  1. I'm glad the new look Danforth is good. I liked all three incarnations of the Danforth over the past 12 years (this is its second major renovation and most dramatic, although I really miss the original plush red and gold lobby, small as it was). At least the Opera House's neighbourhood has improved greatly over the past 5 years; if only that dump could do likewise. The Sound Academy was just purchased by a big club developer in the city, so hopefully he'll fix it up. If not, it should be destroyed and the sound techs should be arrested for ruining would-be great shows (Sharon Jones deserved far better).
  2. I know! The seats on the main floor are now removable/temporary. Looks a bit like a classier version of Riverside/Queen Street East's Opera House.
  3. Here's a look of the newly renovated Danforth Music Hall.
  4. There's still one Sam's store, I believe in Belleville of all places. I hope Ryerson does something creative and cool with the iconic neon LP sign like it promised it would do. I used to see Sam in the flagship store from time to time, usually standing by the cash registers by the exit. Good deals at the main store but normally overpriced elsewhere.
  5. The only place to avoid is the main floor of the Black Swan. Fucking dirty dive, although the second floor is a decent blues venue.
  6. For pre-show drinks, Factory Girl, the Auld Spot (across from Carrot Common) and even the Old Nick and New York Cafe (greasy spoon, neighbourhood bar on corner of Broadview and Danforth - cheap but good food and beer and wine) would do nicely.
  7. You can park on all the neighbourhood streets until midnight and I believe some street parking on Broadview, south of Danforth, is free after 9pm. The Loblaws on Broadview is a paid machine parking (for non shoppers) and might be worth a look, just south of Danforth. There are some Green P parking lots one block north of Danforth at Chester and another around Carlaw. Best bet if you plan on staying past midnight is to park on the street and feed the meter until 9 or at a Green P.
  8. Hey deranger, I agree, but the same can be said regarding payola-like playlist rotations on every type of radio format. Its always been this way, which really sucks - sucks like 102.1 does on an hourly basis.
  9. I didn't know what to make of "Creep" for the first few years since it was released. There really was really nothing like it at the time coming from the UK. It wasn't grunge, Britpop, hard rock. It took OK Computer to finally make me appreciate the greatness of "Creep" and Pablo Honey.
  10. Exactly. Not enough. Premeditated homophobic slur. I do something similar in my workplace and I'm fired. He had no excuse, cowardly spoke through an interpretor even though he speaks fluent English. Looks bad on the team, the city, the country and Escobar. Fucking boot this fucker in the fucking head and kick him off the team.
  11. The fucking idiot should be kicked off the team.
  12. Haven't read the books, so Season II worked just fine for me.
  13. According to IMDb, Season III's premiere date is March 31, 2013.
  14. Love the entire 2nd season. It exceeds the first season and left me wanting more. I can't wait for Season III. Another Golden Globe for Peter Dinklage.
  15. Where I was standing (near the soundboard) the crowd was rocking it out c-towns style. Great show and more jammy than I expected from Yim and the boys.
  16. Our women got lucky, but then again, so did the US.

    BEER!!

I had three Hops & Robbers pints at a nearby pub last night. They were good. Not as hoppy out of the can for some reason.
  18. Hey, I've watched tons of bouts. I thought Custio Clayton go jobbed but Mary Spencer was terrible. She's even admitted that she was nervous and distracted. I could tell since she ate a lot of overhand rights (when they weren't clutching and pawing). The Team Canada coach thought she lost too. I wish we'd see the odd body punch, but that that art went away when the new point system was implimented.
  19. I'd rather see Pete stage Quadrophenia. There's a new Quadrophenia documentary featuring their much-maligned 1973 tour and behind-the-scenes recording studio footage.
  20. Iron Maiden have gotten a lot more proggy and experimental over the past decade. This will be a great show!
  21. The world would be a better place without the likes of Goldstein and his esteemed SUN colleague, Sue-Ann Levy.
  22. You pretty much can't go wrong with anything from Masterpiece on PBS such as Sherlock, Downton Abbey, Inspector Lewis, the new reboot of Morse, Zen (starring Rufus Sewel as an Italian detective) etc...
  23. BBC/PBS Masterpiece's Sherlock (a modern take on Sherlock Holmes) is one of the best shows on TV. Downton Abbey is pretty great too.
  24. Bored to Death is freaking hilarious. Burn Notice (Bruce Campbell rules!) Justified (modern-day Deadwood, with some of the same cast) True Blood Game of Thrones The Killing Hell on Wheels (not as good as Deadwood, but it gets better as it goes; Colm Meaney is fantastic) BSG is excellent, with a spotty 3rd season; good stand-alone movies too American Horror Story (starts out scary, but turns into more of a creepy mystery)
  25. PS I Love You is a great band, but I haven't heard Death Dreams yet. Love their debut.
