  7. well I must say that's the first positive review of this album I've read anywhere. My impressions of a few these songs both on the internet and live at the ACC last year did not bode well. Glad you enjoyed it. I'll check it out at some point but I'm not inspired to run out and grab it, like I/we usually do with Neil. He is awesome but man the title tune is a bloody awful, at least.
  8. japanese it was - mmmmmm, sashimi. mmmm bbq beef ribs. mmmmm tepenyaki steak & green onions. mmmmmm pulled noodle seafood soup. mmmmmm.
  9. we're debating maybe doing a Japanese place - Sapporo, in downtown Hamilton. Yeah, it's technically a "buffet" but the sashimi is excellent and they cook to order from the checklist menu, it's not a hot tray place at all. I feel indecisive because as much as that would be excellent, I feel I could almost have a bagel and cream cheese, later on some kielbassa sliced up, call it a night and still be satisfied, $25 heavier.

  11. I've been going mental about this for a few weeks now, so now I turn to you good people for tips/advice. First a brief history: my computer is a refurbished Asus with an apparently illegitimate Windows XP 2002 on it. Not a workhorse but we don't need one, it suits me for the moment. Now, from day one, in order to get external sound from the speakers, I had to place headphones into the headphone jack on the onboard soundcard. Over time, this jack got looser and looser, I had to wiggle it into the "sweet spot" time and again to get sound. Now it's just too loose to even do that. And where it is mounted on the computer is an awkward spot behind part of the metal casing, can't get my sausage fingers in there. Of course, this is the part of the PC that is inaccessible like this. So, I bought an external soundcard - admittedly a cheap one: Sabrent SBT-SP6C (all I do with sound on a PC is cruise youtube and check out some tunes, nothing demanding AWESOME sound). I put it in, loaded the disc it came with, ran it. Then I disabled the onboard soundcard through accessing BIOS in startup. Reconnected the speakers (properly I believe). And now, I have nothing happening. The sound device manager tells me there are no audio devices detected. When I put the disc back to try to reinstall, my PC thinks it is full of pictures, not data, another source of frustration. Thinking drivers might be the problem, I searched for some for this but that was a total source of frustration. Yes, I could take it in but I admit I'd rather not go computer-less for a couple of days and throw diagnostic fees at a problem that I hope is simple enough and simply down to my lack of expertise about computers. Any advice friends? Remember, I am pretty unschooled in these matters.

  19. This does suck - I really did enjoy that board, it gave me some great laughs over the years. Some of their threads were absolute classics - "Weirdest Thing You Ever Did/Saw On Drugs" was a 300+ post masterpiece. Gadiel'd.

    it's a real blow to the extended scene, not just Hamilton. But let's raise a toast to Ken and his staff!!! You really couldn't ask for a better crew. and as an aside, while we are discussing this on a jam-focused site, remember: The Pepper Jack Cafe was (is) an important hub spanning several "scenes" around here. People don't always give live music a chance in Hamilton much anymore. I feel really lucky to have taken the stage there a couple of times. And last but not least, they always served great food!!
  22. awesome show, loved the last song (by an artist I did not know of) called "Down River". Elton is an underrated piano player, imo. And he actually seems like a really decent dude. I'd love to spend Christmas with him and David and their friends, I bet it would be really nice. I've finally forgiven him for murdering his own song "Candle In The Wind" back when that Royal babe died.
