    bake sale ideas

thanks everybody! in the end i went for the old standard [brownies] because it's the only thing i've made before. not surprisingly, i actually screwed up the first batch. rice krispies were my first choice but someone made them the day before. our bake sale did very well! $170 over four after-schools. and that, my friends, is meggo's bake sale experience.
  2. happy birthday yesterday! you guys hafta come over soon with all your pics!
  3. heehee.. junior boys was one of the funniest shows i have seen. but i don't think it was supposed to be funny... ?

    I am so sad

aww.. [sad smiley] my folks put our dog to sleep at the end of june... it was definitely one of the crappiest feelings i have ever had. although it's not much time, make the most of what you have left with your pal. i wasn't able to be there to say a 'proper' good bye and that still hurts like crazy. i have to say i think i'm a bit looney for how attached i was to my dog, but that's that. i'll tell patches to meet your doggie when he gets there. *hugs*

    bake sale ideas

so, next week i have a group of students doing bake sales all week to raise money for a trip we're taking in the spring. i am in charge of supervising two of the bake sale days, and i'm expected to bring something to sell. thing is, i don't really bake much. anyone have some tasty baking ideas which are relatively simple and would appeal to teenagers?
  7. that is my favourite hot sauce. where do you get it?
  8. gayonaise? do you want a detention RD?
  9. ooo! maybe we should have a new-national-anthem-writing contest.
  10. freeker have you had any luck yet?
  11. fair enough! and thanks for helping me out. my brain was extra-tired today.
  12. not to say that he didn't end up "evil," but charles manson did have a really shitty childhood. he may not have been born so nasty. and i am in no way defending what he did. i don't really understand the "it's just a word" argument. i use the following example because of a disturbing "discussion" i had with some grade 11 students today - how about the word "fag"? or "homo"? or "that's so gay"? those may be just words, but they certainly hurt people.
  13. sooo... when's the voting get done??
  14. thanks! they also have a list of "key issues" on their homepage - but it too is vague ["crime, health, accountability, lower taxes, childcare"]. i imagine those are their election points?
  15. anyone want to read this and summarize?
  16. okay this is serious business! no tongue in cheek answers please. i'm putting together my lesson for this afternoon's civics class. we're going to start looking at 'policies and platforms.' i think we'll look at the conservatives since they're our government [for now! ]. who can give me 4 - 5 conservative policies? i could look on the website but i find it vague, and i could sit and think about it but i don't really have time. we're going to draw a big platform suitcase with all the policies inside. thanks!

    chavez re-elected

yeah, i agree some of the rhetoric is entertaining. and the stuff about solar energy is great news! i'm just not completely convinced one way or the other about him. i definitely like to see latin america having a leader who seems to be looking out for the poor, since there are so many of them and they have been almost completely neglected by most of the leaders they've had. there just seem to be some rumblings here and there of authoritarianism... or, maybe that's just me becoming jaded by western media.
  18. with 78% of voting stations reporting, chavez had 61% to his opponent Manuel Rosales' 38%. while i like some things he's done socially [subsidized food, free university education and support for single mothers], i have to say his rhetoric is a little bit much. also making me uneasy is his proposal to amend the constitution, getting rid of presidential term limits. eek.
  19. that sounds rather painful...
  20. ooo! i would like to recommend guru.
  21. ha.. i show that kim campbell movie in my civics classes. it's gone missing this year though.... seems someone in the department wants to have kim all to themself!
  22. happy birthdays! team jordave-o rules
