Jaimoe Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 I beat you to the punch Mr. Musicface and TimmyB. Happy Birthday Geddy! Born Gary Weinrib on July 29, 1953, in Toronto, his parents migrated from Europe to Canada and got his nickname "Geddy" from when his mother would try to pronounce "Gary" in her accent.
TimmyB Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 Yes you did beat me to the punch Jaimoe, but that's alright, the more love the better. Happy Birthday Geddy Lee. I'm so looking forward to my sixth Rush Concert at the Molson Amphitheatre on Sunday August 22, 2004! Here's hoping for a cover of "Mr. Soul."
Jaimoe Posted July 29, 2004 Author Report Posted July 29, 2004 I'm so looking forward to my sixth Rush Concert at the Molson Amphitheatre on Sunday August 22, 2004! Here's hoping for a cover of "Mr. Soul." Don't get me started.
TimmyB Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 I'm hoping for a version of the Who's "The Seeker" too or how about "Summertime Blues?" Speaking of the Who, this is the seventh anniversary of the Who performing "Quadrophenia" at the Molson Amphitheatre. Great show, though it wasn't as good as the HSBC Arena show months before with Billy Idol as the Bellboy and Gary Glitter as the Godfather.
Jaimoe Posted July 29, 2004 Author Report Posted July 29, 2004 I skipped the Quadrophenia tour, even though that's my second favourite Who album behind Live At Leeds. I think I boycotted the show for reasons that don't seem as dubious today.I've never been a big fan of The Who's " Summertime Blues ". I prefer the original by Eddy Cochran or the garage anthem version by Blue Cheer.I do like The Seeker however. My beef with Rush's cover album only lies in the unimaginative song selections.
TimmyB Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 Hey Jaimoe, I asked you at the Orbit Room on Monday if you have seen the Who and you replied that you went to a John Entwistle solo gig. Have you not seen the Who? And if so is it because of a boycott? Man life is too short, to not see the artists you love because of a boycott. I know it's not the same as when Keith Moon and John Entwistle were in the band, but I'm sure like me we were only babies when Moon was still alive. It's still great to see Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey with Zak Starkey and Pino Palladino. I know I enjoyed the Air Canada Centre show a couple of years ago.
Del Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 My beef with Rush's cover album only lies in the unimaginative song selections. My beef with the only song I've heard off of that album (Summertime Blues) is that it sucks ass... Dave-O's high school Rush cover band could have done that song more justice than Rush does... What's even more funny is how the radio stations collectively rammed Rush's version down our throats, and people actually started to like it... Come on, all other Rush arguements aside, Summertime Blues is one of the worst things ever played on the radio... God bless Can-Con, how would sh!tty songs like this get played without it?
secondtube Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 nice, another chance to snipe out Geddy Lee... Bang!
secondtube Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 i agree del, 'cept the Seeker is the worst cover of them all...
Jaimoe Posted July 29, 2004 Author Report Posted July 29, 2004 I've seen The Who twice, Entwistle once and Pete Townshend @ Massey Hall once in 1992 - best concert I've ever seen. I think at the time of the Quadrophenia tour I thought The Who went on the road because they were " only in it for the money " and Townshed stated that fact enough in interviews. That pissed me off and I boycotted the show. No regrets, even thoug I heard it was a good show. I rememeber Moon quite well, although I never saw him live. I was shocked as a 10 year old when I learned of his death. The Who even back in 1978 were of interest to me, even though at that time, The Beatles were my favourite band, along with the Stones.
Del Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 I haven't heard The Seeker, although I'm sure if Rush attempted to cover it it sucks ass... Even friends of mine that are Rush fans think this cover album was horrible...
Jaimoe Posted July 29, 2004 Author Report Posted July 29, 2004 I've never heard one note from Rush's new album. I'm only judging it by the song selections.
secondtube Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 i saw that who tour Jaimoe. It was my first concert ever. 1998 i'm pretty sure.... highlight for me was the behind blue eyes for encore.... actually the whole 7 FREAKING SONG ENCORE kicked my ass... the show at the ACC in 2000 wasn't Nearly as good. Not even close. I'm sorry you missed it Jaimoe. I know how much you would have enjoyed that show! Steve
dave-O Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 My beef is Del bringing up my dirty past... again... Happy Birthday to the greatest vocalist in Canadian rock history! (IMO Summertime Blues is putrid)
Del Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 Embrace your roots Dave-O! I still remember getting you to play that Zeppelin tune for me all the time when you first got that steel guitar...
secondtube Posted July 29, 2004 Report Posted July 29, 2004 i didn't know it was Cummings birthday today too! Happy BDay Burton! (joke, joke, Neil's the best vocalist...but Burton comes DAMN close.....Geddy who?)
