Esau
Great idea, I had heard about this before but didn't realize it was as easily available to people as that. Cheers to em!
snarfmaster C
"I signed up for the auction and bought (an allowance to emit) one ton of SO2 myself for about 80 bucks." Although prices have more than quadrupled since then... wow. i wonder how that price was set. i think this whole capitalist approach they've got goin on would work a lot better if the REAL cost of pollution were approximated and incorporated into the cost of products and services. you'd better believe a ton of SO2 is gonna do a lot more than $80 worth of damage ---- how much SO2 would it take to make the planet uninhabitable and how many thousands of people and corporations could actually afford to buy up the allowances to produce that amount ?!?!?! wild. that's somn to think aboot. good to know individuals are smart and creative enough to realise that this permit-buying is a feasible method in taking environmental rights into their own hands. way to go, peeps!
