Not mine but I did participate in racking up a similar tab a few months back at The Real Sports Bar. There were 0 bottles of water on our bill though I'm quite sure of that. I even won about $35 on the way out betting on what the total was--can't recall what it was but it was similar to this one for sure. If the arm is bouncing around then likely 1 of 2 things is afoot: 1-the arm is out of balance, too little weight 2- the stylus(diamond tip) has gone bye bye. It could well be gunked up--there are several methods for cleaning, a proper carbon brush would work best but there is a magic eraser and also a sandpaper method that can be effective as well but you have to be careful. Planet of sound or similar would likely have a brush but it might be as much as the 30 buck replacement that you mentioned. Anyways, check the arm balance first and if that is as it should be have a close look to see if the stylus is still attached or not and if so then a cleaning is likely in order.

That said, I went looking for something commercial free to put on the Squeezebox while I'm working and came across Radio Paradise. Yes, it's probably that the cable box has a variable audio output and the volume on the box itself is down. There may be a way in the settings of the box itself to change it from variable to fixed audio output but if not then crank it up all the way or close to and you should have similar levels to the rest of your gear. Check if the volume coming out of the stereo changes when you raise and lower the volume on the Rogers box and if so then that's it.

Just as I suspected, it's been a down year for music. There are a few that I like, Spoon is one that comes to mind as well as The Acorn but overall I have heard a lot of OK stuff but not a lot that was really outstanding. There is still some listening that I have to do though, I would be curious to hear again what others think were the best this year.

Rule #1-Don't ask a bunch of people who don't know about TV's about TV's. I see this on PT all the time and it is absolutely hilarious. There are lots of video specific forums that have tons of great information on them. A lot of the people who sell this stuff hardly have a clue as to what is going on--the hobbyist/enthusiast crowd are the ones that can steer you right--just as you could likely find out what the top 5 Slip shows of all time are on this site, you can quickly and easily find out what the top 5 50-55" models are on the AVS forum or similar. Rule #2-Go out and look with your own eyes. You may find that one set or another has less glare, better viewing angles, better colour, less grain etc. Deciding on X, Y, or Z brand before you go out and look is not a good idea as different models/sizes from a given brand can be sourced from different manufacturers--for example a Sony 40" can look like shit but the 55" is tits due to where the actual panels themselves are being sourced from. There are lots of good deals on this weekend so it is a good time to buy.

This would imply that regular record shops and the like will have this available though. The download part will likely be easy to find online anyhow.
