switch in drummers. Now featuring Terence Higgins from the Dirty Dozen Brass Band
and here's another thread about the show -
-
Toronto gig please!
I will be announcing one more show soon but
unfortunately Charlie will not be playing Toronto
on this run.
How about Hamilton? Guelph?
Some place relatively close would be nice.
some place relatively close is confirmed and will be
announced very soon.
there has been a switch in drummers. Charlie will now be
joined by Terence Higgins, internationally known as
drummer for the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, has performed
with everyone from Widespread Panic to Dr. John to Norah
Jones, and has even gained his own set of peers in other
drummers such as Brian Blade, Russell Batiste Jr., and
Stanton Moore.
-
you have a link? I'm interested but I have something else going on tonight
-
maybe not die but it would be a freakin mess. They should have put them in the Great Hall. That would have been manageable and a very pleasant experience. I'm not a fan of the sound in the Wentworth room
-
Wow' date=' a Hamilton date.
Wentworth Room? Never heard of it. Anyone know if it is it at the convention centre?[/quote']
It is at the Convention Centre. I'm not sure which room it is, though.
it's the ground floor room to your left when you walk through the front doors. Holds around 2,000 people
Anyone know if it's general admission or not?
yes, I'm assuming it's general admission. HECFI would never do seated in the Wentworth Room for an event like this. People would die.
-
wow, very excited for this one. i love charlie hunter, tickets purchased. i can finnaly get my vinyl signed by him. garage a trois folks with him would be nice. but solo is just as good. cheers rob
with drummer Terence Higgins.

After the highly successful Marco Benevento shows, Kick It Down
Promotions in partnership with jambands.ca is extremely pleased
to present world renowned guitar master, Charlie Hunter.
Joining Charlie on drums for this intimate occasion will
be Terence Higgins from the Dirty Dozen Brass Band.
---
First coming to prominence in the early 1990s, Hunter has recorded 17
albums. Hunter plays custom-made seven and eight-string guitars, on
which he simultaneously plays basslines, rhythm guitar, and solos.
Critic Sean Westergaard describes Hunter's guitar technique as "mind-
boggling ... he's an agile improviser with an ear for great tone, and
always has excellent players alongside him in order to make great
music, not to show off."
Hunter graduated from Berkeley High School and took lessons from
famed guitar teacher Joe Satriani. At eighteen he moved to Paris, and
after returning to the Bay area, Hunter played a seven-string guitar and
organ in Michael Franti's political rap group, The Disposable Heroes of
Hiphoprisy. In 1992, they were one of the opening acts for U2's Zoo TV
Tour.
Since the debut of his self-titled Charlie Hunter Trio (which included
Dave Ellis on sax and Jay Lane on drums) in 1993, Charlie Hunter has
recorded seventeen albums. He co-founded Garage A Trois, a jazz
fusion band with Stanton Moore and Skerik. He has collaborated with
Bobby Previte for an ongoing project entitled "Groundtruther." He also
recorded and toured for Bobby Previte's The Coalition of the Willing in
2006. He appears on acclaimed jazz bassist Christian McBride's Live At
Tonic. On both The Coalition of the Willing and Live at Tonic he plays
6-string guitars. He also played guitar on the track "Me and Chuck"
from the Les Claypool and the Holy Mackerel album, Highball with the
Devil, released in 1996. Hunter contributed to three songs for
D'Angelo's Voodoo (2000), including "The Root". Hunter has stated that
the session for the song was the most challenging session he has worked
on. Back on May 29th, 2005, John Mayer had Charlie Hunter and Steve
Jordan come into the studio to record an unwritten song for his album
'Continuum.' The song, which later became "In Repair" was recorded
and written on the fly in one day.
In the summer of 2007, Charlie toured with a trio that included New
York keyboardist Erik Deutsch and New York/New Orleans drummer
Simon Lott. This trio recorded the July, 2007 Fantasy release Mistico.
In 2008, Hunter recorded his first self-release, Baboon Strength.
Featured on the record are Erik Deutch on keys and Tony Mason on
drums.
In 2010 Charlie released his second solo outing, Public Domain. Not
since Solo Eight-String Guitar a decade ago has Charlie made a
recording of just him and his guitar. This time, he's down to 7-strings
and is performing songs that are all public domain. The songs were all
hand-picked by Charlie's grandfather.
Drumming sensation Terence Higgins from the Dirty Dozen Brass Band
will be joining Charlie in Ottawa and Hamilton (This Ain't Hollywood,
Wed April 20).

RIDDIM RIDERS
~~ CD Release!!!
~~ + Birthday songs for Bob Marley
~~ reggae, roots, dub
~~ + Dj Themes & Guests
@ Casbah -- 9PM -- LIC/AA :: $8 or $15 w/CD
Finally! On February 5th Riddim Riders will release their much-
anticipated first CD. A lot of people have been asking for it and
after numerous delays Hamilton's finest live roots reggae act is
thrilled to have some smoking hot tunes available. The 8 songs
were recorded at Grant Avenue Studio, plus a bit of tweaking at
Orcana Recording Studios and Catherine North Studios. Mixed by
Toronto's international Juno Award-winning reggae crew
Dubmatix, guest appearances include ISax on sax (worked with
Canadian legends Lighthouse and Downchild Blues Band, plus
reggae acts Sly and Robbie, Gregory Isaacs, Ken Boothe), and
Jamie "Lips" Cameron from the band Lo-Fi adds a guitar solo on
the track "Only Solution", plus a few of his signature chops near
the beginning of the song.
The 8-song release stays true to the foundations of classic reggae
and lovers rock, while at the same time adding elements that are
completely modern through the innovative use of keyboard hooks,
backing vocals, and creamy guitar riffs. The self-titled CD includes
songs Ask Yourself, Please Don't Go, Dreamin', Do You Ever
Wonder, No One, Only Solution, Rock On, and Jah Music. All
songs written by Riddim Riders except Rock On which is a classic
Gregory Isaacs tune.
Riddim Riders are Franklin Joseph on drums & vocals, Richard
Dailey on bass & vocals, Erold Dailey on keys & vocals, Brian
Carson on guitar, and Mike Rajczak on lead vocals & percussion.
