  1. I saw thhe Toronto show a frew years back and it was killer. I was ready to hate on Eddie`s kid (Wolfgang) taking Micheal Anthony`s place but he turned out to be awesome at 17! He was hitting all the harmony notes, they were not canned at all. This time they are coming with a new album that I head is amazing. Hold on to your hats, Van Halen still got it.

  5. Turns out we will be having BPM TV film this gig for future use on national TV which is pretty bitchin'. Also everyone in attendance will get a free CD.
  6. I think the bottom line is that in this economy people are not willing to pay hundreds of dollars for concerts, regardless of how much of a production it is. Even for an established artist like Prince.
  7. Thanks for the links Brad, those Chameleon Project live shows on the archive a little older. To see what we are up to now check this... Bigfoot Wako
  8. Facebook Event Link nufunk.ca presents [color:red]BioDiesel (Philladelphia, U.S.A) back to Toronto’s Monarch Tavern (12 Clinton St., 1 block south of College) alongside Toronto’s own Chameleon Project for a double bill of foot stomping, mind-bending dancefloor electronica. (facebook event link) BioDiesel lies in razor-thin space between band and DJ, synthetic and human, man and machine. The duo is an inventive collaboration between Johnny Rabb and Clay Parnell. Modern electronic dance music has always been primarily about beats and basslines—and that fact is ever more present today. Naturally, when you take a world-class drummer and a celebrated bassist who are also passionate producers, the elements are there for a super-charged ensemble that shatters boundaries and dares to take the musical genres they explore to thrilling new places. BioDiesel is coming on strong in 2011 and beyond. The first half of the year has seen performances in every time zone in North America, the release of the EPCarbon Confidential, which garnered favourable attention from Urb.com and other media, as well as some exciting collaborations with top artists in the scene. Before the year is out, they will have released a live album and toured as far away from home base as Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Malaysia. Drumming legend Johnny Rabb—pioneer of the freehand technique—has performed and given clinics the world over. Recognized as an inventor, author, educator and the Original World’s Fastest Drummer, he is able to execute his passion for live electronic music in ways that few (if any) others are able to effectively emulate. Clay Parnell is known for his work with Brothers Past, the Join (featuring members of the New Deal) and Philabuster (featuring Korey Riker of the Roots), as well as holding down his own Philadelphia residency as Lo Life. Recently tapped as a consultant for The Bass Players Bible in the styles of Drum n Bass, House and Hip Hop, he is considered the go-to bassist in the Live Electronic genre. Whether shaking a dance club to its foundation, blowing the doors off a theatre or working a festival audience into a frenzy … BioDiesel is the cutting edge of tangible electronic music. Chameleon Project Intelligent Dance Music Focused, driven, improvised..…and all the way live! The Chameleon Project delivers sleek and progressive dance music, using all the tools at their disposal. 15. Funk legend Sly Stone homeless and living in a van in LA By WILLEM ALKEMA and REED TUCKER Posted: 2:05 AM, September 25, 2011 In his heyday, he lived at 783 Bel Air Road, a four-bedroom, 5,432-square-foot Beverly Hills mansion that once belonged to John Phillips of The Mamas & the Papas. The Tudor-style house was tricked out in his signature funky black, white and red color scheme. Shag carpet. Tiffany lamps in every room. A round water bed in the master bedroom. There were parties where Stevie Wonder, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Miles Davis would drop by, where Etta James would break into “At Last†by the bar. Just four years ago, he resided in a Napa Valley house so large it could only be described as a “compound,†with a vineyard out back and multiple cars in the driveway. SOUL SURVIVOR: Sly Stone, now 68 years old, shows he can still get funky -- brandishing a Taser for a photo session in front of his Studebaker. 'I like my small camper. I just do not want to return to a fixed home ... I must keep moving,' Stone says. But those days are gone. Today, Sly Stone -- one of the greatest figures in soul-music history -- is homeless, his fortune stolen by a lethal combination of excess, substance abuse and financial mismanagement. He lays his head inside a white camper van ironically stamped with the words “Pleasure Way†on the side. The van is parked on a residential street in Crenshaw, the rough Los Angeles neighborhood where “Boyz n the Hood†was set. A retired couple makes sure he eats once a day, and Stone showers at their house. The couple’s son serves as his assistant and driver. Inside the van, the former mastermind of Sly & the Family Stone, now 68, continues to record music with the help of a laptop computer. “I like my small camper,†he says, his voice raspy with age and years of hard living. “I just do not want to return to a fixed home. I cannot stand being in one place. I must keep moving.†Stone has been difficult to pin down for years. In the last two decades, he’s become one of music’s most enigmatic figures, bordering on reclusive. You’d be forgiven for assuming he’s dead. He rarely appears in public, and just getting him in a room requires hours or years of detective work, middlemen and, of course, making peace with the likelihood that he just won’t show up. There was a time when Sly was difficult to escape. Stone, whose real name is Sylvester Stewart, was one of the most visible, flamboyant figures of the late 1960s and early 1970s. The multiracial, multi-gender band that Stone assembled fused funk, soul and psychedelic rock and became one of the most influential acts ever. The San Fran-based group released a string of hits beginning with the 1968 album “Dance to the Music,†followed by “Everyday People,†“Family Affair,†“Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)†and “Stand!†The group’s costumes and showmanship were just as memorable. The members favored giant afros, flashy capes, Beatle boots, neon vests and leopard-print jumpsuits. 16. Crime in Cananda is at it's lowest levels since the 60's. This idea that we need tougher sentences or laws is totally manufactured by the conservatives as an easy "hey were keeping you safe now vote for us" type legislation. It also allows for the construction of more jails and contracts for more equipment, weapons etc. needed to fight this so called crime problem. Guess who's getting those contracts...most likely conservative cronies. Seems like the US has moved on from the George Bush jr. era and we are still stuck in it. Brutal.
  17. America is still mostly xenophobic and racist. That's the nature of America, I think. Jerry Garcia And as far as I'm concerned, it's like I say, drugs are not the problem. Other stuff is the problem. Jerry Garcia And the live show is still our main thing. Jerry Garcia But hey, when you live in Watts, you need a little smack to get by, you know what I mean? You need something soft and comfortable in your life, 'cause you're not going to get it from what's around you. And society isn't going to give it to you. Jerry Garcia Constantly choosing the lesser of two evils is still choosing evil. Jerry Garcia Death comes at you no matter what you do in this life, and to equate drugs with death is a facile comparison. Jerry Garcia For me, the lame part of the Sixties was the political part, the social part. The real part was the spiritual part. Jerry Garcia Hunter can write a melody and stuff like that, but his forte is lyrics. He can write a serviceable melody to hang his lyrics on, and sometimes he comes up with something really nice. Jerry Garcia I don't know why, it's the same reason why you like some music and you don't like others. There's something about it that you like. Ultimately I don't find it's in my best interests to try and analyze it, since it's fundamentally emotional. Jerry Garcia I mean, just because you're a musician doesn't mean all your ideas are about music. So every once in a while I get an idea about plumbing, I get an idea about city government, and they come the way they come. Jerry Garcia I mean, whatever kills you kills you, and your death is authentic no matter how you die. Jerry Garcia I read somewhere that 77 per cent of all the mentally ill live in poverty. Actually, I'm more intrigued by the 23 per cent who are apparently doing quite well for themselves. Jerry Garcia I think it's too bad that everybody's decided to turn on drugs, I don't think drugs are the problem. Crime is the problem. Cops are the problem. Money's the problem. But drugs are just drugs. Jerry Garcia I'm not trying to clock scores in this lifetime, it's just that things are better now than they were like five, ten years ago. Music has gotten a lot better. There's a lot of people who are committed to - soulfully. Jerry Garcia I'm shopping around for something to do that no one will like. Jerry Garcia If we had any nerve at all, if we had any real balls as a society, or whatever you need, whatever quality you need, real character, we would make an effort to really address the wrongs in this society, righteously. Jerry Garcia Our strong suit is what we do, and our audience. Jerry Garcia So it's one of those things where we have to - our problem is pacing ourselves and still reaching a large enough number of our audience. Because we don't want to burn the audience. And we don't want to be excluding anybody. Jerry Garcia So we are pretty convinced we don't want to play huge stadiums unless we can play them well. Jerry Garcia Stuff that's hidden and murky and ambiguous is scary because you don't know what it does. Jerry Garcia The alternate media are becoming important and viable alternatives to playing live. Records, videos, that kind of thing. They're going to start to count for something. Because there's only a limited amount of us-time available to us. Jerry Garcia The real problems are cultural. The problems of the people who take drugs as a cultural trap - I think there's a real problem there, the crack stuff, the hopelessness of the junkie. The urban angst. Jerry Garcia We're not uncomfortable with it, and we've already been through enough of the music business where I'm not really worried that commercial success is going to in some way - we're already past saving, you know what I mean? It's too late for us. Jerry Garcia What we do is as American as lynch mobs. America has always been a complex place. Jerry Garcia Yeah, I think we have to. If we want our shows to be - if we want the quality of the shows to be good, and we want the energy to be high, and if we want to be in good enough physical shape to do them, and not exhaust ourselves on the road, and not get stale, we have to pace. Jerry Garcia
  18. They didn't change venues. The venue changed it's name. :dazed: too bad I was hoping they changed it. I have never seen a decent sounding show there.
  19. Got my pre-sale tix for Buffalo. Floors! I like Furthurs pre-sale much mor ethan Phish's. With the Furthur pre-sale I coudl choose where I wanted to be. Phish's lottery system has caused me to stop doing pre-sale as I don't want to be stuck with lawns. They should have an option for "no lawn" with Phish tix. Also anyone notice they changed the venue from the HSBC to the 1st Niagra center? Good change as the HSBC is huge and the sound blows. See you there!
  20. Kanada Kev YOU ROCK!! Thanks so much. BTW the Luxembourg show is corrupted. Everytime I try to download and unpack it I get and error message.
  21. Killer line up. Twilight Dub Circus is killer as is Mad Professor. Not ot be missed.
