  1. It would've gone a lot better in past federal elections if people could actually vote directly for a party's leader. I liked Stephane Dion and voted for Andrew Lang, but my vote was wasted since I lived in Jack Layton's riding (I was pissed at him at the time). We had a chance to change the voting laws during the 2008 election (I believe it was this fed election), but people seemed not to see or understand what the box meant on the ballot.
  2. He's a strange cat. Metta is also a big Celine Dion fan. No joke. Too bad his good game left with his old name.
  3. I loved the Expos. R.I.P. Kid. He may be the best catcher of his era.
  4. I can see it now - the blues purists are gonna run to the hills! I'm more or less a purist, but I'd run from the hills to the front row. These guys are more musically interesting now than their early days. I wouldn't expect a trip down memory lane either. From what I gather, their last tour focussed on newer material and intricate jams.
  5. I think they had their moments before the destruction of the late '70s and '80s. This is pretty great. Carl was a hell of a singer. God Only Knows, live 1967
  6. I hated the end result of last night's game, but it was exciting to say the least. I'm loving the Lin saga too. Calderon was a little soft during the last :10 of the game, probably because Lin isn't a good outside shooter. Sinking the shot only added to his mini-legend.
  7. The Danforth Music Hall is undergoing another extensive renovation. The lobby has been gutted and it looks like there'll be more room to mingle. Basher should know what else to expect in the hall itself.
  8. Great venue and great neighbourhood. I saw them the last time they came to town and they were awesome, even in the Phoenix.
  9. BrickworKs itself is awesome. I've gone to the farmer's market several times and it is the best in the city, plus there's far more things to do there too than eating and shopping for food. There's a free shuttle at Broadview station, which comes in handy since there's a restaurant there that serves a hearty selection of craft beers.
  10. Jack White's lead single for his upcoming album. http://jackwhiteiii.com/
  11. How much did he really add to Stadium Arcadium though? I feel like the RHCP are at the point in their career where they just release the same-ish album every 3 or 4 years as an excuse to go on tour. They haven't really recorded anything all that relevant since Blood Sugar Sex Magik' date=' which I always found overrated in the first place. I guess what I'm saying is that for a band of supposed great musicians they don't show it that much. I would love for them to get jammier and creative with the setlists. [/quote'] I think he was hampered by Anthony's gentrified song structure. When he was given any chance to shine, he usually delivered. John has perfect taste even when the songs aren't up to snuff. I'd like RHCP to be a hard funk trio sans Anthony.
  12. Too bad John Frusciante left the band before the recording of their latest album. He's a fucking brilliant guitarist. I hear he handpicked his replacement.
  13. Agreed Dave. The cast is good though and the storylines keep you hooked. The series starts out creepy, but the scares gradually wear off (although this doesn't ruin the overall tone of the show). Jessica Lange certainly deserved a GG.
  14. Dinklage was awesome starring in The Station Agent. Great film.

    Zombies!

The Walking Dead is ok. Its biggest flaw is that most of the characters are terribly written. The show would be better if the zombies ate most of the cast. This is a good list (which mentions great related non-zombie movies such as The Omega Man, Evil Dead and Re-Animator): http://www.boston.com/ae/movies/gallery/bestzombiemovies/
  16. My sincere condolences to you and your family, Kevin. Pugs are awesome and Marley couldn't have better parents.
  17. The Jays do need another quality starter, and Darvish is the best "free agent" pitcher available. He has stunning stuff and a proven international track-record. I'd like to see AA add another power-bat. Exciting news, potentially.

    TOOL dates

As great as they are, their videos are even better.
  19. Great pop band. Can't wait for this. Mercer is a major talent.
  20. Yeah, he's in the first scenes with Fonda and you see him at the end of the film. The movie still haunts me.
  21. Sad news. I loved how Morgan smoothly took over for MacLean Stevenson on Mash, which was no easy task. I'm a big fan of westerns and Morgan was in two of the best, The Ox-Bow Incident and High Noon. I urge you to see both, but particularly the former. It remains a disturbing psychological masterpiece.
  22. If the new album blows up big, they could be able to sell out some arenas. Look at what happened with Mumford and Sons and those fucking sickening pukes KOL. As for them playing larger venues, it helps that they occassionally play with an expanded lineup.
  23. It doesn't load for me either. Perhaps Andre has hacked it. I was all set to request some Christmas Paul McCartney.
  24. Toll free number? I want to request lots of Eagles, DMB and late Genesis in his honour.
