  1. A friend of mine is moving to Barrie at the end of March and has to leave her place. Here's her description of the place. If anyone is interested I can pass on her number to you.

It's a really great one bedroom apartment on Limebank Rd. Not far from town (8 min drive to Hunt Club and Riverside) but lots of wide open spaces! The rent is $725.00 including all utilities and there is a washer and dryer in the apartment. There's about 50 acres of land and a fire pit and barns and you can have a really great garden there this summer! It will be available April 1.

  2. I guess my question is not 'why do people get upset by gay marriage'? I know the mechanics of that - covenant with god for the purpose of procreation blah blah blah. Rather, I don't understand how they feel someone else's actions affect them.

This business about defiling the underlying sanctity of marriage is tripe. Homosexuals are looking for legal recognition of civil marriages. To my knowledge there is no movement in any established church to bring same sex marriage into the fold of organized religion. In my mind's eye this concept can only be threatening to someone who has some completely sociopathic self importance.

To me it reads as very weak people who require the psychological crutch of a 'tribe' (for lack of a better term) they can call their own, and a 'them' to whom they can then redirect their anger arising from all their own short-comings.

I shoulda never read this thread. This is something that really pisses me off. My fundamental philosophy of life and spirtuality is simple: be kind and generous to everyone you meet and the recipricol spiritual payoff enlightens. Or, to coin a phrase "All you need is love".

The idea of blocking access to an institution that will give joy and happiness to someone just because their lifestyle is not one I would choose violates that fundamental principle.

    Arghhhh! I'm done.

  3. This is a pretty interesting line of discussion. I've had a theory for some time concerning drug use / moderation / and 'responsible' consumption.

When I was 24 I got a stomach ulcer from too much booze. So, I quit drinking for two years.

I didn't ever consume anything harder than shrooms or various forms of thc until I was around 26. That year I tried both e and lsd. About a year later I started thinking about all the stories (a lot of them similar to what has been written here) my friends had told me of their experiences and what advice I would give to others.

My opinion (and that's all it is) is that most drugs can be safely used if you've got yourself mentally straightened out.

By the time I started playing with more serious psychedelics I really had had time to learn who I was and what I wanted out of life, my relationships with other people and my experiences in general. I didn't have any of the bullsh1t hang-ups that go along with being 16, 18, or even 22.

As a result, I never felt drawn to over use or even all-that-regular use. Being a non drinker for two years showed me how much fun it can be to go out partying and just watching everyone else get wasted (I'm one of the few people that actually likes drunks). So, even though I love the high from good drugs I am also very happy to save it for special occasions.

I've been really happy with who I am, where I'm going and how I'm getting there for a long time. So, I don't feel that drugs work as an escape for me. Rather, I start to feel like I'm missing out from the rest of my life if I go off on too serious a bender.

I guess, the end result is the same. The idea of using e on troops is absolutely absurd from my point of view. I agree with most here that it will not help them with the deep / central problem.

If they want to effectively treat the troops they should start with foreign policy that eschews peace.

  4. Rookies.

Its all about ignoring the menu altogether.

    Chicken, proscuito and hot salami.

    Eggplant, lettuce, tomatoe and mayo.

    You ready for this...

Top it with big chunks of parmesan cheese cut off the block with a knife (grating is for wimps).

  5. Shocking that Martin would want to bring any "Kyoto attention" to Canada given that we don't stand a chance in hell of meeting our targets.

The Canadian government has really disgusted me with their approach to this issue. Reactionary and short-sighted all the way.

I agree that this is fully needed as the first step. The big danger is that many people think Kyoto will solve the climate change problems - when it fails to do so (being a first step only) how willing will people be to make those next (financially) expensive steps...

  6. The last time I saw them at Barrymore's was in March 2003 - it was repetitive and not up to their potential.

I saw them play the Capital City Music Hall (or whatever the hell its called) opening and they'd changed a lot from the March 03 show. Much more energy and breadth. Then again maybe it was the cookies...

The Ottawa Stage Force Field was definitely in effect at both shows. I imagine this changes the dynamics for a band considerably.

I'll check'em again for $20. They've got enough talent to warrant another try.

  7. Especially considering that botox displaces patients with legitimate problems from dermitologist access.

A friend of mine got this freaky exema on her face so had to go see the doc. Wait times for dermitologists are into the 3 - 6 month range in Ottawa. Once she got in, every second person was in there for botox and the secretaries were booking RETURN botox treatments for every customer on a three month basis.

She was pretty pissed that she had to watch her face disolve for three months so some vane old bastards could have the wrinkles around their eyes smoothed out on a regular basis...

  8. Pretty heated opinions indeed. Ha ha ha.

Simply. I appreciate any music that has imagination, creativity and passion as its basis. I don't appreciate the rest.

Having said that, there is music I appreciate but don't like (technical mastery without any discernable soul such as Steve Vai etc.).

The line between (not) appreciating and (dis)liking is a pretty grey area. And, I still don't know what it is that makes me like or dislike music - only what I appreciate and don't appreciate. It probably comes down to something that I relate to in the way their musical ideas are expressed. But, I don't need to relate to / like music to appreciate the quality and passion the artist put into it.

Genres - I can't think of any one genre that hasn't contained at least one artist that I would 'appreciate'. Similarly, I can't think of any genre that doesn't have one artist that I dislike.

All that aside - FVCK Creedlebackly Hipty Cent - and all cookie cutter products (they ain't artists that's for sure).

  9. There is something feeble and a little contemptible about a man who cannot face the perils of life without the help of comfortable myths. Almost inevitably, some part of him is aware that they are myths, and that he believes them only because they are comforting. But he dares not face this thought! Moreover, since he is aware, however dimly, that his opinions are not rational, he becomes furious when they are disputed.
