  2. Good news is that you can all listen to Gerry rafferty records from the 80's and it will be like discovering the ultimate b sides to Quebec.
  3. A must see show for anyone wondering what the nero guitarist (me) sounds like without playing effects. Can he play? Questions answered for the low price of $30 and three hours of smooth music in your face. Hit after hit!
  4. I feel the total opposite. The last 3 before they called it quits are possibly my favourite records in all of music. Royal Scam, Aja, and Gaucho.
  5. Make sure you get there before 9 if you want a sandwich.
  6. For the record, PleasureCraft fans are known as "Tugboats"
  7. Hahaha! absolutely. We'll be starting before 9:30 for sure. 2 big sets. Death Cake is doing a 30min set at 9:40 Friday night.
  8. This weekend presents the most dramatic juxtaposition of my music life. Friday, catch Death Cake playing one super small set at Cafe Dekcuf with a handful of other bands. We play early. Then Saturday we switch gears to the smoothest of smooth rock with a full on Pleasure Craft show at Irene's. Two sets of our favourite Yacht Rock.\ The PleasureCraft show will sell out early, so come early! I hope to see some of you!
  9. It's a pretty dismal situation really. The entire guitar industry goes through as much Sitka spruce in a year as the average saw mill does in an 8 hour shift. The rate that this great sounding wood is evaporating at is astounding. All of those mentioned, plus others from other musical instrument makers are trying have a section forest set aside for them to be properly managed to ensure a future for high grade sitka srpuce in instrument manufacturing. Not sure how that's going.... It isn't like we haven't been down this road with so many woods and other resources. Sounds like an interesting movie!
  10. Coming up real soon! Really looking forward to this. Not surprising but this undertaking continues to prove to be the most challenging stuff I've ever learned on guitar. Good times!! Looking forward to sailing the seas of smooth next Saturday night! This is a 7 piece band btw.... and it's actually starting to sound like music.. lol
  11. I'd hate to face that kind of scrutiny every time I passed out at baggage claim.
  12. oh my god! someone from the grateful dead is getting fucked up! Shocking!
  13. Because it was only a matter of time.... Buy the Rob Ford Drug Tape Campaign
  14. Awful news. Lance was an absolute hero to the Ottawa music scene. He cared more about what was happening in his club wise than anyone else in town. I played my first bar gig at the whipping post. Lance gave us (bunch of kids who hardly knew what they were doing) a weekly residency where we really learned how to be a band and how to play and improvise. When we first started there would be one person in the bar and Lance would be adjusting lights to perfection and running the smoke machine... also doing sound and tending bar. lol I can't imagine how many musicians there are from the 90's that Lance had a hand in helping turn into life long musicians. Really it would be hard for me to think of any other establishment that played even close to as big a part. Sad news.
  15. What!? I went there one night and paid for maybe 7 draft beers. At those prices, that should have covered the rent for at least 6 months!
  16. That is my beloved Two Rock Kimock head. New cab as well. Two rock 2x12 with austin speakerworks kts-70. I'm beyond happy with it. Still have the Z but it isn't getting any play right now. I had a great time playing. It is always an overwhelming amount of work to try and do this and it often has varying levels of success. Of course we can't ever have the gel that comes with having just played 50 shows in a row, but I think we're all much better players these days. I guess it has been a decade since our "peak".
  17. Completely disagree. I think without labels being able to invest in something that could pay off more down the road, all we will be left with from the labels is nickelback type bands. I've thought for a while that music is now divided into two groups. It's like WWE wrestling and professional sports. We have music and music entertainment. More and more the only thing the established big labels can take any chance on is music entertainment.
  18. Hey, so it is on. nero @ Mevericks Oct 27, 2012 Halloween show. One night. Details to follow.
