guigsy Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 alright... so, went and saw this band last night in Harris Park in London, got absolutely soaking fu©king wet... we might as well have just jumped in that disgusting river... but it was a fu©king blast... thorgnor, his girl, her friend, and a couple of thorg's buddies... really good time runnin' around downtown london in one of those "we've indulged a lot, and we got a lot of energy, and the rain is just feeding that adrenaline, so lets be idiots and have a great time" kinda moments, there was a water fight with a 12 year old, whipping's with wet shirts, a lot of confusion, and my favourite quote of the night came from a little kid as we were walking to the park for the show, already soaked to the bone: "duuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhh"... yeah, the 8 year old knew, but the 20 somethings couldnt give a sh!t...anyways, yeah, the band, well, we all thought it was a free show... yeah, it was, from far away... to get up closer you had to pay 10 bucks... that is, if they wanted to take your money, which they didnt. they werent selling anymore tickets when we got there, with about 20 minutes left... its not like it was full, but its nice to know they're not greedy... insert heady eyes rolling smiley here... so, we watched and listened from a far... i should say i only listened, cuz i couldnt see sh!t from all the rain on my fuckin glasses... anyone else have that problem? any bit of light disperses like crazy on the lens, and you cant see fu©k all... anyways, back to the band... so, the Trews, gotta say, i was kinda diggin' what they were doin, not hugely, but i can respect where they came from and they were definatly rockin', it was accessible rock music, and i can see why they're gonna be real big. honestly, i felt as though i was watching the next Nickelback. to me, they have that sound, that big rock sound, that typical chad kroeger, staind, default, turn your radio to any "alternative/new rock" station in your city and this is what you'll hear type vocal delivery and well, if someone said "hey, you guys got the right idea, here's a bunch of cash, can ya just play it like this?", why wouldnt they say yes? thats the kind of disappointing thing, because i can see where this is gonna progress to...i dunno, anyone else who's seen them more than i have, have an opinion on that? im curious...i will say i'm kinda looking forward to seeing what they do at Evolve... so long as it doesnt coincide with The Slip, Nero, GTB, Burt, Rheos, Spearhead, or anyone else, really... i think with the right time slot they'll blow the fuckin roof off that barn...
meggo Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 man... i'm looking forward to seeing them tomorrow... but i really hope they don't sound like nickelback/hodge podge of growly angst bands, it kind of makes me wince. maybe they were just trying on their nickelback hat yesterday. hope so.
Thorgnor Posted July 31, 2004 Report Posted July 31, 2004 Hilarious!!!! The most fun I've had on a rainy show night in downtown london ever! Thanks again Scott for all the towels and things and the warm post up before heading home in wet clothes:)!!!!!! Can't wait for a beach party after the puddle jumping!
