Tom Petty!

John Wetton has passed Not a big surprise, I know he had been dealing with cancer for a while. They might not have been a jam band as such, but King Crimson have produced a lot of great improvisational music and John Wetton's kick ass bass was a big part of my favorite period of the band. If you haven't already, I strongly encourage checking out the albums he played on (especially Starless & Bible Black and Red).

There's also that scorching take on "Isis" with Mick Ronson on guitar. Both those performances were on a bonus DVD that came with Bootleg Series 5.

Damn it, I wanted to be the first with a totally unfounded Tom Petty rumour. Sorry folks, I think I might have jinxed it. Since i was going to be in Toronto, I was figuring this would be the year they finally get Tom Petty. As it turns out, I will still be in Ottawa and likely actually going to Bluesfest this year, so it probably won't happen, just to spite me. Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.
