Jay Funk Dawg got a reaction from Booche in Horrible news for our community: RIP BradM
Very sad to hear about BradM's passing.
As many of you, I know BradM through the music scene.  I've been fortunate to get to know tapers from all over the country, and consider myself a amateur taper, mostly recording the shows I produced for my own use.   It's a rare breed of people who dedicate themselves to this craft and I think it's such an admirable and selfless job.  The taping scene in Canada is so small and those few who do it really help preserve and document our Canadian culture - and above all so many memories.
He mailed me copies of the shows he taped but were not authorized to be uploaded to the archive.  I remember once that he wanted to check with one of the bands he taped first before burning me a copy, in spite of the fact that I was the promoter.
Outside of his admiral dedication to taping, BradM was a sweet guy.  I spent more than a few set breaks with him outside and really enjoyed his different point of views and quirky sense of humour.  I'll always remember him enjoying a pint, standing next to his microphones at a show enjoying himself.
Much love BradM, I hope you are out there taping the great big gig in the sky.

Pretty sad when you have to go through lawyers to deal with your own family... Frank is probably rolling in his grave right now.

Jay Funk Dawg got a reaction from edger in Marcus King Band + Atlas Road Crew in Toronto + Montreal Sept. 11 + 12
Pretty amazing show...  Marcus is a powerhouse guitarist/vocalist...  a real one of a kind soulful rocker.   My buddy Deshawn aka D'vibes played Keys and brought some funky souljazz sounds to the hard hitting Marus King Band.

Jay Funk Dawg got a reaction from bouche in Sharon Jones RIP
very sad... I'd recommend to all fans to watch this movie of her cancer struggle... she's had a very challenging few years and it's really sad to hear she has passed yesterday, it obviously comes as a shock to the Soul & Funk community ...  she had a slew of dates on the books, so her condition must have changed rapidly resulting in her passing.

lots of love to the Daptone Records Family... they seem to have some bad luck, Amy Winehouse recorded her album with the Dapkings, their newest release by the Frightnrs comes off the passing of their lead singer Dan “Brukky” Klein , Charles Bradley just was diagnosed with stomach Cancer, and the news yesterday about Sharon... very sad..
My favorite song by Sharon has to be "How Long" - I've seen her play about 8 times, and I don't think I ever saw her do this one live...  i remember the band teased the song in an intro medley, but never played it with her singing... I always wondered if she didn't play it, either she was sick of it. or perhaps another reason?  To me this is her best known song and not playing it seemed strange, especially since she had an album called "give the people what they want"  - well I want Sharon Jones back!

Jay Funk Dawg got a reaction from Hartamophone in The New Deal @ Opera House (T.O.) May 9
from The New Deal: "Our very first show ever as a band, performed in Toronto in 1998 in front of four people at a place called The Comfort Zone. We didn't even have a name yet but upon listening back to the recording (on cassette!) after the show we knew we had the makings of something special. This clip features the first "song" we ever came up with (Back To The Middle) as well as the first performance of Holland Tunnel. with the exception of the main lick to Back To The Middle, the entire concert was improvised from beginning to end" - Jamie

Best known for his Grammy-nominated, genre-busting band Phish, Trey Anastasio’s career has expanded to include everything from orchestral evenings with the Los Angeles Philharmonic to a Tony Award (Hands on a Hardbody). Anastasio debuts songs from his highly anticipated solo album, Paper Wheels, with his septet in this intimate performance at Brooklyn Bowl.

Jay Funk Dawg got a reaction from Fat Cats in El Mocambo closing in November
    Loved that achive post Velvet!

It's sad that the place is shutting down.  Sam & Co had no clue how to make El Mocambo work.  They thought bringing back classic rock was going to work, essentially thinking that getting April Wine and Trooper back to play the club was going to revive them. Delusions of The Stones or U2 coming back for a surprise show.  They changed their programming too much and alienated the loyal crowd.  They fired Yvonne Mastell who booked the downstairs room a few months after the sale to Sam from Abbas Jahangiri... that was the begining of the end.

I worked as the main club booker for the upstairs room 2004-2009 and kept booking shows there after. I probably did 150 shows there highlights were The Slip, Benevento Russo Duo, The Jimmy Swift Band, Bassnectar, Grand Theft Bus, Slowcoaster, That 1 Guy, A.Skillz, Krafty Kuts, Vorcza Trio, Julie Dorion, Fred Eaglesmith, Drums & Tuba, Afrika Bambaataa, Dream Band, Truth & Rights, Friendlyess, Selassie I Power, Resinators, Chameleon Project, Vanderpark, God Made Me Funky, King Sunshine, Jazzanova, Bullfrog, Thomas Mapfumo, Slammin Jack, Guerrila Dub Squad, Word People, KaeSun, Big League Chu, Fort Knox Five, Fat Cats, Diesel Dog, Mark Wilson & The Way it is, Caution Jam, The Bunnies, Soulive,  Jon Butler Trio, Fertile Ground, Blue Quarter, Moses Mayes, Koybashi, New Kingston, DJ Chocolate, Progress, Gisto, Irie Band, House of David Gang, High Plains Drifter so many others...

It's sad for Toronto live music scene, with the right vision it could have kept the spirit of independent original music... I know the more recent owners had good intentions, but that wasn't ultimately enough. RIP eL MOCAMBO.
