  1. A stage full of drunks, but it don't get no better than this on St. Patrick's Day: The Dubliners with The Pogues singing The Irish Rover...
  2. I saw the NMA show on SunTV's Beautiful Noise program. It was awful. Their performance was hollow and the editing/packaging of the show was horrendous. Commerical breaks cut into long songs like "Poor Black Maddie!" I'm hoping the same wasn't done with MMJ, but I doubt it.
  3. [blurb] Review by TimmyB I have been listening to a lot of Simon & Garfunkel over the past couple of years. It likely has a lot to do with the fact that I have been traveled to New York City on multiple occasions during that time. So though I have passed Art Garfunkel by on every previous occasion that he came my way, minus in 2003 when he was on stage with Paul Simon, I felt this time I would quench my thirst for many of those Simon & Garfunkel songs by attending Garfunkel's stop in Toronto in 2009 and I was not disappointed. [/blurb] I do not know if it was because of Garfunkel recently sharing the stage again with his old friend Simon at the reopening of the Beacon Theatre this past Valentine's Weekend, but Garfunkel played far more Simon & Garfunkel songs to my pleasant surprise. Maybe he is warming those songs up for the possible upcoming Simon & Garfunkel tour that has been discussed since the Beacon gig. With nine out of twenty songs from the Simon & Garfunkel canon, including "For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her" which I did not hear the two of them perform in 2003 I was very pleased with the setlist. Another highlight was "Scarborough Fair/Canticle that was merged with Bob Dylan's "Girl From the North Country" and it was quite fitting lyrically as both songs are about fairs. Art Garfunkel brought out his son James to help him sing on "Mrs. Robinson" and "Cecilia" with James tackling the Fleetwood's song "Mr. Blue" solo in between. Other songs selections surprised me with Garfunkel performing a beautiful rendition of Billy Joel's "An So it Goes" and one of Garfunkel's favorite songwriters Randy Newman's "Texas Girl at the Funeral of Her Father" which was a nice surprise as he usually performs the Newman song "Old Man" from his debut solo ablum 'Angel Clare.' A classic performed from Art's debut was the Jimmy Webb hit "All I Know." Unfortunately the show was under ninety minutes which is the minimum for an acceptable length for a headlining show, it clocked in at 1 hour and 25 minutes. In the end I enjoyed Art's vocals as well as that of his son's and he had a good back up band and a good song selection. Who know's maybe next time I see Garfunkel again will be with Simon and they will definitely play more than eighty-five minutes. Peace, Tim Art Garfunkel Roy Tompson Hall Saturday March 14, 2009 1. 4. Cera is grateful. He's said that he hasn't read a script yet. The kid is sharp. If the future script sucks, I doubt he'll do a film.
  5. Conan was an unknown and had lots of time to find his groove. I don't know if Fallon will have the same luxury. Ratings for Conan's show were on the decline - he routinely got beat by Ferguson's show of second-tier guests and non-HD format. We'll see how this uncomfortable Fallon fairs going up against Ferguson for the long-haul.

    hello.

    Welcome back.
  7. Enjoy the show. I love Cuff, especially their new Crazy Horse direction.
  8. I believe you can pay at the door. I did a few years ago for the Television Phoenix show and the reboot of The MC5.
  9. Art Garfunkel has one of the greatest voices, but he can't rock it out.
  10. It's all about "Mojo Pin" for me.
  11. I laughed once last night, and it wasn't during Tracy Morgan's segment. I've never found the guy funny.
  12. Duane played slide on four songs on Hammond's Southern Fried album, but the most famous cut is the cover, "Shake For Me", which can be found on the excellent Duane Allman Anthology Vol I.
  13. I think Hammond will be awesome. Maybe the boys will do a song or two from Hammond's collabortion with Duane?
  14. I haven't been in the Bistro since the late '90s. Is that fat waiter there that looks like a bastard brother of Bill and Brian Doyle Murray?
  15. None of those two washed-up womanizing drunks have the range of Buckley, or to a lesser extend, "Freddy."
  16. Punk rock ages really well, but punkers do not. Still, Marky looks pretty good:
  17. Freddy is tough to beat because of his natural vocal range... and his fish-net tank-tops and sneaky Pete moustache. Kidding aside, one vocalist that matches or beats Freddy is Jeff Buckley.
  18. Good burgers too. Even though the stage is hard to see when its packed and the sound-system is usually spotty, their upstairs concert-lounge is great.
  19. They have great nachos too.

    GO ORANGE!

I love The Big East and the Orangemen. Thanks for posting this.
  21. A friend of mine, Megan Hamilton, is performing tonight for CMW at Rancho Relaxo. I can't make it, but she's a good folk singer/songwriter with shades of Jim James in her style. This is the bill she's on: The Caraways,The Details,Megan Hamilton & the VC, 6 Day Riot, We See Lighs
  22. The Great Outdoors (awesome folk band from Vancouver) Cuff The Duke (Oshawa) The John Henrys (Ottawa) Purple Hill (Toronto) All these bands are at various "up-and-comer" stages and would play on the cheap.
