Mark Olson back under the Jayhawks wing is a group that is on par with Wilco when it comes to their earlier Americana releases. Also don't forget that the Jayhawks first two releases on the American label 'Hollywood Town Hall' and 'Tomorrow the Green Grass' will be released on the same day as the Phoenix gig. I will be buying my tickets the day they go onsale. Peace, Tim
