  1. Shocked and saddened. Bradm was one of the friendliest and and most welcoming people I've been blessed to have met. He introduced me to a ton of new people and to a ton of new music. And he was happy to do it. It was a big part of who he was and what he did. He will be dearly missed. Condolences to his family and friends.

  2. To be honest, at this point, I think Reebok ( at least the folks in Montreal) are simply wondering if there's a way we can work together to one another's benefit. They want to highlight their brand and I want to sell books.

Bouche by all means PM me. Doesn't matter if the idea is well-formed or half-baked :content:

  3. Thanks for the suggestions folks.

Unfortunately, Yours Truly, I don't suspect Reebok is much into bicycle design since they simply licence the CCM name to Canadian Tire. I may well take take up your suggestion with them however.

Kooky: I haven't yet got any books to Sean, but will. Thanks for the courier offer. (James is actually my son - we just both happen to share a great liking for Dan & the Regrets.)

rustle: I will be in touch.

Thanks for the kinds words and excellent suggestions Phishtaper. I will certainly speak to them about the coupon/code idea. It's a good one.

  4. Help. I need some advice.

A year ago when I published the book on CCM I contacted Reebok (they own the rights to the name) to see if they'd be willing to help promote it.

    I heard nothing.

Then yesterday I get this note from one of their matketing people wondering what I had in mind.

Funny thing is I didn't have anything in mind.

Now I'm wondering how I should respond.

Does anyone have a great marketing idea/concept that I can pitch to them? Or should I just leave it open and request a meeting to discuss it?

Not sure what to do, but I know it's an opportunity I don't really want to blow.

  5. but hey there's snow on the ground where I live (Perth, ON).

Hoping if you've got a cycling enthusiast, hockey fanatic or history buff on your list this year, you'll consider giving them the CCM story (or hell put it on your own list).

Bikes in summer and skates in winter, few companies dominated the Canadian landscape the way CCM once did. Tells how it all began (and how it all ended).

    CCM Story

Thanks for thinking about it. Gotta go shovel...

  6. I did indeed. Tried a couple of times on kijiji, but was too late on both occasions. Come around six I decided to visit the Centrepointe Theatre website (which I had done earlier to no avail) and bingo! scored two orchestra seats. They must release these a couple of hours before the show. Loved it. Prine is a legend and so he should be.

  7. Thanks, Dave. As you probably know, nationally Chapters will not deal directly with an author, only a publishing or distribution company that already has an account with them. That was why I wondered if the local outlets had the autonomy to stock what they wanted or had to go through head office for everything. Based on what you've said, I'll certainly contact the Ottawa stores since, in part, it's a fundraiser for an Ottawa organization.

  8. Velvet: you can order a copy online here or you can mail a cheque to the address listed at that same link. By the end of the week, it should also be listed on Amazon.

If you prefer to have a book in hand before shelling out your hard-earned cash, the Ottawa chapter of Bicycles For Humanity has copies for sale and will have a booth at the upcoming Ottawa Bicycle Festival (June 4) and also at Westfest on June 11.

Hope that helps. I think this post has enough links to qualify me for the bradm award of the day.

  9. I don't see anywhere to do that, AD. Mind you I haven't got the foggiest notion what I'm looking for.

Problem is I've had Microsoft Word on my computer all along and it worked fine. Then I decided to load Office, but didn't like what it did to my Word documents and every time I tried to open one of them I was now being asked for a Product Key which I didn't know. So I uninstalled Office only to discover I had also lost Word and all my Word documents have been converted to something that I can't open. Maybe if I do as Deeps says, it will work. Thanks for the help guys. You too Davey boy.

  10. Thanks Todd, it's been a long time coming.

I think many of us have a CCM memory. For my brother it was a bike like the one Kev has there. For me it was my first pair of Tacks.

Larry, damn right I'll make certain you get some books my friend.

  11. Hope you'll all excuse a moment of obvious self-promotion.

This spring (May) I will be publishing a book entitled Canada Cycle & Motor: The CCM Story. It's a history of the company that made bicycles, automobiles and eventually sports equipment.

In anticipation of the book, I've just launched a website www.vintageccm.com. Not much going on over there at the moment, but I hope to update frequently.

Please pop on over and encourage anyone interested in Canadian history to do the same. Would love to see you.

Thanks for the moment. Have a great 2011 everyone!

  12. Good show.

I never liked CSN first time around and nothing they did Wednesday night changed that. Mind you, judging from the response of the crowd, I was in an obvious minority. Also, the sound in the ACC is brutal for a band that depends on three-part harmony, so at times it was hard to tell if the problem was theirs or the venue's.

Tom was in fine form. Put on a great show...not Neil Young great, but great nonetheless. We listened to Mojo going up in the car, so I had an idea of what to expect come that part of the set. I enjoyed it more than the hits. From the get-go the Heartbreakers have been a one of the tightest rock outfits around. The presence of Benmount Tench and Mike Campbell continue to ensure that and the new material really gives them an opportunity to strut their stuff.

Was it worth the price? Tough call. Petty is one of the few artists of his era to be able to command this kind of money. He's been nothing if not consistent and what he does he still does very well. I doubt I would pay that much to see him do it again, but I know lots would. Like deranger, I can't shake the irony of an artist who once fought so hard to make his music accessible to everyone, now pricing it out of the range of so many.
