  1. I'm crossing my fingers that this means they're headed West, though I know it's not entirely likely.
  2. I once sang the national anthem on the field before an Expos v. Astros game at the Houston Astrodome.
  3. Happy Birthday, brah! Hope to run into you next time I'm back home.
  4. The original dates have been changed, and it's now Vancouver on Friday and Victoria on Saturday. This was confirmed on another board by Aaron Collier (JSB keyboard player extradordinaire).
  5. I fail to see how a company that big and centralized with stores as big as Wal-Mart's could ever come even close to being "green." Wal-Mart is vicious and unethical and makes me angry on a fundamental level, more so than any other corporate entity. I have friends who won't mention the store around me, because they know how fired up I get.
  6. I love the two-night run. It's like having a 20-hour setbreak during which you can leave the venue and come back having slept it off and gotten ready to party again. The first one that springs to mind for me is Phish at SPAC in June of '04. The two shows were each vastly different experiences for me (with the first night being all about intensity and the second one mellower), but were both really special nights.
  7. Nice. Such a wicked weekend last year, I really hope I can make the trip home to LP for it again. Hopefully they'll get some snow before then and it won't have to be called browndirt.down. Joking aside, the addition of Bisco does frighten me a little bit. Lake Placid is only big enough to absorb so much of a "scene" before it infringes too much on the day-to-day life of the village. This is why Phish was permanently banned after '96, and I'm hoping the shadiness that often comes with the Bisco scene doesn't lead to the same fate for snoe.down. See y'all in March (I hope). Peace, Hart
  8. Man, that's an awesome lookin' ride at not a bad price for what you're gettine. [color:purple]And I'll bet it doesn't attract any special attention from the cops.
  9. Hey Hey. School be damned, I'm going to make it out to more shows this winter. Personally, I can't think of a better way to mark my taking of this academically reprehensible vow than with a JSB show in Victoria the week of my birthday. I miss being able to see these guys on a regular basis, and am really psyched to enlighten some of my new Left Coast friends. Anyone else hitting this? Edit to add: the date's been changed to the Saturday night. Djmelbatoast, I hope this means you can make it.
  10. You mean the Beatles' "Something"' date=' I'm guessing? I remember Sinatra made a comment once about it being the most romantic song ever written. I'm a sucker these days for Willie Nelson's version of "Georgia on My Mind". [/quote'] I'm assuming he meant "Something in the Way she Moves" by James Taylor. I think "Long May you Run" by Neil Young is a great love song, though it's more about loyalty through the years as opposed to in-the-moment mood-setting.
  11. That's incredible. Is there a cool story to go along with it, or is the family just, uhhhh, financially privileged?
  12. Yeah, you can't lay down a wicked story like that and not share the one important detail. [color:purple]Otherwise, it's quite clear that you're lying.
  13. Loud and lacking any semblance of musical coherence. As I said above, there were snippets which were beautiful, but on the whole it was largely "meh." At times I felt like I was stuck inside a really bad round of "Space." Like I said, though, I saw enough glimpses of glory that I hope to be able to give them another shot at some point.
  14. Is my offer to drive them and promise of a good show and their acceptance of that offer in exchange for their company, not tantamount to a piece of mind contract?
  15. That is great to hear. Cynthia Loiselle did a great job a few years ago of getting quality music in there pretty much weekly, and it looks like that's continued. It's such a random spot out by the train station - I feel like that really adds to the experience of seeing shows there, and I know that performs often comment on the novelty of playing at a true "roadhouse". I miss that lonely walk down Lorne St. to George's on blustery Sackville evenings. (Single tear).
  16. No need to appologize, you provided me with a straight-up review of one show. Also, I love George's so your review was fun to read. They did say last night that they were trying out a bunch of new stuff, which I think might have contributed to the show not really taking off. When a band takes risks like they do, they're bound to have some off nights. Meh.
  17. Oh, I'm always pretty careful to make sure the person knows what they're getting into musically, and being able to send someone a MySpace link really helps in that regard. I think the thing was that last night was an off-night for the band. The girls (I was a damned stud last night) didn't have a bad time - they all thanked me for bringing them along - it's just that they ended up paying fifteen bucks to basically just sit and hang out.
  18. Hey there. So I raved about Akron/Family to a few of my friends yesterday based on what I'd heard on this and another board, and a bunch of us went to what turned out to be a fairly mediocre show. My question is: do any of you ever feel guilty when you sell someone on a show and it doesn't deliver? I couldn't help but feel badly last night when my friends - all of whom had paid a $15.00 cover - just couldn't get into the show and retreated towards the back of the room. I ended up appologizing to them a couple of times, but then I was torn between feeling like I should hang out with them at the back versus staying towards the stage and trying to salvage the show for myself. Thoughts?
  19. So I went, and while it was not unenjoyable, I'd have to file it in the disappointing category. They arrived late (their van broke down) so I think it took them a little while to get into the spirit of the show. Some of the songs were uplifting, but many of them just didn't go anyhere, and the "audience participation" was minimal. It didn't help that the sound was awful and the venue wasn't highly conducive to that type of show. I appreciate people's input from yesterday, and would give these guys another chance, if they came through again, but all in all it was not a stand-out show.
  20. Much love and many prayers to all who are feeling this.
  21. I've always found setlist.com to be the best resource out there, which isn't to say that it's exhaustive. When that one doesn't work, I just do individual searches (Google, etc.) for the artist/show I'm looking for, with spotty results.
  22. Dave-O, that review was rad and is being used to try and pry some of my friends away from the books for the night. Thanks for that.
  23. Were you the booche who posted on PT? Thanks for the input, all. I think this might be a tough one to pass up.
