  2. Luckyyyyyyy. I thought of two more: - I met Don Cherry twice when I was younger. - I used to work for Michael Kaeshammer's sister, Jane, at a cafe in Golden. Michael came in once and I met him.
  3. Two more! Steve Paikin from TVO Everyone knows T-Rex..
  4. I don't know any of these people, but my brother shares a hatred of the Toronto Argonauts with all of the following: Mr. T Ted Reader, the King of BBQ Doug Mitchell, former CFL Commissioner Colin Mocharie Geroy Simon, BC Lions player Former NFL passing leader Jeff Garcia ... sorry.
  5. Sat Dec 16 @ Casbah Sonic Unyon Christmas Party w/ A Northern Chorus, Camouflage Nights, Joel Elliott, The Ghost Is Dancing, Neil Haverty, Lullaby Arkestra, The Nein, Raising The Fawn, The Rest, Bob Wiseman (7pm) That's a lot of bands! Brodie can you send more info? Time slots and cover charge? Cheerio. Also, anyone recommend checking out any of these bands? I'm really only familiar with the tunes of Raising The Fawn and Bob Wiseman.
  6. happy birthday moose! can't wait to see ya once again, very soon. i hope you're still thinkin about nye in toronto!
  7. From the A&C sites: National Anthem of Nowhere The Naked & Alone Haul Away Cheap Like Sebastien iRafaga! Chances Are A Rent Boy Goes Down Fast Pony for Victor Jara Justine, Beckoning Jimmy Scott is the Answer NoNoNo Release Date: February 6, 2007 'National Anthem of Nowhere’ is for everyone who feels that they have no voice or can’t be heard. They hear this title and something stirs inside them. Then they hear this song and they feel that they “know†it. They meet strangers in nowhere places and will never forget those meetings. They wander out into the suburban, in-between zones and there they are welcomed. You can download the new track 'My Sword Hand's Anger' at the new Apostle site. This song doesn't appear to be on the album (??). I don't have listening capabilities on this computer so I can't comment on it just yet. I've been looking forward to this one! A friend of mine who works for A&C says that its a much more upbeat album than Folkloric Feel.
  8. M. Ward's coming to Toronto again soon: Saturday Jan 27 Mod Club Theatre (19+) Toronto, Ontario
  9. I'm just commenting on the linked article, not the above argument... I love how so many of the musicians response to "Name one band which will take it to the next level in 2007?" is to name themselves. ha. Jason Collett gave Al Tuck a shoutout - nice. Who is Dr. Dog?
  10. When I lived in London, there was a Dead cover band called Cosmic Charlie. Is that what you're talkin' about?? That was in 2001 but I think they'd been around for a long time. They played to a crowd of about 10 of us and afterwards we sat around drinking as they grumbled on about the low turnouts.
  11. You know I love a good mix! I'll give it a good listen when I get home. Can you post a tracklisting?
  12. NW's night out sounds fuckin' awesome. Anyone else thinking about going to The Sadies? Cowboy, what're you up to?
  13. I'm a big fan of Transgressions of Vincent and the one before it. I haven't heard Post War yet. (didn't know about it actually) He is indeed amazing; still pretty lullabye esque though! I know theres much more to his story.. What other band was he in or involved with? A duet with Norah Jones could be pretty nice.
  14. Thanks dudes. Especially you, weenie.
  15. My friend is having trouble getting his mp3 player (iRiver iHP-100) to connect to his computer. Basically the computer is failing to recognize that it is plugged in. The external device just does not show up (ie. when you open My Computer). In the bottom right corner, "New Hardware Found" or the like does not show up either. What DOES show up though is the icon you use for "Safely Remove Hardware". Its not a problem with the USB cable. I plugged my mp3 player (iRiver H340) into the same computer using the same USB cable. Also in both cases we're using USB 2.0 Can anyone lend a hand? Is it an issue with the driver on the mp3 player? Thank you kindly of course.. kevO
  16. The Sadies @ The Horseshoe... Possibly with The Good Brothers opening. Its gonna be the balls.
  17. Nice one, Shain, I enjoyed the read. Sounds like a good evening out on the town. "Phelps’s work was inventive, perplexing, depressing, uplifting, and downright melancholic, all at once." Good call on that! I really love his newer stuff (which is actually all I know of him so far). I liked too how you said the audience was faced with "new melodies... new problems" through his music. But I have no sympathy for you having to sit through 3 long CSNY shows!

    calendar

By a while ago he means four years ago! It may take a little while to get used to the calendar but it'll pay off when we've customed tweaked the shows listings to show listing perfection. I likee.
  19. That's what interests me most too... HOW?
  20. Wow, thats pretty sketchy! Although, I guess as long as you have your open water, going to 30m is the next step. I could sign up for a 'deep dive' adventure dive today (which is mandatory if you would like to work towards your 'advanced' anyway) and go down to 30m. My friend Ziggy is heading to Sipidan (sp?) in the next few days to do his open water course! I have just over a week left til I go home.. I was hoping to get to Cambodia but at this point it doesn't work out, so I might do a fun dive or two before I go. Yeah I'd definitely be asking for a good briefing before stepping into the cold waters. I asked my instructor and he said that there is a little course you can take for using a dry suit, though not mandatory. Hey Paan, what's NAUI? Some kind of technical diving? What're the diving opportunities like around the Gulf Islands?
  21. I made jam once and didn't use a canner. Basically I chopped up the rhubarb, threw in a shitload of sugar and let it sit for a few hours, then boiled it down (I may have added water), then threw in a packet of jello powder. You got yourself some delicious jam! But its fresh jam, so you have to eat it fairly quickly or freeze it. Its not preserved or anything. I found the recipe online.
  22. Diving is the balls! Yeah obviously tropical waters are preferable, but I'll take what I can get eh. You'll love it bouche. It just takes a few days, then you're certified for life! Yeah StoneMtn, after your open water course you are certified to dive anywhere in the world, just no deeper than 18m. After you get your 'Advanced' you're certified to dive to 30m. To get your advanced you have to do 5 'adventure dives'. Two of them are mandatory (deep water, and navigation dive) and then you pick three from a huge list of exciting dives. Like wreck dive, current dive, underwater photography dive, underwater naturalist dive, etc.
  23. I just completed the PADI open water diver course! It was 4 days long and I did a total of 4 open water dives, on the island of Ko Lanta, Thailand. www.scuba-fish.com Thats the school I did it with. So now that I finally did this, I'm certified for life! Any other diver skanks on board?? Are there any good diving opportunities in Lake Ontario or thereabouts?
  24. I'm not that far away from you right now.. I'm on Ko Lanta. I just finished my PADI open water course today!!! Indonesia has just moved up a notch on my list of places to visit. Great surf, great (gamelan) music, and now great diving!
