  1. Pretty lame on Microsoft's part to pull XP off the shelves so buyers have to purchase Vista...

If having a functional PC is all you need and don't have to have the pretty buttons and extra crap go with Windows 98-SE or XP...save yourselves the headaches...

    Or buy a Mac... ;)

  2. In my opinion Dion dropped the ball upon immediately becoming head of the Liberal Party. As I've said in other topics, it would have been in his best interest to do exactly what Iggy is doing now...rolling up his sleeves and doing the "town hall" thing across Canada; to give people insight to who he is and listen to their concerns; to rebuild peoples' faith in politics and the Liberal Party after the "Scandal"...Dion took over a party that was opposition to a Minority government which meant that sooner than later an election would happen and the Conservatives would be looking for a majority government...Dion should have started his campaign the minute he became leader but he didn't...

So far Iggy seems to be on the right path and I hope for the Liberal Party and our country's sake that he continues on this path...

  3. These strikes are happening during a global and local economic crisis which is seeing hundreds and thousands of Canadians losing their jobs or having their hours cut back.

These unstable times require calm and rational thinking from all involved and to reach an agreement that can be re-negotiated at a time when the economy becomes stable.

The York strike is unbelievable. Not only do the TA's receive, what I and many consider to be a nice pay cheque for 10 hours a week, but they also are receiving free tuition for their grad studies.

Very glad that I don't have to deal with these kinds of situations but it's still frustrating to read about those who do.

  4. Interesting article as it shows another view to the situation...also interesting to see that not a single comment was in support of the strike but who's to say what comments are getting posted and what ones are getting flagged...

With Flaherty's latest announcement that there will be huge numbers of jobs lost this year in Canada, it's not an oppurtune time for any union to strike as public support will be minimal, if at all...

  5. For those who may be interested John Moore is a very talented singer/songwriter who has recently relocated to Toronto from Maui (yah, I know, WTF???) and has been steadily grabbing people's attention with his songs and new CD which was recorded at Crunch Recording where I work.

John's vocals conjure up images of Nick Drake, Dave Matthews, Jack Johnson and various other performers while also having a unique quality that is only getting stronger.

Kevin & Garth Breit guest on many of the songs on the CD and Drop Back Down is sure to grab many listeners...

  6. I think I am going to get Laser eye surgery. Has anyone had laser eye surgery or have any tips or information on the surgery.

    For what it's worth here's a tip...

DON'T CLOSE YOUR EYES OR BLINK WHEN THE LASER IS ON!!! ;)

This is still relatively "new surgery" and long-term effects haven't had time to surface which will be discovered in time.

Your eyes, your vision, your decision...remember how cool Elton John was back in the day!!! ;)

  7. For those who haven't stumbled upon this gem which has been re-released with Bambu (The Caribou Sessions) I highly recommend picking this up...by the end of the CDs the question that will be forefront in your mind will be wondering which Wilson brother was the musical genius, Brian or Dennis...

Bambu is incredible... beautiful compositions that reveal a truly tortured soul which left us far too soon...you'll find yourself hearing similarities with Pink Floyd if you can imagine that...the closing track "Holy Man" with Taylor Hawkins adding vocals is simply amazing...

  8. I have lived in both Ottawa and toronto and I disagree can'o'phish. The ttc is much better than Ottawa's transit system in my opinion. It's not the drivers fault but when I lived and worked in ottawa a 10 minute drive would take me 2 buses and 50 minutes to get to work by transit. In toronto a 15 minute drive takes me 10-20 minutes by transit.

Sorry, I wasn't referring to "commute time"; I was referring to general mood on the TTC, which I've found borderline hostile many times, both passengers & drivers...many times I would exit before my stop so I wouldn't have to listen to people arguing, yelling, pushing or just snarling...

Unless the snow is really coming down I'm on my bike and only use my car once or twice a week...and my commute time is always quicker :content:

  9. I've realized in reading many comments on the interweb that the citizens of this city already hate us.

I have also realized there are alot of stupid people in this city in regards to comments made on facebook groups and news websites.

As for the Bell Cup and the IIHF Junior Championships, I'm sure hotels will come up with ideas to keep people in the city. There are plenty of bus companies out there that will be more than willing to offer there services I'm sure.

I don't live in Ottawa but I don't think that the citizens "hate you"...they're pissed because at one of the busiest times of the year when the weather is at it's worst, there is no public transit...it's crazy enough when the holidays hit and to throw a strike into the works just creates animosity towards the majority who probably weren't hell bent for a strike in the first place.

I was at a friend's place for dinner last night and he is a supervisor at The Beer Store with union workers under him who haven't had a strike in years. Different structure as it's provincial-wide but they do their best to keep their employees happy and secure despite the ever-changing economy.

I wouldn't want to be a driver when the strike finishes as I'm sure there'll be many ignorant folk who will say some nasties to the drivers...so kick 'em off when they spew forth their crap!

I seldom take the TTC anymore as the environment is usually very unpleasant. Toronto is so far behind cities such as Ottawa and Montreal for public transit, snow removal, highway maintenance, etc...and it's not getting better...man, the potholes on some of the roads can swallow a small car! ;)

  10. And Ollie' date=' do you ever have anything to say that amounts to more than a one-liner? No sarcasm in that statement, rather frustration at a discourse that doesn't focus on the issues, more the ego's involved in shaping those issues.[/quote']

Knew you'd say that. Thanks for working on your brevity though.

hee hee hee hee heeeeeee hawwwwww

  11. All good points AD.

Yes, of course, adults & children have a right to change their minds, free will and all of that good stuff...

But it's hard to ignore what has just transpired after Harper prorogued Parliament because he knew he would have lost confidence...he's TCOB as fast as he can as one can only assume at this point that the coalition is still in place and will shred apart whatever the Cons offer on January 27th.

And again, instead of tackling the bigger issue of the crumbling economy, Harper appointed 18 senate seats at $130,400 each...that must be comforting to the folks who are being laid off and losing their jobs...and yes, it's better to have an engine firing on all cylinders but when there is no car to power because it has been put out to pasture for 8 weeks while the body crumbles, what's the point???

At the time the general population were more likely to vote in a majority Conservative party than have Dion at the helm of a coalition supported by the Bloc Harper chose to prorogue Parliament and hang on for another couple of months...how much more damage can be done as even though he is within all legal means to do what he's done it has created further mistrust of a non-functioning government...

  12. Stevie is trying to fix it.... I mean can anyone here argue why we SHOULDN'T have an elected senate?

Ahhh, don't know about you but none of these folks were "elected"...they were appointed by "L'il Stevie Wonder" who did an abrupt 180 degree switch against his previous stance of "electing" the senate...did you miss that???

He also did this at a time when he prorogued Parliament because it's the only way he could have made this happen but during a time when a "responsible government" should be trying to run the country, not shatter it further.

I'm not against the Cons but Harper, IMHO, is a FUKWAD EXTRODINAIRE!!!

If he continues down this road he will be out on his ass after January 27th.

My thoughts are that when Harper and the GG had their little chat and she asked all to leave except Stevie she told him that if he lost confidence in January and a coalition was ready to step in she would consider this as a viable option as spending another $300 Million during this economic crisis would further anger Canadians...but that's just a guess...

  13. Harper must go. What a douche.

This could be seen as a sign that Harper knows his days are numbered as he once again is taking a 180 degree change in direction on his own statements.

He is a douche. During a time when the economy is collapsing and our country is struggling he has acted like a coward and has only looked at what he could do for himself and his party...screw the rest of Canada...
