The date that Toronto goes from hibernation to Motivation! Collective Concerts presents this special night that’s sure to get the city warmed up and jolt it from the winter blues. [color:blue]The Soul Motivators Celebrate their second year of being a 9-piece deep funk explosion by headlining their first show at The Legendary Horseshoe Tavern. These eight soul brothas – and one soul sista – have had a great couple years; CD and vinyl releases, regular rotation on CBC, club and festival dates across Ontario and Quebec and opening spots for some legendary acts such as Bernie Worrell, Afrika Bambaataa and Lee Fields. Also joining the celebrations; The Heavyweights Brass Band Blend the rich legacy of New Orleans jazz with modern funk, RnB and Latin for a high-energy live experience that pulls no punches. Since their formation in 2011 these guys have released two albums, headlined Toronto’s famed Koerner Hall and opened for such contemporary greats as Hypnotic Brass Band and Trombone Shorty. The Julian Taylor Band Plays “baby-making music†– soul-driven pop-rock inspired by The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and Bill Withers. Mr. Taylor is veteran of the Canadian music scene with seven albums, ten top-forty singles and a wealth of high-profile live shows to his name. What began as a passionate hobby for him, eventually became a career. He's now ben working as a professional musician for over ten years. Abs has worked with many celebrated local musicians (DJ Fase, D-Sisive, Elizabeth Shepherd, Ivana Santilli, etc.), as well as many internationally acclaimed artists (the UK's DJ Format, Chali 2na and Cut Chemist from Jurrasic 5, Gift of Gab from Blackalicious, Kurtis Blow, Young Einstein from Ugly Duckling etc.). He's released three albums, both locally and internationally... "Flowtoation Device" (2001/PIAS), "Escape From The Pigeon Hole" (2007/Do Right! Music), and "Sitting Music" (2012/Pinwheel Music). The song "Pedal Pusher" (from "Escape From The Pigeon Hole") won the 2007 SOCAN ECHO songwriting prize for the best Canadian song of the year. And Abs co-hosted the annual SOCAN awards in both 2008 and 2011. He is also featured prominently on DJ Format's two highly succesful albums, "Music For The Mature B-Boy" (2003) and "If You Can't Join 'Em...Beat 'Em (2005). Fresh from a killer performance at this year's Bonaroo Music Festival, Los Angeles funk and soul band Orgone return to town with Toronto's The Soul Motivators. Orgone appeared on Cee Lo Green's 2011 song "Fool For Love" as well as recordings by Alicia Keys and others. Members of the band have also played with Booker T Jones, Macy Grey, Bun B and more.
