  1. that "spahn movie ranch" sign is new right?! i'm sure i've never noticed that before...the charles manson reference is hilarious for this place.... edit to add: it's "killing" me...nyuk nyuk nyuk
  2. just finished watching EP. 1 - guadalcanal and i got to say wow! so far i really like the way this miniseries is going. it doesn't seem to be pulling punches in terms of brutality on both sides and the action is intense! (as you would expect from the team that brought war movies to a new level). i wish there were more of those scenes with the real veterans talking about their experiences. didn't BoB have more of that, or am i confusing it with (maybe) the ken burns "war" series? i'm totally pumped to see the rest of this and would love to say more but maybe spoiler rules should be established for the thread. proposal:if you haven't seen the week's EP yet stay away from the thread till you have? i really liked the closing scene(s) with the scavenging from japanese dead (reminded me of clint's movies on this topic)juxtaposed with the letter reading scene....oh and what's up with 4:30 of closing credits? i was checkin bar on my VLC and thinkin cool! i got another 5 minutes of action! burn! hehe...
  3. http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2010/03/shanghai_prepares_for_expo_201.html from bigpicture.com: Construction workers and organizers in Shanghai, China are busily completing tasks ahead of the planned opening of the 2010 World Expo on May 1st - planned to be the largest World Expo in history. The theme of the Expo is "Better City, Better Life", and is scheduled to run until October 31, 2010. In recent months, large construction and renovation projects have dominated much of Shanghai, in preparation for becoming the World's stage on May 1st. Up to 800,000 visitors are expected each day - a total of 70 million visitors in all visiting exhibitions from nearly 200 participants around the world. Collected here are several recent photos from Shanghai as construction nears completion for the Expo 2010. (31 photos total) very! trippy architecture...the seed cathedral especially! but the funnel/solar structure thingy is pretty cool too...
  4. holy chit with the high brow references! "shut up brain! or i'll stab you with a Q-tip!" -homer j. simpson "jane....you magnificently ignorant slut..."( ) -dan ackroyd 1979"dave's not here" -tommy chong
  5. from the wiki: The Pacific is based primarily on two memoirs of U.S. Marines: With the Old Breed by Eugene Sledge and Helmet for My Pillow by Robert Leckie.[3] The series will tell the stories of the two authors and Marine John Basilone, as the war against the Empire of Japan rages. It also draws on Sledge's China Marine[28] and Red Blood, Black Sand,[29] the memoir of Chuck Tatum, a Marine who fought alongside Basilone at Iwo Jima and witnessed his death. [30] The series will feature well-known battles involving the 1st Marine Division, such as Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester, Peleliu, and Okinawa, as well as Basilone's involvement in the Battle of Iwo Jima. Hugh Ambrose has authored the official tie-in book to the series[31], which follows the stories of the three men featured in the series as well as stories of their fellow Marines. It is set to publish in the US and UK in March 2010. STOKED! band of brothers and before it; saving private ryan were amazing. can't wait to watch this new series! edit to add: did anyone see Hanks on Colbert the other night? i actually agree with some of Colberts premise about Hank's having the legitimacy of "history maker". http://watch.thecomedynetwork.ca/the-colbert-report/full-episodes/#clip275878 pt 2 (with preview of pacific)is here: http://watch.thecomedynetwork.ca/the-colbert-report/full-episodes/#clip275878
  6. let me know when i can expect my royalty cheque
  7. hilarious! i was scared for a sec there though...
  8. [color:purple]http://btjunkie.org/torrent/Phish-12-31-1999-quot-Project-Midnight-Sunrise-quot-Big-Cypress-FL-NTSC/8564a16fd67df0f088827f5af721340cb4f680467fff sorry folks! couldn't resist hehehe (you'll need to sign up to DL if you do decide that this version will have to do.)
  9. bwahaha! i believe i'm familiar with that mix! machine gun music is a pretty apt description too. i was never too much of a fan of MC's (too many "who wants a re-wind"s for me) but i was very stoked to find the Roni Size vs Brian Gee at Utopia mix on there! EPIC night of jungle, there were like 3! MCs (warren g, GQ? and debo general?)going hard with some highlarious junglisms! and i believe only 1! rewind the whole set. "this one's going out to the hard lane massive for all who can handle tha pace!all others the soft shouldah's over there...PULL OVAH!" "i'm a gonna make you hot....i'm a gonna make you wet ....WAIT!" and the ever popular: "WHO'S GOT A LIGHTA?!!!"......oh...my.....gosh! hawhawhaw LOVE IT!
  10. tbh, i spent a majority of my time at these parties in the jungle rooms so my house techno recommendations may not be as reliable as others, but all these seems to be streaming so it's pretty easy to click through and find something you like. having said that; i recall seeing dj dan and vitamin d a few times and enjoying it quite a bit. outside of that site (since i don't see any of his mixes BOO!)i would say searching out live mark farina mixes is WELL worth the effort. he played a Valentines show (Bittersweet maybe?) in TO ('99,2000?) that was amazing! STRONG flashback's of him mixing in both fleetwood mac and paul simon (graceland) in his set! three levels of dancefloors with balconies overlooking the main floor, a good crew of friends in attendance,VERY booty shaking stuff that unfortunately i've never found a recording of.
  11. **apologies to anyone who actually was already on/or DID join Phish tour IMMEDIATELY after jerry died** hehe :chug: :chug: :chug: :bonghit: :bonghit:
  12. for those who remember the glory days of toronto warehouse parties. i actually had brain sparks reading names of DJ's i remember seeing and crazy adventures rolling in some of T-dots shadier "structures". http://torontoravemixtapearchive.com/index.html anyone have any crazy lazer filled rave adventures/stories to share? "this on goes out to stevie 'ipah deeeeeeeee!...........REWIND!" hahaha ! i think some of my memory loss returned with finding this ^ site....serious flashbacks! listening to roni size vs dj die from utopia EPIC! all sweaty room, wrapped in black plastic with a HUGE! stack of bass bins and 1 (maybe?2) red lasers? enjoy... ...and yes i know this is a jamband site...but some of us didn't IMMEDIATELY jump on phish tour after jerry died hehe...i dabbled in what i now refer to as a brief 70's "disco" phase...anyone else want to confess?
  13. that's a pretty good tune! you're right; he has a real Jagger thing going on there. SOA is an awesome show and only gets better in the second season, with Henry Rollins as a new bad-ass to deal with. my only complaint about the show would be a couple "a-team" type moments with mad gun battles that seem to leave no one dead.
  14. thanks for such a great read! i'm glad that you guys had such a blast out here. sorry i missed you guys at the lounge. i'm not sure how to embed (can someone please sticky a thread with instructions how to do this here for us less savvy folks?) but this video is pretty cool. http://www.youtube.com/watch#!videos=2Ht-2HpPGJA&v=8VMxt-MqTiI shot from false creek with only the onboard mic. fast forward to about 1:00 and enjoy the sweet sounds of victory in vancouver!
  15. am i the only one waiting for the "final" installment of this thread? my day at the vapour lounge was insane! downtown was off the hook... :chug: :bonghit: :chug:
  16. :bonghit: yeah the vapour lounge is on the 3rd floor of Emery's store on E. Hastings...atairs to the left of the amsterdam cafe. $5 to get in and a vapouriser on every table. HD big screen and pool tables...on recognising me: i'll be the one smoking the Purple Kush/Green Crack blend doobs...hehe comae on down and celebrate! Canada is Rockin'!!! btw: i've enjoyed reading about your adventures in town here!
  17. no but...if you like some of the "doodles" that have been revealed each day during the oylmpics (I DO! alot...especially theboarder and the bobsleigh) on the google homepage: http://www.google.com/logos/index.html it's interesting some of the ones done for other countries (cultures) that "we" never see. :bonghit:
  18. i'm stoked! the boys had a worrying 3rd peiod tonight but Lou came through with a HUGE save at the end. i'll be in Van downtown for the game on Sunday in a buddies apartment kitty-corner to Robson Square and after (hopefully) celebrating at the vapour lounge/BCMP-HQ if you want to come and party there... Emery rolled a couple ounce doob that replicated the olympic torch just for the torch run! it'll be crazy down there for the hockey game!
  19. as a Canadian; what a proud night! a DOMINANT canadian performance against russia > (does anyone know if this was live?) but THE best canadian athletic segue EVER! 1 and 2 in woman's two "man" bobsleigh > a silver in short track speed skating! have we ever felt so showered with glory as a country before? these are the sorts of canadian days that the Hip write songs about.....
  20. anyone catch the Kill Devil Falls during the break at the canada/us game tonight?
  21. i moved out here last summer and am currently living in Maple Ridge. i am down in Vancouver pretty much every weekend. like most other BCer's i am getting MY olympics via TV, but the excitement in the lower mainland is everywhere. i haven't even found getting around has been the chaos that was predicted. so far so good...
  22. VERY much agree with the comments regarding the singing of O Canada at the opening ceremonies. only the americans should be wacked enough to pop(ularise) their national anthem...i don't even like the comparison that that version invites. on a more LOL moment: the simpson's Ivan Reitman produced opener tonight was highlarious!
  23. omfg! this "first gold on canadian soil" thing is really bugging me now. Visa just premiered a new high tech commercial (obviously produced months ago) literally 2-3 hrs after the men's mogul finals; with the tagline: "congratulations Canada on winning your first gold medal on Canadian soil"......wtf! what if it hadn't happened? have these people never heard of jinxes?!! you don't mention a no-hitter to a pitcher on the way to winning one, and I for one am sick of some of the "tone" of the CTV coverage. you could have played a pretty devestating drinking game with the # of times it was mentioned! their coverage itself is pretty comprehensive but for whatever reason i find most of the commentary brutal...ugg i've also been flipping to the american coverage to watch some of the high tech toys that are being rolled out in the broadcast. LOVE the luge coveraage where they overlay multiple racers on the course to illustrate how fine the margins are. pretty cool!
  24. finally GOLD in the men's moguls...now maybe CTV can shut up with "no golds on canadian soil" mantra that they've been spouting
