  1. Yonder played the main stage at Telluride yesterday. They played “Half Moon Rising,” which was the first song on their first album and went out of rotation when Jeff left the band. Here’s what a tearful Ben Kaufmann said when introducing it:

Twenty years ago me, Dave and Adam and Jeff Austin stood on this stage and we shared our music with you for the first time. We woke up today and the internet was on fire with rumors and speculation about our brother Jeff Austin. And what we can say is that he is still with us. What is appropriate right now: if you’re a prayer, send prayers his way. If you’re a lover, send love his way. If you’re a healer, send energy his way. This is what we’re going to send his way.

  2. Lots of rumours flying around this morning that Jeff Austin, former mandolin player and frontman of Yonder Mountain String Band, took his own life last night. No confirmation either way at this point, but the longer his camp is silent, the worse it looks. Sending thoughts to everyone close to him.

Edit: I changed the title of the thread to reflect that he has not passed away.

  3. Also there’s a Paul McCartney tribute act this year, which mystifies me. Will he play only post-Beatles material? Will he play Beatles material but with a non-Beatles themed backing band? Did they only have the budget for 1/4 of a Beatles tribute? All actual questions that I have.

Edit: I Googled it. The guy aims to recreate a Paul McCartney show, playing solo and Wings material as well as Beatles tunes. So there’s that.

I can't imagine the ticket prices to be very cheap, I guess we'll know soon.

I was in a back-and-forth about this very topic on Twitter. I’m calling $350 plus camping fees  as the cheapest option, up to a bajillion dollars for super magical endangered tiger VIP packages. Some people were using the Phish Watkins prices as a guideline, but I don’t think this will be comparable in that regard.

If this was the Bluefest lineup, we'd be freaking out!

Loads of good stuff in there but not enough to get me back to The Glen with 60,000 others.

True enough. I would be pretty happy - thrilled, even! - to be able to ride my bike to this festival after work every night. Lots of good stuff on here, but not enough to tempt me to make the trek. Also, as a three-day festival lineup it seems a little cobbled together and uneven, but then again so do I.

  6. Nothing on there that really scratches my itches, although enough people have recommended Jason Isbell that I might check him out. Aside from that, I hope a million people go and have all the fun and drink all the beers, but my summer concert money and days off will be spent elsewhere.

I think Toronto lawns will be part of Live Nation's annual "$20 concerts at Ontario Place" thing.  If so, I'll be down with that.

I think last time I snagged a pair of 200s for $25 total, or thereabouts. I seem to recall having the pick of the pavilion for that price, aside from the pit. Granted this was PBD (Pre-Baker’s Dozen).

  8. Toronto is the only realistic show for me and I didn’t even bother with PTBM or the onsale date. Last time there were tons of great tickets floating around for wicked cheap (although, yeah, ultimately I drove from Ottawa to Toronto to hug three people in a parking lot and then not see a concert) so I didn’t feel compelled to make a mad dash at onsale. And if I get burned because of it, well then hooray that so many people are enjoying this band again!
