  1. When I sat down to write this it occurred to me that over the last 16 years or so, more often than not, if I was at a live music event BradM was there. If it was a random last minute night out to see live music, more often than not, BradM was there. If it was a show I felt was worth traveling for, more often than not BradM was there.  If it was one one one of those magic shows that I still reminisce about occasionally, more often than not, BradM was there.

And more often than not, he caught some of that magic on tape and made it available to the world to enjoy.

BradM was a pillar of this community and I am deeply saddened that he is gone. It pains me to think that I won't ever see Brad bound across the bar toward me again or enjoy his enthusiasm for great music.

When my face is melting in the future I will do my best to remember "this is why BradM taped".

    Aloha BradM
  2. Andre the Giant drank something 1000 beers a day. Surely I'm way off on that number.

I'll dig up the vid when I get home and sendspace it or youtube it or something.

It's a great video! Someone says "buddy's laughing at us!," talking about some neighbour.. then I'm like, "I'm shooting a video!" all surprised like because I thought I was taking a picture.. then "seriously guys, bring it in." Then some odd animal noise is heard, which I assume comes from Shawnald, who I think walked all the way to the beers store and back without shoes on.. could be wrong. This was at about 10:30 am the morning after the Jambands.ca FUNdraiser... so January. Cold out.

  3. A compound found in cannabis may stop breast cancer spreading throughout the body, US scientists believe.

The California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute team are hopeful that cannabidiol or CBD could be a non-toxic alternative to chemotherapy.

Unlike cannabis, CBD does not have any psychoactive properties so its use would not violate laws, Molecular Cancer Therapeutics reports.

The authors stressed that they were not suggesting patients smoke marijuana.

They added that it would be highly unlikely that effective concentrations of CBD could be reached by smoking cannabis.

This compound offers the hope of a non-toxic therapy that could achieve the same results without any of the painful side effects

    Lead researcher Dr Sean McAllister

CBD works by blocking the activity of a gene called Id-1 which is believed to be responsible for the aggressive spread of cancer cells away from the original tumour site - a process called metastasis.

Past work has shown CBD can block aggressive human brain cancers.

The latest work found CBD appeared to have a similar effect on breast cancer cells in the lab.

  4. Main Street Eyes

    by Iggy Pop

I work so hard, so don't trip me up

Shakin' a leg like the tail o' the pup

I'm payin' dues till I register heat

Sure hope I don't end up on the street

    Home, boy

    Home, boy

    Everybody needs a home

    Home, boy

    Home, boy

    Everybody needs a home

So many people rise and fall

Who's lookin' after you at all?

    Nobody knows anybody at all

Strangers in paradise down at the mall

    Home, boy

    Home, boy

    Everybody needs a home

    Home, boy

    Home, boy

    Everybody needs a home

The life we live is tricky tricky

I love my home, and my family

Who's gonna love you when the

    Mountain gets steep?

    We're gonna make it-in a Jeep

This whole country is scared of failure.

My head keeps trying to sell me ambition.

But in my heart, I want self-respect.

    There's a conflict.

Boy, I feel so outgunned today

But I'll get up and fight back, anyway

You and I aare not huge mainstream stars

But unlike them, we're really what we are

    We got Main Street eyes

Watchin' as the big boys roll by

    Under rotten television skies

    We got Main Street eyes

I saw a kitten squashed in the street

I read about a plastic surgeon and his art collection.

We are played for suckers all the time

    Phony rock and roll

    It's a crime

I don't want to dip myself in trash

I don't want to give myself for cash

    We got Main Street eyes

Tryin' to do what's decent with our lives

    Under funny television skies

    We got Main Street eyes

    Walkin' around sometimes

I see a tension under the surface

People are just about ready to explode.

So hold me, and trust me

    I love you, don't worry.

    Keep your Main Street eyes

    Keep your Main Street eyes

    Keep your Main Street eyes

    Eyes

    Eyes

Many thanks to everyone who had a hand in making that place special.

    Good times.

Police said Nowak drove 900 miles, donned a disguise and was armed with a BB gun and pepper spray when she confronted a woman she believed was a competitor for the affections of Navy Cmdr. William Oefelein, an unmarried fellow astronaut.

Oefelein, 41, piloted the space shuttle Discovery in December. He and Nowak trained together but never flew a mission together.

Nowak told police that her relationship with Oefelein was "more than a working relationship but less than a romantic relationship," according to an arrest affidavit.

Inside Nowak's vehicle, which was parked at a nearby motel, authorities found a pepper spray package, an unused BB-gun cartridge, latex gloves and e-mails between Oefelein and Colleen Shipman.

They also found a letter "that indicated how much Mrs. Nowak loved Mr. Oefelein" and Shipman's home address, the arrest affidavit said.

Police said Nowak told them that she only wanted to scare Shipman into talking to her about her relationship and didn't want to harm her.

"If you were just going to talk to someone, I don't know that you would need a wig, a trench coat, an air cartridge BB gun and pepper spray," Jones said. "It's just really a very sad case."

Defense attorney Donald Lykkebak said Tuesday that he believes the attempted murder charge was filed because police were unhappy Nowak would be released on bail.

"I guess they didn't like the ruling in court this morning, did they? You think they would have done it if she was still in jail?" he said.

According to authorities, Nowak believed Shipman was romantically involved with Oefelein, and when she found out Shipman was flying to Orlando from Houston, she decided to confront her early Monday, according to the arrest affidavit.

Nowak raced from Houston to Orlando wearing diapers in the car so she wouldn't have to stop to go to the bathroom, authorities said. Astronauts wear diapers during launch and re-entry.

Dressed in a wig and a trench coat, she waited for Shipman's plane to land and then boarded the same airport shuttle bus Shipman took to get to her car, police said. Shipman told police she noticed someone following her, hurried inside the car and locked the doors, according to the arrest affidavit.

Nowak rapped on the window, tried to open the car door and asked for a ride. Shipman refused but rolled down the car window a few inches when Nowak started crying, the statement said. Nowak then sprayed a chemical into Shipman's car, the affidavit said. Shipman drove to the parking lot booth and police were called.

An officer reported following Nowak and watching her throw away a bag containing the wig and BB gun. Police also found a steel mallet, a 4-inch folding knife, rubber tubing, $600 and garbage bags inside a bag Nowak was carrying when she was arrested, authorities said.

  6. Corporation.DVD.jpg

    - the Corporation explores the nature and spectacular rise of the dominant institution of our time. Footage from pop culture, advertising, TV news, and corporate propaganda, illuminates the corporation's grip on our lives. Taking its legal status as a "person" to its logical conclusion, the film puts the corporation on the psychiatrist's couch to ask "What kind of person is it?" Provoking, witty, sweepingly informative.
