  2. Jay - what time does GTB go on? I gotta try to make friends bday party same night and I want to go there first, the GTB. thanks.
  3. looking forward to Toronto show. Very glad to hear GTB are still making music. Hugely underrated Canadian band.
  4. I thought it was an amazing show last night. Much better than the 1st time. Go figure 2 years worth of touring but man what a concert.
  5. Pointing out the ridiculous cost of concert tickets is still valid.
  6. got those backstage passes for the Beacon show 03/16, a big thanks to Hook Herrera for 'hooking' us up. check out Hook with the band here last Sunday (03/25) Unfortunately Greg missed the show due to illness but they soldiered on without him. It was a very much a dream come true for me to watch the ABB from side stage, and at the Beacon no less. I didn't think it would have the impact it did but standing up there was incredible. Said hello to some of the guys, Nels Cline was one of the guests and they did a great Dreams with him. I doubt I'd make the Scranton fest, Wanee north indeed. but apparently there might be some touring this summer.
  7. it was Dan Mangan and it was good. Zeus were also really good. Eight and a Half were a total pile of horseshit. Synth bass, whispy bs vocals and drums. Boring band with shitty shitty songs. Shouldn't have left the rehearsal space.
  8. hitting the Beacon next weekend, might have backstage passes for Friday night thanks to friend.
  9. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU vikileaks. More please. The utter douchebaggery and hypocrisy is so purely Conservative. Like claiming to work hard against gun crime on the same day you kill a gun registry that police forces access 14 000 times a day. Wow! Did they actually just say that without realizing how fuckin ridiculous it sounds! or better, claiming that opposition to the Gateway Pipline is driven by ideology and not facts! That doesn't sound anything like the Conservatives who create all policy based on facts - did someone say crime bill? So Vic, what was that bit about legal obligation to spouses after termination of marriage? Never trust someone who won't take their own advice...course this is the Minister of Justice. You'd think the guy responsible for JUSTICE might want to have a bit more CREDIBILITY on certain issues. Like paying his alimony and not telling his lawyer "I have no intention of paying her anymore money" But really the blame here lies with ever single prick who voted for the Conservatives. Do us all a favour next election: STAY THE FUCK HOME AND PUNCH YOURSELF REPEATEDLY IN THE BALLS FOR PUTTING US THROUGH THIS BULLSHIT.
  10. The Union: The Business Behind Getting High The BEST documentary on marijuana I have ever seen (I've seen 3). Very well put together and lays out clearly why the arguments for the continued prohibition of marijuana is ridiculous. Absolutely credible and by the end, entirely frustrating. I highly (ha!) recommend it. its on netflix.
  11. wow, what a show. I agree I have never heard him talk that much, from any shows I've ever heard. Despite those annoying clicks, really incredible. And despite minimal audience talking back, I thought everyone was pretty respectful, at least up in the mess and balc. (and except for Napalm Death guy) great set list. hope a recording of this show finds its way online.
  12. hoping there will be tour to support album.
  13. When I was there' date=' we were given a packet/kit which contained numerous treats and what not, but also included a list of all the entered strains (herb/hash), the coffee shop that entered them and their location(s) (eg: address). As well, it list all coffee shops you could vote for (best atmosphere etc) and all the halls where the speakers/bands/celebs were going be, plus a ton of other helpful info like the location of both daily 420s (usually had a band and speaker). Basically, a guide/program/judges list/coffee shop address book etc. Only way I was able to make a somewhat informed vote was to try something new each morning - take notes (smell, taste, type of buzz etc), then I'd go for a walk check out the sights and when it wore off, I'd try something else and repeat the process for the day until dinner. Evenings, I never tried to keep notes or track of what I was smoking (unless it really stood out). I basically made my choices in the first 3 or 4 days. After that, I just bought what I enjoyed the best (temple ball/dutch star), partied and waited for voting day. Although, I was there solo, so I didn't have many distractions. Everyone who buys a ticket is a judge, but not everyone actively keeps track of what they smoke or even votes. But really, it's not that hard to do. [/quote'] I was thinking the same thing. The one and only time I was in Amsterdam the stuff I smoked was so much better than what I was used to I was blitzed for hours. Trying to judge the best weed in the world on a daily basis? worth a try I suppose. Can't wait for the updates.
  14. Jay - that's a pretty decent size place for NYC - whereabouts is it? If I don't make it out Saturday, good luck, kick ass in NY and I will be in touch whenever I'm in town (my bro lives in Brooklyn). peace, jm.
  15. got a decent pair for Toronto. Pretty much where I wanted for the price, 100 level, near centre (relative to stage) at $100 each. I got selected for all of the pre-sales that I had signed up for and the Toronto seats offered were $250 each plus plus plus. I laughed. Nothing like gouging the shit out of your fans during these boom times we're in.
  16. Did you ever see the 2004(?) Dickey Betts & Great Southern concert from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on HD-Net? It was shockingly bad. They sounded like a below average Allmans cover band and Betts's guitar couldn't keep up with most of the songs; Betts's playing was excruciatingly sloppy and he got seriously outplayed by Dan Toler and his son Duane. No, but I saw a show on that tour at States Theatre in Virginia and it was exactly as you described. Dickey was at least a half step behind the entire band for the entire night, playing solos completely out of time and flubbing changes. It was really awkward and weird and depressing especially compared to the Dickey of the mid-to-late 90's where he was on top of his game with the reformed Allmans. His crappy playing of the 2000's is the only reason I don't bother with Dickey and Great Southern shows. The last few Allmans shows I saw (2010) demonstrated a slight shift towards Derek leading the band more than Warren, which actually sounded fitting as he was, to my ears, the one playing with the most care/passion. I suspect they have at most 2 more years left in them before Greg really, really can't handle it anymore. But after 40 years of ups and down, who knows, maybe the road goes on forever.
  17. Point taken regarding Jessica and Liz Reed. For a second there you had me thinking Dickey had died using the word "demise" but I realize you meant in regard to his career and playing. I can't help but thinking (speculating) that his playing suffered so greatly in the last 10 years due to alcohol. Is it just me or aren't we taught in Rock n' Roll mythology that alcohol and drugs improves ones playing?
  18. thanks Jaimoe, I needed that. Couldn't agree more with Derek on his comments regarding Blue Sky, I think Duane's solo on the song is one of the best recorded guitar solos of all time. I'm very glad he didn't mention Midnight Rider, which to be fair is a good tune, but holy fuck is it ever overplayed (and overplayed and overplayed and overplayed). Enough already. I think the not mentioning Dickey so much has to do the subject being Duane's passing in 1971 and the legacy he left behind.
  19. Tim Bradford & the Bandits, Badly Bent, Jamie Oliver, Jerry Leger, Eamon McGrath, Tim Armour, Mike Brennan, Burke Carroll, Kristin Cavoukian, Ryan Bishops Admission: $10 Where: Dakota Tavern, 249 Ossington, Toronto 416-850-4579, thedakotatavern.com When: Nov 5 I gotta admit the only name on that list I recognize is Burke Carroll, Justin Rutledge's (and countless others) pedal steel player. But as a huge GP fan I'm hitting this tonight to celebrate his life and music - its his birthday today (or would have been his bday).
  20. I thought it was a great show. About 2.5 hours long by my count and without a set break. Instead, at about 1.5 hours, we got an extended Oteil bass solo, into double drummer solo. Around this time it actually started to feel more like an Allman Brothers show. Susan Tedeschi is just such a killer singer. With Derek's playing and her singing, you really have quite the amazing duo. The crowd was way more appreciative and responsive than I expected. Some guy behind me was periodically yelling "Blues Power!" throughout the night. Some songs definitely work out better, and come across better than others but the variety and blending of styles make them really engaging. One of the better shows for me so far this year.
  21. In. hitting old nick before. hoping to figure out openers and set times this aft.
  22. thank you for the review, I missed both shows though I would have gone to Rich's as my first choice. Interesting that they both worked Crows material into the show, as other than a teaser Soul Singing during Rich's last Lee's show, I've never see either do Crowes while playing solo. Maybe I'm not remembering Chris' sets accurately though, I saw way more of them during their respective previous jaunts.
  23. Maybe this is a dumb question but does anyone know if RA or PaxAm would cross check fan club pre sale tickets to see if you were actually a valid "member" of said club? Also, Fan club is 10 am and Live Nation is 12pm.
  24. Amazing. So fuckin amazing. pre-sale password please......and thank you.
  25. Just think, 4 more years of Conservative Majority! Finally nothing to constrain Stephen Harper! I can't wait to see what Canada looks like when he's done with it! (as he so confidently declared 10 years ago) YAY PARLIAMENTARY DEMOCRACY! Enjoy!
