  1. Countless violations made by cyclists, sure. But you would also see countless violations made by drivers if you were looking for them: speeding, illegal lane changes, turning without looking for bikes, etc. Drivers love to point out the flaws in the way cyclists ride, but let he who is without sin cast the first stone. As for cyclists on the sidewalk, that is generally uncool, but does not warrant the wrath of angry drivers.
  2. Putting the tragedy of the death aside for a second (though not to belittle it in any way), it will be too bad if it turns out that this cyclist was a drunk hothead who liked to stir things up. That will only add fuel to the fire for ignorant drivers who think that all cyclists are dangerous nuisances who should not be on the road. The opportunity for intelligent discourse on the subject will be largely diminished, in my opinion.
  3. Scalpers bank on taking losses from time to time. The money he lost on your Van Halen ticket, he passed on to someone else buying a ticket for a more expensive show. Buying a ticket for under face is hardly sticking it to a scalper, unless they are mistakenly selling something for cheap. Seeing them go home with cardboard in their pockets, now that is sticking it to a scalper. That having been said, I can't exactly say I've never taken advantage of a last-minute deal on the sidewalk outside of a venue.
  4. Does anyone else find the picture in KK's post horrendous? "Photographers" ambivalently jockeying for position to get the shot of a man's cold dead body? Then again, the fact that this thread had legs shows that there is a demand for what they feed us.
  5. Standing ovation, my friend. I have to go watch some Caged Wisdom, but this has been more fun than Bring Your Daughter to Work Day.
  6. It's not the pronounciation I was scared of.
  7. Loved it. Personal highlight for me was Halley's into Rock and Roll, but the place went absolutely ape for Harpua. Definitely the biggest Phish bustout I've ever seen, and you don't often see a crowd at any show explode like that. The encore was anti-climatic, but we were pretty wiped by then anyway. We were towards the back of the lower pavillion, Page side, and were glad to be inside. I love the SPAC lawn for mellower shows, but when they way oversell the place it's nice to have some space inside. At the end of the day, a little of everything that makes Phish shows great. Nice one.
  8. Well my summer didn't turn out nearly as Phishy as I had originally planned, but I'm pretty pumped to see the fellers do their thing in a venue that I freakin' love. Who else is in?
  9. Wow. If a contest run by a major automaker designed almost solely to create hype around one of their new projects and resulting in people spamming their friends' in-boxes with free advertising wasn't done completely objectively and on a level playing field, then I don't know who we can trust anymore. Jay, I know you would have done great things with that car, and I know that you didn't get a fair shot despite putting a ton of effort into this, but I don't think it's shocking that this marketing campaign contest wasn't done on the up and up.

  11. Sad, scary stuff. I heard Jessie Farrell on the news last night and she was incredibly shaken up, as would be expected.
  12. If your neighbour did the one in Hawaii, he's pretty hard core, as those are the world championships. And as for the giant crocodile, I'd almost rather deal with one reptile chasing me around than have two thousand people kicking me in the face as I try and swim:
  13. Pffff, that would be a light training day. Throw in a swim from Kingston to Toronto and you've got a deal. And lest anyone think this is turning me completely soft, I have mastered the art of going for long runs while nursing a screaming hangover.
  14. Thanks, Esau. It happens July 25, 2010 in Lake Placid, NY. Here's a pic of the swim from a couple of years ago (all those dots are the two thousand swimmers). Not a bad spot for a race:
