  6. Depending on your current contractual status you can threaten to leave Rogers and then begin negotiating with a Rogers retention specialist to get some pretty incredible deals. i.e. 30% off, free PVR for a year etc... I find the Rogers online chat with their customer service to be quite useful in answering questions quickly. http://rogershelp.com/wireless_button/ivr/
  7. She's actually the only "slam piece" in the office, full blown cougar but doable. I'll sing her a medley of your tunes while she opens her gift As for her music - Imagine new country hits sung by a woman who does at least a dozen costume changes during the show, has a full pre recorded band backing her and ususally plays places like Montana's Steakhouse and then you're starting to get an idea of what her act is like. Thanks for the suggestion Sean, I grabbed both of those things. The lady at the health food store told me the spray was a favorite of a local professional auctioneer, so I took that as a good sign.

  12. I'm hoping some of the musicians on the board can give me an idea of what to get my co-worker for her secret santa gift? She's a performing musician, so I'm thinking of trying to find her a gift along those lines. She's in a country duo, plays small bars and clubs, she's a singer. Price limited is $5- $10 Any ideas?
  13. This is very good news, Delta Spirit are amazing! Thanks for the heads up.
  14. Blu-Ray is supposed to look good on these TV's, thats why they are always playing movies when you go into FS or BB. For a real test get them to turn or regular cable television to get a good sense of what it will look like on a day to day basis. I'll second Audiotronic for anyone in Ottawa looking. No pressure, knowledgible staff who will walk you through everything if you want. Thanks for the heads up on Boxee AD, I'll check out the others you mentioned. I might just run cable and just use the plugins in Windows 7 anyway and use XBMC for front end.
  15. http://www.samsung.com/ca/consumer/tv-video/tv/lcd/LN46C650L1FXZC/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail I'm buying this one come January once the price drops again. Hoping to get it for around $800. Planning on building a HTPC using http://www.boxee.tv/
  16. Currently, in the United States Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, and in Canada it is celebrated on the second Monday of October . Thanksgiving in the United States was observed on various dates throughout history. By the mid 20th century, the final Thursday in November had become the customary day of Thanksgiving in most U.S. states. It was not until December 26, 1941, however, that President Franklin D. Roosevelt, after pushing two years earlier to move the date earlier to give the country an economic boost, signed a bill into law with Congress, making Thanksgiving a national holiday and settling it to the fourth (but not final) Thursday in November.[8] Thanksgiving in Canada did not have a fixed date until the late 19th century, at which time it was typically held on November 6. After the end of World War I, Thanksgiving Day and Remembrance Day ceremonies were usually held during the same week. To prevent the two holidays from clashing with one another, in 1957 the Canadian Parliament proclaimed Thanksgiving to be observed on its present date.[7] So we picked the date to try and balance out our fall holidays while the US pick their date to extend their Christmas shopping season?
  17. Julia wasn't just a vibrant member of our little community. She was also deeply loved by and had a huge impact on another group of amazing people, the fine people of the Terrapin message board. People are expressing some beautiful thoughts and memories about Julia over there that I thought folks here might like to read. http://gatheringofthevibes.com/forum/showthread.php?t=50028

    Hip Hop 2010

Anthems, Kanye !?! Dave-O, brother, you're breaking my heart. You just named two things that are ruining hip hop. I recommend 10 CC's of Black Star stat followed up by some Wale mixtape injections

  22. Crazy news! Feeling kind of torn on this one, as much as I'm happy that the Folkfest is no longer in debt I am worried about what this could mean for our small but mighty festival. The current location is a pain to get to, no doubt, but once you're there it is the best music venue in town. Leaving Britania for the sake of convience sucks but it is the most logical change to increase attendence. Confed park would be my first choice but it lacks a certain intimacy that Britannia offers, so I dunno. Dylan's lineup was great this year, awesome new direction. Hopefully in the new paradigm Dylan is still in control of artist programming and with the new influx of Bluesfest cash at his dissposal, hopefully we can really strive to match Hillside and then surpass it with even more international talent. Moving it downtown also opens it up to a lot of new rules such as the curfew bylaw and the noise bylaw. Two things that weren't so rigid in Brittania, due to the inclusion of the surrounding neigborhood. In the end, can it really be a bad thing to have another world class music festival in town? No of course not but Folkfest is pretty damn special and it would be a shame to lose that magic.
