  1. Scary stuff, even more so given that she was apparently showing no signs of injury for a while after the accident. I've definitely noticed the same shift with skiing/boarding helmets is going on now that we saw with bike helmets starting around 15-20 years ago: Nobody wearing them > people wearing them and getting made fun of > increasingly common > not unusual > people not wearing them and getting made fun of. Helmets on ski slopes aren't yet as quite as ubiquitous as bike helmets are, but I would imagine we'll be there within five years.
  2. I think he was referring to the capacity of Alpine. Saying that if Alpine sells out, with its much higher capacity, then Darien probably will as well.
  3. Personally, I've made the conscious decision to stop using the term "brokers." We're talking about scalpers, plain and simple. Just because they happen to have an eBay account or know somebody at Ticketmaster does not make them any more respectable than the douchebag in the jean jacket standing outside the venue. The term "broker" only legitimizes them that much more.
  4. Would everyone please stop panicking.
  5. Lookin' good, Alpha Nerd. Did anyone else notice that the picture is named "Dudes in the Front Row"?
  6. Shawarma Palace at the corner of Rideau and Augusta. The best falafel I've had in Ottawa.

It falls a little short when the obvious comparisons to Bonnaroo are made, but I personally think the site and weather help to close that gap significantly. It's not the lineup I was hoping would coax me back there, but there are some hidden gems in there that could make the trip worthwhile. Official Site
  8. I would bet that once the West Coast dates are announced, and people's summer ticket trades to or don't happen, there will be a lot of extras floating around. Deer Creek will obviously be in high demand, but I don't think it will be too hard to find.
  9. I heard from a friend in NYC who has never been wrong before that at least the first Clapton date is correct.
  10. The Shelburne Museum is a goregous venue. Just a big lawn with ample room and killer views. The Adirondacks are a pristine wilderness, so any venue with views of them is going to be pretty special. Plus, it's right on the outskirts of Burlington, which is always a great stop. Now that I think about it, my favourite Hip show was in Vermont - Bolton Valley Ski Area in the summer of 2000.
  11. Also for Question 2: Tiiu (sultry alt-country songstress originally from the Ottawa Valley: Link)
  12. Question 1: Doc Watson YMSB Brett Dennen Gibson Brothers (maybe more of a Question 2 band) Railroad Earth Question 2: David Myles The Fugitives
  13. SPAC is definitely not closed down, and personally I think it's a great venue. Possibly the site of the last decent multi-night Phish run (before last weekend, that is). I'm definitely biased, though, given its proximity to my sometimes home base of Lake Placid. Getting in and out can be a biotch, but I've found that if you get off the Interstate a couple of exits early and go at the park from the side it's not too tough on either end of a show.
  14. So, let's see. $1.2 million, and 194 arrests works out to an average of $6185.57 seized in each bust. Perhaps a more appropriate headline would have been "Cops Arrest Two Hundred People With Backpacks Full of Heroin and Faberge Eggs."
  15. So the video I posted above was from the Island Tour (sorry if that confused anyone). Here's one from tonight though, taken inside the belly of the beast. Anyone think these folks were having a good time?
  16. If there weren't so many good vibes in this thread right now, I would post a video of the Coventry Glide to try and prove you wrong!
  17. No problem, fellers. It's a favourite of mine, from the third night of the Island Tour. I'm hoping tonight's encore will give us an even better one.
  18. Hard to imagine the energy in that place during Tweeprize. I might have a replacement for my favourite Phish vid on YouTube (this one is from the Island Tour):

  20. Quite the emotional trio there starting with "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." Can't wait to hear this.
