Isn't that a bit harsh AD? I mean, again I haven't heard Cardiff but from what I know about him I doubt he's trying to rip off Keller, he's just doing his own thing which happens to involve loops. Can't more than one guy use loops?

Low Roller, this is in no way meant to belittle your choice, 'cus I agree Nick Drake is great... something just struck me a little bizzare seeing a 'new band' list with a guy who died in 1974. But I do know what you mean.

I'm personally digging two somewhat guilty pleasures a lot lately, The Killers and The Darkness. Gawd I love over-the-top music!

Also a plug for someone who's not new, but I bought the 3 EPs that Ben Folds released in 2003-2004, and they're really cool! Nothing much new to his sound, but I'd say this stuff is at least as good as "Rockin' The Suburbs" so if you dig Ben solo or BFF, I'd recommend ordering these off his site.

Hey all! A quick plug for "Dr. B's Acoustic Open Stage", hosted by Winterfolk organizer Brian Gladstone. I've gone a bunch of times and it's always a blast. (Plus the Renaissance has some excellent beers on tap! ) This week our band Uncle Seth is the feature act, but it is a weekly event. Here's the details:

Join us for a night of great music, fun and frivolity at Dr. B's Acoustic Open Show, at the Renaissance Cafe (1938 Danforth Ave, 1 Block W. of Woodbine) every Thursday evening.

All levels of performers are welcome - from beginners to professionals - to come out and play their songs in a warm receptive appreciative environment

What: Acoustic Open Stage, open to everyone regardless of their style or skill level. We encourage beginners, emerging artists, as well as seasoned veterans. All sound equipment is supplied by the club. Come in and put your name on the sign-up sheet to reserve your spot. All performers are guaranteed a minimum of two songs, and more depending on attendance.

When: Every Thursday Evening, Signup starts at 8:00, Open Stage Starts at 9:00, feature at approx. 10:30

(1/8/03, 12 p.m. ET) -- Phil Collins has said that he'd welcome a reunion concert or recordings with all five original members of Genesis--Peter Gabriel, Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks and Steve Hackett.

However, he realizes there are numerous obstacles that would prevent such a gathering.

Collins is realistic about the feelings of all band members, from Gabriel expressing no interest in a reunion to the perspective of the other musicians.

"And I'll give you all the reasons why it wouldn't happen," Collins said. "Tony and Mike probably would think that it would look like that 'we couldn't do it without Phil and Pete. Well, we did try to do it with Ray Wilson and it didn't work.' So, from a pride point of view, they'd say 'No.' This is what I think some of the answers would be so, but from my point of view, as someone who's known for doing anything, you know, doing everything, to me it's just 'Hey, I'll do that; that's not going to ruin my life. This is just going to be a bit of fun,' you know? So, I would say yes. In either lineup, but for a limited run only. And for a good reason."

Interestingly, I saw Barenaked Ladies probably 20+ times before they were signed. Jim & Andy went to my high school so I’d see them a bunch through that connection, also they used to play regularly with my buddy's brother's band - I actually ran the lights for an encore they played at the Rivoli one night. And they were ubiquitous at Ryerson frosh events and other such places in the early 90s. I've only seen them a few times since, but it adds up to maybe 25 times altogether.

Other than bands I've actually been in, I probably haven't seen anyone play more than my friend the late Matt Osborne. Probably saw Matt a hundred times… only wish it had been more...

There's lots of friends that I've seen play in clubs many times. For ticketed concerts, it'd have to be Rush at about 20 times. Blues Traveler and possibly Dave Matthews would likely be tied for second, around 15 times each. Actually Gowan would be right up there (!) but that would have to include a lot of those old Ontario Place Forum & Nathan Philips shows that were technically free.

Agreed - Lakeshore makes sense if there's a closure.

Personally I wouldn't cut in up aroun Bloor/Dav/whatever anyway 'cus any way you go you're gonna have to south when you get above downtown which will always be a pain that time of day.

Hmmm, "something" sounds like the 401 if she's going to the Allen from there. That route is a little more twisty, but would work too thou, for sure.

Not a problem. Personally I'd leave about 1.5 hours minimum, particularly if you need to hunt for parking - 2 hours if you can spare it. FYI there's a big city parking garage just south-east of Hummingbird off the Esplinade. It's not the cheapest place to park, but it's big and easy to find.

Airport Road south to 427, 427 straight down to the Gardiner, Gardiner to Yonge and park around Yonge and Front would be by far the easiest IMHO. I take it you're going at around afternoon rush hour, correct? Traffic would be a bit thick, but you're mostly going against it that time of day.

Bruce was always "The Boss" and Clarence is "The Big Man" (as heard in "Tenth Avenue Freezeout" and numerous live intros by Bruce. At least in everything I've ever read or heard on the subject.

Hey Jaydawg, were did you get this CD? I have Big Boy and it's one of my faves ("River II" pretty much makes me weep) but I've never seen this one.
