  1. Were you the booche who posted on PT? Thanks for the input, all. I think this might be a tough one to pass up.
  2. Hey. Anyone checked these guys out? They're playing Victoria tonight and I think it might be just what the doctor ordered before the last two days of exams. Looks like they're kinda folky psychadelic gospel pop, and a lot of people have used the term "uplifting". Any advice is appreciated (a few PTers gave big thumbs up). Peace.
  3. Such a great character actor. 71 is young, too. R.I.P.
  4. People streaming shows off Wolfgang's Vault aren't going to put Bobby's kids through college. Joking aside, though, I find it amusing how the industry types who most often speak up about issues such as this are the ones who wouldn't be making much dough if these tunes were sold anyway. Jorma aside, I have a hard time believing that Janis's former guitar player and Knopfler's manager have as much to gain/lose (depending on your perspective) financially from these shows as Bobby does. It's really easy to say the music should be free when people wouldn't be paying you for it anyway. That said, I love the Vault. That Springsteen show from Winterland got me through a night of studying on Saturday.
  5. Regardless of its merit, I think that quote smacks of bitterness. Buddy Cage gained renown as a player in a band that started largely as a Grateful Dead spin-off (band I thoroughly enjoy, FYI). It seems as though he's annoyed that a group of musicians who don't have the leverage of having played with Jerry are cashing in on Deadhead culture the way he wishes he still could. Buddy, we're sorry that "NRPS" as it exists today isn't booked to play Radio City Music Hall anytime soon and that Bob Weir isn't returning your phone calls, but that doesn't mean you have to take out your frustrations on those who are fortunate enough to be sharing the stage with the old guard.
  6. I certainly thought it was a well done and imporant film, however the lack of action-based discourse in it frustrated me. I know that his main purpose was proving that global warming is a very real and terrifying issue, but it seems to me that the same people who still need to be told that global warming is real could also benefit from some practical tips for what they can do about it. I know there are DVD extras which deal with this, but I thought it was a waste of a captive audience that the only time he even touched on what people can do about global warming in their daily lives was a few text points while the credits were rolling.
  7. [color:purple]You're right, it's about time people stop feeling so shy about discussing The Slip around here.
  8. Thanks for this. I have an mp3 source of a show by this lineup that I got years ago, but it'll be great to get my hands on something crispier. I'm pulling it down now. Peace.
  9. "You don't know if they're hiring at Harvard, do you?"
  10. {{{{{Freak and his leg}}}}} All good vibes, brother, for both you and your appendage.
  11. At first the "*" was pretty special, but yeah, I think it went on a little (way) too long.

  14. I can think of two things wrong with the title of this thread.
  15. I just took a moonlight walk through one of the wooded parks here with a buddy of mine. As we trudged through the snow with the wind whipping in our faces - me wearing mountaineering boots and he wearing snowshoes - we both couldn't help but laugh at how much it really, really didn't feel like Victoria. End blog.

    DSO

I'm busting up right now at the story they had immediately following DSO on that news show. Priceless. That aside, I thought that was an incredible piece. I was especially a fan of how it segued between clips of the Dead to DSO as a means of illustrating the similarities. It seemed like a really thoughtful piece, all around. Thanks for sharing, Cowboy.

    DSO

I've seen them and was very impressed; funny that they're on the Archive, though. Every DSO discussion I've ever seen online (and I come across at least one per week), involves people saying that they cost "way too much" for a "cover band." Personally, I think they're worth every dime: I see it as the price you pay to be entertained by stellar musicians, and I don't really care if they didn't write the music. And, despite what the haters would have you believe, there's plenty of creativity in a DSO show. It's not like a "cover band" in the "Mr. Jones -> Cecilia -> Brown Eyed Girl -> (insert Tom Cochrane/Kim Mitchell/Trooper song here)" sense. It's a great show put on by great musicians. Period. There's also nothing else like them going (as far as I know). Fair enough, but given that M*A*S*H isn't something you ever had to pay for in the first place, and that the "real thing" is still around (it's a TV show, after all), that doesn't hold much water. Entertaining analogy, though.
  18. Probably my all-time favourite post from this board (at least in the Top 5).
  19. That's what's funny for me, coming from Ottawa and Lake Placid; this would warrant just a shrug of the shoulders in either of those places. The problem here is they have to wait for it to melt, and it's not nearly warm enough for that yet. Thanks, I definitely plan to!
  20. Victoria is apparently NOT a city that deals well with the white stuff. We got about 5-10 cm yesterday, but the temperature didn't warm up enough to melt it, and we got a bunch more overnight. Given that there is no snow removal equipment in town, this place is paralyzed. Granted, it's a day I'll be using to study, but better to be studying at home in front of a fire than sitting in class today, that's for damn sure.
  21. Nice seeing Al back in there. Can't wait for snoe.down.
  22. Happy Birthday, Dima. You sure are...uhhhh...well you always know how to...ummmm...yeah, happy birthday man.
