Black Horse before Molson bought it!

Try Charles DeLint. He hangs out at the folklore center, so you may be able to contact him through there, if he is still in Ottawa.

Chris Moore's Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal. One of the funniest things I read in years.

Well, I have my BA, MA in English Lit. Yup, a real moneymaker! Cuurently writing technical guides for a software company, and hating it.
Have you looked into government positions? There are always new opportunities as policy analysts/advisors. Good pay, good benefits, and one of the few remaining places to get a decent pension. The work can indeed be interesting, but the politiking can be a pain. But, once your in, you can move around form dept to dept until you find something that really inspires you.
Best of luck!

1st Show: Hmm, if memory serves me correctly, Trooper, Memorial Stadium, St. John's NF sometime in the late 70s.
Favorite Show: Clifford Ball
Show I'm pissed I missed: I try not to dwell on the negative, but if I had to say, it would probably be 11/2/98, you know the one

Well, even though the winner has been announced, I'll share my hard luck story. Phish summer tour 98, I was doing Walnut Creek through to the Lemonwheel. All was well until the journey from Pittsburg to Vernon Downs. About an hour west of Syracuse the timing belts on my Subaru went.
I ended up being towed to the nearest town (weedsport-the name is more interesting than the town). Now, I understand that Subaru is an import, but isn't Syracuse a city? It took 3 days to get my timing belts replaced. The Hotel in weedsport charged the equivelent of $100 CDN per night. I spent one night sleeping in the dugout of a local baseball field. The local cop cornered me, asking me why I have been walking around his town for the last couple of days.
Needless to say, I missed the Vernon Downs show (but some guy got an unexpected miracle when I handed him my Vernon ticket at the weedsport service station). In fact, I spent the next 24 hours driving back to Ottawa, picking up my friends, and then heading straight to the LemonWheel. After not having received any rest for the last 4 days (sleeping in my car, in a dugout, or not sleeping at all).
I get to Lemonwheel around 8 am Sat morning. We set up camp, walk about, waiting for the afternoon set. After the first set, I head back to camp to take a nap, which turned into a good night's sleep. Missed the 2nd and 3rd set of the first day.
So, the way I figure it, the lack of Subaru timing belts in Syracuse caused me to miss 4 sets of Phish :^)

Hey Alan D,
Are you heading to any of the Rheo shows? I'm going to hit a few. Maybe we can hook up (it's been quite a while!)

Well, I have been dusting off some old CDs in my collection, and happened upon a gem. My question is, what is your favourite (or you at least consider it a must-have) Canadian non-jam/improv/groove artist/album?
Album: Andrew Cash (and the Little Ones) - Hi
Artist: Fred Eaglesmith

I am so looking forward to this show tomorrow night. I saw DBB open for God Street Wine in Maryland a few years ago (when Jen was still singing) and they smoked!!! Make sure to bring your dancing shoes, folks.

I was working at the Book Mark (Laurier next to the Oak). After finishing my shift, I went next door to the Oak for a pint and some eats. The waitress sees my Steal Your Face tshirt and says "You must be very sad." "About what?" I ask. I then find out about Jerry's passing. My pint and eats turned into a 3 day drink/smoke fest.
RIP Jerry!

Hey folks,
Just letting people know that The Music Never Stopped and the Real Gone Daddies are teaming up again July 20th at the Bayou.

What about the correction Dave made after the first commercial. During the opening he said trey was formerly of Phish, then corrected himself saying that Trey was still in Phish.
They are really playing up this "we haven't broken up" thing.
Unfortunately, I fell asleep before Trey played.

Yeah, HWOSG is a great book. If you haven't read them, check these out:
1. Foucault's Pendulum (Umberto Eco)
2. The Magus (John Fowles)
3. Mr. Nice (Howard Marks, a great auto-bio of a drug smuggler)
4. Pecked to Death by Ducks (Tim Cahill)
5. New Confessions (William Boyd)
Currently reading This Side of Paradise, 1917 Revolution, Riding the Iron Rooster, and re-reading the Magus.

1. Black Horse (pre Molson buyout)
2. India
3. Old Stock
4. Blue Star
5. Doesn't matter, everything else tastes the same.
Cheers!

I'm not sure of the correct protocol for slapping a bull...but a motorcycle accident that forced him to cancel a tour a few years ago (maybe 6 or 7 years ago), marriage to Julia, and now this! Been a tough life for that cowboy.
If you do get a chance, do go see Lyle. The man is a class act!

I love the enthusiasm you folks on the Sanctuary display! Sounds like Sun night will be a blast. While I will be in Ottawa this weekend, I will be leaving on Sun so I can make it to work Monday morning. Hopefully I'll be able to get out Thursday night for AMB.

OK, I'll pipe in for some of my favorites!
1. Lyle Lovett. Anything by the man (Lyle: "That girl was so ugly" Dude:"Well, you ugly too!")
2. Tim O'Brien (Played with Phish Red Rocks 08-07-96). Red on Blonde is a great bluegrassy Dylan tribute album.

Christopher Moore is great! I have read all of his work (he has a new book coming out in March!)
If you haven't read Lamb yet, get it! By far his best work.
