  1. Now I KNOW what your thinking - Fri.13th in Dover is a biker bash! BUT- its also one hell of a party with a lot of good music...and its not just for bikers anymore; i think last year they got about 20,000 bikers and another 20,000 other folk who just came for the spectacle and the party... Anyway Marc Wilson Band will be at the Norfolk for a matinee and an evening performance, and the Shoeshine Boys (killer party blues band) are headlining at the beach stage. So if you've never been to Dover on a Friday the 13th, I definately reccomend this party!

and if you arn't to partied out on saturday, why not check out Diesel Dog at the Circus Room in Kitchener on the 14th?

    (shameless...no shame...)

  2. i can only speak for friday, cause we left saturday morning - but i have to say that friday left something to be desired, the crowd was very thin - i think most of them were vegetarians, and there was no live music untill about 11:30 - but oh well, everybody did their best (including the bands and the soud crew) so in the end we were still howling at the moon at 4:20am!

  3. this is sort of a take off from the-state-of-the-scene thread. I read in one of those posts that there is a community of 400+ people here! WOW! 400 dedicated live music fans - that kind of army could do some SERIOUS promoting. Take the upcoming CTMF this weekend, if everybody told 3 people to go go go maybe we could get 1200+ folks out to the party (and partys like that HELP the scene because they are Fun!) also, surely there must people who have connections - connections to magazine editors/local newspapers, to people who work at record companies, to people who intern at radio stations, to people who run other big websites that maybe arn't connected to this one yet. If you know somebody like that , use them for a plug! ask them to promote your favorite band or event! spread the word! personally I know somebody who works for a pretty succsesful Independant record company and i'm gonna do what I can to get him to come out and spend the weekend in Durham -maybe he'll hear something he likes!

  4. i did talk to mark and I know FOR SURE that august is a go - why the site isnt updated I have no idea. He booked Diesel Dog for the friday night, and he was trying to get Doug Feaver for that night too - i'm gonna give him a phone call and see if I can't get more info...

  5. this-is-a-just-in-case-you-were-misinformed-type-post :

I've been hearing some untrue rumours about the upcoming August long weekend CTF - so i'm gonna dispell them!

I talked with Mark Wilson and everything is a go - its not a biker thing, and its not some kinda members only thing - it just another outdoor festival with LOTS of great music. so seeya there!

  6. i quit this spring after a 10 year habit (started at age 16) the thing that made me quit is I suddenly realized that I could develop cancer in my thirties if I didn't stop. I developed this whole paranoid thing where I was sure I would die young - in other words I purposly scared myself shitless - there are lots of horror stories on the internet that you can read to help bring the paranoia on....the biggest thing I got out of it all (besides my breath back, and the dark circles under my eyes going away) was psychological endurance. you know determanation - that in turn gave me pride which gave more strength to keep on going. it was as healthy mentally for me as it was physically. then I went on a holiday to europe and now I'm back to half a pack a day...ooops!

  7. drugs seem to be a pretty big part of the jamband scene - i would guess that at the last CTF that maybe 80% of us were wasted from something or another at one point. from a players point of view, my experience is that drugs can only enhance something thats already good to begin with. there has got to be good energy already present - if there isnt, then a drug will only bring the energy level down. when drugs create problems for musicians (for anybody!) is when folks take them to get into a good place, the good place has to be there first! if it is, and if things are taken in moderation - then a few extra doors can be opened, especially in the improvisational jamband context. now i'm a piano player so i'm maybe a little more free to 'mentally experiment' then would be a drummer who has the primary and more physical job of maintaining good solid time.
