    Bela Fleck Canadian Interview

Primed to play the Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival later this summer (Wednesday, June 30th; Nathan Philips Square) after an energetic and sold- out concert in Hamilton two week ago, Bela Fleck and The Flecktones are touring in support of their recent release, a sprawling three-disc album "Little Worlds." Multiple Grammy Award winning Banjo Player extraordinaire Bela Fleck, who is joined onstage by the Wooten brothers, bassist Victor (3-time Bass Player Magazine 'Bassist of the Year) and his brother Future Man, on the Drumitar (a percussion instrument of his own creation) and Jeff Coffin on saxophone, sat down with Jay Cleary in Hamilton on the day of the 4:20 show to talk to about his work and approach to making music.

They boys are heading into a very busy summer, with lots of Western and Eastern Tour Dates, this might be the last time to check them out in TORONTO for a long time....

The New Albm will be out soon, it's entitled "Files in the No Fly" and is a healthy evolution of the band, an array of experimental rock songs, focused on melody and texture. The band truly believes they have grown musically and with this album can offer something very accessible yet interesting and a bit off the wall.

  5. I saw these guys once... at Kingswood/Wonderland...

I thought that it sucked... i was very weirded out by the lead singer who was tell the crowd about the "love that's in the air" he was pure cheeze...

I caught their encore from the parking lot "OWNER OF A LONELY HEART" not really that great a song.

  6. I have to admit that Sellasie I Power can have some shakey shows...They have also been through some line-up changes, but the key principals.. Kwabena Reuben, Fredlocks Asher, Uncle Dropsi and Sun Ray are living breathing Canadian Reggae Legends. The band's album KING OF KINGS, was pretty cool, and it featured a who's who of the Toronto Reggae scene. My friend and Juno Nominated Reggae Artist Andru Branch shows up on percussion. The Title Track is a modern Reggae Anthem...

Sellasie I Power retreated to Vancouver a couple of years ago and have been touring steady, Fredlocks takes a little more centre stage now, but it looks like they've had some resurgence.

This is a picture from a tour KUNG and I helped set up a couple of years ago... That's Sister Julie in the Middle.
