  1. I don't know how we've never heard of this but this guy is sitting here telling me there's this show on BBC called 'The Mighty Booch' that I'm not sure, the pilot episode sounds like two zookeepers bribing each other to fight a kangaroo. Sounds familiar.
  2. Guy's textbook bipolar. I know. Guy's also a barbarian at the gate, a mad poet, sad genius, bad ass mother fuck.
  3. There was a really good review of this film in the New York Times, a black woman writer who normally does hip hop. She nailed the issues, interviews Doyle III I think too. Or talks about his part in the movie. I think her names is like Keffah Senna or some shit.
  4. 13 minutes. Say one tune and KC Accidental. You do know that you HAVE to play KC right? And that the Slip are going to be listening when you do it. Right?
  5. So I guess that's clearish. I did put in a word with Brad that the promoters needed whatever help/support was offered (CD's, promo) from management.
  6. Jaydawg just posted on Stillepost that Lovely Feathers are opening Guelph which I don't think they are. Don't want to get the twiggy indie boys all in a bunch.
  7. I think the Duo are special guests in Philly (tonight?) and another show. I hadn't heard of this wasn't sure if others had.
  8. Okay here's a teaser quote. I looked back and the thing that Marc said was: "It depends who's triggering what from whose digital module". It sort of sucks actually with some of the transcript because they patched out at points so it was a bit of a struggle just to hear them. I sort of need to call Marc back actually to clear up a quote or two. Brad on playing Even Rats in Washington: "Yeah definitely I got a bit of a shiver. I was hoping people would pick up on some of the geographic references."
  9. I managed never to use the 'j' word in the interview. I didn't want to get hung up on this constant referencing to the jamband thing. It's relevant but not really the point. We talked more about the album, the songs on the album the composition of the songs, their recording etc.
  10. I played Dissever for someone the other day and they said 'this is really great end of the world music'. But they didn't say it like the end of the world was a bad thing. The thing was, with Guigs' question is it was weird being on conference - some of it we were just catching up- it sort of threw off the pacing or how I would have approached it. It was sort of a round robin. It was a question of where the best direction was to take the conversation. I also knew I'd have lots of time to chat with them over the next while and would get the answer at some point.
  11. I just finished up. I can't even process right now. It was with Marc and Brad on conference call, both seemed in good spirits and were happy to reconnect. What can I say. I never got to the equipment theft question which was on the top of my list. Marc and I talked for a bit then Brad and Marc on conference. We touched on everything from David Cross, Werner Herzog, Stars, Drew Malamud and working the same studio as Stars. How Airplane Primitive came together. Okay here's a nugget then I gotta go and process and start transcribing this. Marc said he's not playing the Danelectro he's playing the Strat on Airplane Primitive (six strings). He's playing the guitar part and he and Brad are doing a duelling guitars thing. He's playing the bass with his right foot on the pedal board. Also Andrew is triggering certain synths and whatnot from his samples. They also talked about how Life In Disguise and Mothwing Bite are fun to play live. The weird thing was Brad then said it all depended on which horde of samples (can't remember how he put it I'll look back) they're tapping into. I definitely got the impression they could all call on each others bank of samples and sequences which was confusing (usually self triggered, non?). I definitely got more than I needed and it looks good for the run. Brad says they have say 100-150 maybe 200 if they were expected to play every song they'd ever performed. They would like to call upon say 45-50 of those but really only 25 really interest them. I did put in a plug for The Earth Will Dissever And Consume You After These Messages though.
  12. Just finished the interview. Other thread.
  13. Alas I think it's dandy the flower. One can dream though. Brad, almost worked in a lyric I had written into a song at one point. A friend committed suicide (Northern Wish knows her and her family) after the May 24 Come Together Slip show and I cam home to that news. Buzzkill sort of doesn't quite get to the point enough.
  14. I think I'm out of luck. I haven't been really creative about any street promotion. I'm focusing on an interview I'm doing with them today for some local coverage. I don't know if being a journalist disqualifies you from the contest or what. I think if they did write a song about me, well I'd rather it was just a line or something, and that I inspired it. I also think if they actually 'had' to write a song about me I'd just about melt.
  15. I know as far as I know I'm the only person who knows about that Do Make night. I know it was in Boston and I know anyone I know in Do Make either wasn't there or went home (or was way too drunk and recalls none of it which seems likely). A funnier story is Borcherdt and Walsh from Holy Fuck jamming in Marc's basement and Marc's not even in town. Mr. The Cake let them crash there or party there or something.
  16. I need good vibes too for my interview with the Slip in a couple hours (Lara also needs her own set of, uhmm, good vibes).
  17. I don't exactly cry crocodile tears over the lost love with Slip and the so-called jamband crowd. I think one take I might try on them today is whether they're mistaking 'tape trading' with 'jambands' or 'heads' - I don't know if that's too subtle a distinction. It's like to say- well seriously heads and tapers have been some of the few people to support this band through some darkish times (that's worth something- I don't know if that all amounts to simply jamband wankery.
  18. I just want to hear 'whose got my heady ticket stubs' come out of that lovely ladies voice. Hell I'd sample something like that if I were, you know, Dangermouse.
  19. I know I know. But seriously Dissever fits. And so does Tonight We Leave Chicago. They really do. I think even you've said that. Or Driving Backwards With You. They owe it to the Canadian fans to bust out some stuff along those lines occasionally. And guess who my point person for the interview is tomorrow? Marc Dimenti Friedman.
  20. The ending is great too though this album is clearly not indie rock through and through:
  21. I don't know I think the guy is about as biased in the direction of indie rock as I am in the direction against. Like it's well written but he's got more of an axe to grind and he's sort of shaping the material to suit his purposes. Although everything he's describing is happening on some level or other. I'd write like the mirror opposite of this piece. This is rubbish: This is incredibly sound and I'll probably quote it. It's actually sort of remarkable that he just out and says it:
  22. I meant to comment on Bouche pointing out the recent setlist. I think it's heartening to see them playing 74 and Before You Were Born (Alabama Man and kitkat/lauzon's favourite songs respectively). If they don't play Fuji, Poor Boy and Wolof and instead play 74, Before You Were Born, Jumby, Hey Worrier, Dissever and the like I can deal. Weirdness actually has me a bit anxious about these shows because legitimately I don't want to go and see a bunch of cookie cutter sets. Admittedly what I'm really afraid of is being helpless to do anything about it.
  23. thanks guys - I'll use some or the gist of them. Hopefully the next couple of days.
  24. I feel like I finally nailed down my interview with the Slip's publicist. I should be doing it Wednesday. So serious questions you'd actually like to see answered by members of the band.
