  4. Friday October 9th Cam Malcolm and The Owls, Make Your Exit, The Paint Movement, Yukon Blonde @ Casbah Lounge -- 8PM -- 19+ :: $7 306 King Street West, Hamilton http://www.myspace.com/cammalcolm http://www.myspace.com/makeyourexit http://www.myspace.com/thepaintmovement http://www.myspace.com/yukonblondeband Cam Malcolm and The Owls After cutting his teeth with critically adored, Peterborough rockers, The Sweet Homewreckers, Cam Malcolm is now all growns up, recently graduated, and on the search for new musical direction. With the demise of the Homewreckers, Cam has returned home to Hamilton, Ontario where he recorded his debut solo effort: A Little Bit Of History. The largely homespun EP contains six tracks, each exploring different musical shades while chronicling his own personal and historical stories. On stage, he can often be found accompanied by 'The Owls,' a surly crew of musicians usually including brother Fraser Malcolm on drums, Adam Melnick on bass, and James Taylor on guitar. Make Your Exit “Make Your Exit wowed me from the get-go, as they showcased a sound that was not unlike the many collective type bands that our country has grown synonymous with. They actually reminded me quite a bit of one of my other current local faves, namely The Paint Movement. Both bands are very celebratory in feel, as they try to straddle that fine line between jammy-ness and over blown pretentiousness. Thankfully, neither band cross over that line, and Make Your Exit are an example of art-mospheric jazz tinged brass rock culminating in a soaring climax that is hard to follow.†The Paint Movement A group of 4 close friends living in the slumberous suburban sprawl of mississauga, ON got together and started writing songs collectively in February of 2007. As their passion for music has always been, their unique individual playing styles and commitment has grown exceptionally throughout the process of recording their first full-length C.D. in (singer/guitarists) Kevin Kraliks basement turned studio. See Make Your Exit description for more info. Yukon Blonde Yukon Blonde is Jeff Innes, Brandon Scott, Adam Newton, and Graham Jones – a band from the rolling hills of Kelowna, a city that enjoys, and is cursed by it’s own burgeoning scene. Going under the name AlphaBaby from early 2005 until late 2008, the band has conquered their fair city and toured through Canada extensively, playing some 300 shows whilst performing alongside bands such as Ladyhawk, The Constantines, Jon-Rae Fletcher, Magnolia Electric Co, Black Mountain, and Women. As AlphaBaby, (then a quintet) the band also released two EPs: "You Gentle Crustacean", recorded by Colin Stewart of The Hive Creative Labs in Vancouver BC, and "AlphaBaby Live", a bootleg by dear friend Kaylub Burke.
  5. Saturday October 10th Daniel Roth, Dave Lotimer, Marc Perri @ Casbah Lounge -- 7:30PM-10PM -- 19+ :: $5 306 King Street West, Hamilton http://www.myspace.com/danielrothmusic http://www.myspace.com/davelotimer Daniel Roth - Promised Land (2009) Available on iTunes Influences: Neil Young, Ryan Adams, Hayden You can bet Dan Roth is playing his guitar at this very moment. An accomplished musician from a young age, Dan’s first gig was as a founding member of the Aurora-based rock band 'Harpoon Dodger'. Dan quickly set himself apart from the crowd of electric guitar players that tend to haunt high school hallways; his distinctly lush tones and driving melodies were at the heart of the band’s first release in 2005. Dan has since leant his talents on guitar to other artists: he wrote and recorded with Dala on their 2007 album, “Who Do You Think You Areâ€; he has also toured extensively with Windsor’s own Pat Robitaille. In the last few years Dan has added the titles of recording engineer and producer to his list of accomplishments. In fact, he spent much of 2008 working on singer/songwriter Luke Nares’ album “Sleepwalking Raceâ€. With influences like Neil Young, Ryan Adams and Hayden, it was inevitable that Dan would one day find his voice. In his own words: “Hayden, through his music and singing style, gave me permission to start singing.†Dan’s sincerity as a lyricist is truly striking. He has a gentle and coaxing voice that commands attention, and with his intensity as a guitar player he manages to cast a spell on any audience. He released his first independent record as a singer/songwriter in the Winter of 2008, and his latest record, 'Promised Land', is scheduled to be released in the Summer of 2009. Never one to rest on his laurels, Dan has also become an integral member of the up-and-coming alt-rock country band "Cavaliers", as both a co-writer and lead guitarist. Daniel Roth has energy to burn and music has become his fire. You will definitely want to come closer. Dave Lotimer - Folk Rock, Reggae, Jazz Born and raised in Southern Ontario, Dave Lotimer’s rhythmic guitar playing and smooth voice tell the story of a wide range of experiences. From exploring the Canadian wilderness to backpacking through India and South East Asia, Dave’s unique style portrays the world as seen through his own eyes. Having just completed a Canadian Tour following the release of his first solo album ‘February’, Dave brings passion, presence, and consciousness to the stage. His specific interests in human interaction and the natural environment allow him to explore thoughts and emotions through music, making his music a conscious expression that is genuinely accessible to his audience. He is a strong believer that positive attitudes can help shape the future of our natural spaces and hopes to draw his listeners in to this empowering vibe. Keep an eye (and ear) out for this talented musician and his always engaging live performances.

  9. CAVALIERS! & MARY MILNE Wednesday, July 15, 2009 with guests Marc Olszewski and Marc Perri @ Casbah Lounge – 8PM – LIC/AA :: $5 306 King Street West, Hamilton (905) 521-4441 Still buzzing from their stunning Hamilton debut in January alternative country musicians the Cavaliers! return to the Casbah on July 15. CAVALIERS! http://www.myspace.com/thecavaliersmusic (Newmarket, Ontario) Alternative country musicians Cavaliers! have a steadily growing audience for their sweet and harmonious vocals and the downcast beauty of their music. In April 2007, Mich Verrier and Adam Pariselli, two members of the reggae band The Expos, approached Britton Allison to begin collaborating on this new alt country project. Mike Del Borello, from the band Crookedhook, and long- time friend of Pariselli, jumped on board to create steady and outstanding rhythm for the band. Soon after, Dan Roth joined to cap off the band, using atmospheric electric guitar to create an overall outstanding sound. After recording their debut album with Mitch Girio during the summer of 2007, they are now ready to take the world by storm. Influenced by artists such as Ryan Adams, Neko Case, Wilco, Stars and Lucinda Williams, their male-female vocal combination and country-influenced songs leave listeners begging for more. These multi-talents, all hailing from different genres of music, have come together to form something unique and completely undeniable. http://www.myspace.com/thecavaliersmusic -------------- Mary Milne http://www.marymilne.ca (Toronto, Ontario) Five years ago Mary opened a vintage clothing shop on Dundas west in Toronto. She thought it would be a good way to practice her guitar playing without anyone telling her to get back to work. Mary quickly became busy honing her live shows-from playing the Free Times and The Cameron in Toronto, The Bitter End and CBGB's in New York to Hallwells Contemporary arts centre in Buffalo. Part folk, part garage sale, occasionally ridiculous, she gets the audiences attention with the offbeat and then keeps it with the incredible strength of her songwriting. ------ Marc Olszewski is a singer/songwriter from the Hamilton area and was once part of the duo "i&i", a staple of the Hess Village music scene in the mid 1990's. "From early on, I realized that the most important thing in music - for me - was a good song," he says. "That song could be by Richard Thompson or it could be by Blondie.... but without good songs there's not much to build upon." His set at the Casbah Lounge will feature original material as well as a couple of favorites from his personal collection. Look for his current recordings on myspace in the weeks to come! and Marc Perri (folk/blues/rock) The soul of Otis Redding giving Johnny Cash a high five.
