Is Monday a Statutory Holiday?

I started this new job and our boss just told us that we have to take Monday as a vacation day if we want it off because it's not an official statutory holiday. I've always had this day off everywhere else I worked. Have I just had cooler employers in the past?

It's a civic hliday, brah... Meaning, you just had cool employers (or you worked at a bank/government job) before...

Hmmm...I checked the Ont. gov't pages, and found this, which doesn't include it, but says

Some employers give their employees a holiday on Easter Sunday, Easter Monday, the first Monday in August, or Remembrance Day. However, these days are not public holidays under the ESA.

Apparently it's called New Brunswick Day out here. :: If that means stay home and get drunk, I'm all over it.

My outlook calendar says that monday is New Brunswick Day, British Columbia Day AND Saskatchewan Day!
