  1. At the outset, I felt like the lineup was a little wacky. Kind of a mish-mash of stuff i used to like, or wasn't really listening to currently, but with some bands i hadn't seen- or hadn't seen in a while. The lowered expectations coupled with amazing mainstage preformances made this one of my favourite Festivals yet.

    Highlights:

-Arcade Fire, they deserve all their attention- seeing a group so inspired to preform their material can't help but give you goosebumps.

-Furthur, beautiful night with great friends, awesome setlist and playing.. wheee

-Derek Trucks/Tedeschi - wow!! Hadn't heard the band going in, and was totally into this from start to finish. Oteil up close was a trrweat

-Weezer, kicked my ass. Awesome singalong

-Andrew Bird, amazing music and coolest rotating speaker I've ever seen.

    -Levon/Rush- interesting 1-2 punch

-Bassekou kouyate & Ngoni Ba (awesome despite tent)

    Lowlights:

-No proper Black Sheep/ Eff that tent- it felt like an awkward conference with smokey lights and too loud music

    -Iron Maiden. Iron Meh.den.

    -no king cans :(

    -random fences blocking walkways

All n all a grreat time. Awesome to see everyone... and now to lose this 5 pounds of beer fat!! so soft.

  2. Weird- I found that Ottawa Bluesfest had mostly non-existant security; from my non-criminal point of view. And I thought it was tremendously well-run.

Also Luke, I didn't want to upset you because you seemed so convinced at the show- but Steve Winwood was DEFINITELY never in REO Speedwagon.

  3. Arcade Fire will probably go down as the most powerful/moving set of my festival experience- but holy shit was Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi's band out of control-awesome.

Not often you get to see players like that in Ottawa, let alone on such an intimate stage. Initially the crowd was overrun with lawnchair people, but by mid-set almost everyone was on their feet- I recognized only a couple tunes they played and I almost danced it was so good.

I think they may have been especially 'on' tonight judging by some of the smiles they exchanged....and how about Oteil's solo towards the end. good golly. :dazed:

    i liked woodhands too

  4. I'm sure there are stresses and stuff, but many writers would eat their favourite moleskine for the opportunity and access you have. PLUS you don't have to go to work 8-9 hours a day? Safe haven- Like a hotel?!? jeez man.

With your knowledge of music, handle on the English Language and tendency to get into the thick of a concert experience- this should be enjoyable as hell!!

take a nap and write it out!

  5. I'd reccommend hooping your favourite beverage. Definitley worth it to save the money.

    :chug:

Def. no cans around this time. But they are also not patting down. If you buy there- make sure your beer is cold before you walk away! I had some pretty warm organic last night.

  6. I found the set fell a little bit short of 'bananas'... in fact- I thought it was pretty sleepy, disjointed and boring. I guess the highlight would've been the 'imagine' cover with vocalist Christina Train, but even that felt really drawn out. The Headhunters stuff was okay, but not really funky at all.

Apparently the night before was Herbie's birthday show at Carnegie Hall, so maybe thats why the set felt a little hung-over.

I also didn't realize the bronze pass worked for Frisell at the NAC, so I felt like an idiot missing one of my favourite guitarists.

  7. hmm. That waits tune is from 'rain dogs' eh? 'Look out Cleveland' is from the Brown Album.. It kind of seems like they are covering tunes from the other candidate records for the Halloween musical costume...

    Phish is fun.
