  1. Shitty ears. Nope. There's a time and place for a cannon kick and rock out mode and that's when things are rolling heavy, not leading up to it - which is what happened on Wednesday night. When buddy's playing bass and a few notes are waaay loud and in the same register as that explosion from the drumset and I catch it then I know my ears aren't shitty. Being close to the stage I could hear the bass player's rig (I was pretty much directly in font of it) and that's not what translated through the mains. The cab was mic'd and what I heard was not the bass notes as they came out of that speaker. The way bass and keys work together in My Morning Jacket, the bass guitar isn't always the integral low end but often works as a punctuant. At times there wasn't enough of it to get that huge thing going as big as it could otherwise have been. Glad that those times it wasn't the way too big that otherwise had the band playing those notes (cause it was the only option at the time to be consistent). I can't say that I have any idea what was going on up there re: monitor mixes, but it seems to my eyes and ears that the band at least felt it. Anyway, I know what I heard and saw distracted me a little from the concert and that was a real indication that the engineering wasn't transparent...which an experience like that demands. The set was great but by the end every song melted into heavy rock out mode and to me that suggests that the band was getting tired of having to play in rock out mode and finished their set before they absolutely had to - which might otherwise have been different without the Iron Maiden tribute band treatment from the Bluesfest FOH. Here's to MMJ touring with production supports next time through! Again...great set otherwise. And NW - Those fries were great weren't they? Never before had I loaded a plate of french fries with peppers and sauerkraut but it's not going to be the last time either.

    yayyyyyy God

I've missed seeing your pretty avatar with all of those birds finally freed from your steamy armpits. Fly away to the sun!
  3. Shitty sound. Too bad I can't rely on bluesfest mainstage anymore. I saw them motioning for what felt like over an hour to get FOH to cut back the kick/bass/keys region. Very overpowering rock out mode...glad this was my first show as it can ONLY get better from here on in. This band is all about dynamics and tonight at BF was certainly not set for a band like this. Whineola aside, awesome band. These guys and Wilco should tour and invite me along.
  4. I resent Apple's control locks on their products. If I want to drop a file onto my buddy's computer for an interim period to use it there I should be able to. Say, if I have a recording of me playing guitar on mp3...or an old album that I ripped from a second hand CD score. My CD, my copy...even if it's not my computer.
  5. look up' date=' way up. [/quote'] Examples of other kings or how someone can look like a king.

  7. I was standing outside by the statue and after watching Booche and his enormous grin spray the first 3 rows of the audience I was glad to see that some of you folks made it out to this. Jaga Jazzist, Soulive, and Lee Fields: thank you OLG tent.
  8. I have thought again and again about that silly comment almost every time i walk down the hill and around my neighbourhood but more for wondering how specifically any needs could be met on a federal leve than much else...liked what the heck would my solution be for that anyway? How could an mp vitalize carlington park? I wish municipal politics were sexier than sewage and burst water mains where is the real effectual politics anyway? Provincial?
  9. ...And here's to him freeing himself next time through if it hasn't.
  10. Something tells me that you've got things switched around, Booche.
  11. A friend of mine was at that show and she was more than impressed as it was her first Lips show. Perhaps you're just turning hipster, Birdy.
  12. Crazy as ever. Thanks for asking!
  13. Don't you sharpen/Burnish your own knives? Honing a blade should only be done when there are cracks or chips in the edge. Here's hoping your tools aren't broken.
  14. Codified rights guaranteed by law aren't 'Canadian'...the Magna Carta provided that under Common Law.
  15. It's another silly comment that supposes that Baird doesn't really speak to the needs and values of the immediate geographic community. A nice place to vote! And while it's close to a bunch of rather nice townhouses and single detached homes, it's also nestled beside affordable rentals. Maybe it's how livable the neighbourhood is (it's pretty darn nice here (here's to finding work in the city for when school's done)) and maybe it's how the Conservatives' approach speaks to people worried about the price of gas and the projected effects a 'socialist' government has on investments that kept Baird where he is. I don't see that loudmouth jerk rallying to help get people out of poverty and to be fair I didn't get any sense of rallying voters around any central values from either of the other viable parties. While the numbers of voters increased slightly compared to the '08 election the same blame game could easily be played on this split left. I still think that if more people voted that could be served by a shift were to have voted we would have seen a different result here. ...but that doesn't make this riding unique in any way.
  16. yeah. I can't feel bad about my vote. Home riding is way blue (and the guy does a great job) and my school riding put a very able Liberal candidate (she used to work at the United Nations) to try to out John Baird and have an incredibly bright and younger female representative into the house. I walked to and from the polling station and got registered in about 20 minutes. I feel good about today. It's either that or hate people for the way they voted. That would be way lame.
  17. Not a surprise to have him reelected. Too bad nobody got the throngs of non-white voters out to the polls here. I was the only guy in the place when I voted.
  18. FYI, quality dark chocolate is one of the best sources of magnesium you can get in a food (raw cocoa nibs are tops) which will start you on your day well. I'll take chocolate over a coffee any day.
  19. Glad that more people voted. Not a huge surprise though. My polling station was across the street from a major social housing building. 'in the ghet-to' (Thanks, Elvis)
  20. Martin's Libs ushered in a lot of economic stability to this country as well as a lot of regulation that kept us afloat the past few years. Here's to the next several years getting through to all those retards that voted blue for no good reason enough to let them realize that it impacts them personally.
