  1. Pretty good quality. Looks like a great show: http://www.youaintnopicasso.com/2008/06/24/download-my-morning-jackets-3-hour-bonnaroo-set/
  2. You are right phorbesie, MMJ are not a jam band, but they incorporate elements of jam mentality into their overall approach. Some nights are outright crazy, but Jim James is on record as loving differing daily concert nights - and I believe that's why the "Evening With..." shows are different than the Montreal and Toronto gigs.
  3. Very true. They would have made the playoffs and perhaps go past the 1st round without the trade, but (and I hate to admit it) Hossa really added another scoring threat that they needed to go deep.
  4. I hope for the Pens' sake that they can sign a player of similar quality, because they gave up a lot for their Cup run.
  5. Ringo had a successful early solo career. He had at least two big albums too, Ringo and Goodnight Vienna. He's not a big writer, true, but he's done alright for himself on his own.
  6. Dave, shouldn't you be busy writing that MMJ concert review? The iron is getting pretty cold.
  7. I agree with you more than you think, I just don't write posts when I do.
  8. If they get swept by Pirates they should fire J.P. too (although he should have been the first to go).
  9. They do switch it up, but I'm also frustrated that Jim basically ignores playing stuff from the first two albums when he's fronting MMJ (like the last two tours including this current one) - he does do lots of early album dipping when he does solo acoustic mini-tours and shows. I think part of the reasoning for ignoring the early stuff is that Jim is on record for not wanting to look back and doesn't like being pidgeonholed. One thing to look for as the tour stretches onwards is to see what gets dropped and what gets added. I think that their "Evening With" shows will be incredible and really long and inclusive. I still think that the It Still Moves touring era was MMJ at my favourite - they played the new stuff but didn't ignore the past either.
  10. They have enough songs that's for damn sure. They don't have a bad album out of 5 released so far. Jim James is one of the most prolific and exciting songwriters of his generation. I think if you don't know the earlier three MMJ albums (and a few of the EPs) - full of a wide variety of great songs that they've played throughout their first 5 or 6 years of their career - then it's unfair to brush off this new album and support tour as "that's all there is".
  11. Ironically, his appeal of "convenience" probably contributed to his obesity in the first place.
  12. Lots of good advice. I'll second bouche's Weight-Watchers recommendation: I lost close to 30 lbs a few years back. One thing that makes WW a step above the rest of the diets is that it teaches you how to eat healthy. Fad diets do not. Also, if you don't exercise, you may as well not diet.
  13. They don't play a lot of their early stuff that much anymore, and it's too bad too since The Tennessee Fire is a country-folk masterpiece and At Dawn is equally as good, but a lot darker and haunting.
  14. And it looks like the Jays are a medium-rare to well-done bird right now too.
  15. I read that they played Dondante. Cool stuff. Did they air-out Lay Low again? I could enjoy a whole set of that song alone.
  16. Do you find EU too clean sounding? I do, at least on certain stereo systems. I know they were going for a clean sound, but I really love their groundbreaking lo-fi work.
  17. I liked the show, I'm just not loving the R&B EU songs that much. I think I hate "Highly Suspicious" too. However, there's always a few songs per MMJ album that I don't like.
  18. I'm fairly familiar with a number of the new songs. I thought the Berkeley Church show kicked this one's ass using a similar setlist.
  19. Tonight's show easily ranks #4 of the 4 shows I've seen. However, if you are a fan of MMJ's latest effort, Evil Urges, then you may have a differing opinion. The #4 ranking comes down to a few factors: Evil Urges is 6/7 days old and I'm not overly familiar with it, plus it doesn't rock with the same energy or slam you in the face like their other albums do; nothing touches "Lay Low", "One Big Holiday" or "Dondante". Also, there is a realization that Jim James could do a whole 2 hours of solo acoustic stuff that would better a full band's set by a mile. Still, it was a good show. The encore kicked it and saved the night. Have a good one show in Montreal.
  20. The Raconteurs hit the stage at 9:20 last week. I'm assuming MMJ will be on around the same time, although I'm getting there early to see Besnard Lakes.
  21. I thought there was one more day given MMJ's involvement? Regardless, you are right indeed.
  22. Also, it's the NXNE fest. Pick up a NOW. I believe The John Henrys are playing soon. So is Sloan.
  23. I'm really liking Rocco though. It was great hearing his fast-talking banter betweeen shots with his caddy. Tomorrow, no matter who wins, is going to be fantastic.
