meggo Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 or "drunken" as we called it in university, ahhh the young minds put to good work... duncan is a small town less than an hour up-island from victoria. their claim to fame is the copious amount of totem poles found there. neil plays on september 17th for some kind of protest... i think it may be logging. definitely jealous of anyone who can make it to this one!
secondtube Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 hmmm, wonder what a plane ticket would cost....
snarfmaster C Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 i heard the concert is to benefit a community-environmental group so they can afford to assess the impact of a local mill switching to burning tires for fuel. ::
c-towns Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 www.jetsgo.net has some pretty smokin deals right now, especially on Sunday mornings, return flights for a $1
secondtube Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 c-towns, i've never booked a flight, or even looked for one.... can u check to see how much (the cheapest) flight for two, return, from Hamilton or Toronto would cost.
shainhouse Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 wow, that'd be a party. schmelzer invades the left coast! look out!
secondtube Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 i'm just waiting for Neil to do his Japan tour... I'll do the WHOLE thing! Neil, to me, is BY FAR the best musician touring today.
shainhouse Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 I couldn't agree more. I'm hoping for a UK tour...
PhishyK Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 Drunken Duncan, city of scrotums... Worst town on Van Isle by a country mile. Yuck! The big hockey stick IS pretty sweet, though.
TimmyB Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 All who know me know that Neil Young is my favorite. I'm still distraught that Farm Aid is in Washingtown state this year, breaking my skreak of six Farm Aids in a row. I made a post about this benefit a month or two ago. Randy Bachman a resident of the area has gotten Neil Young, the Barenaked Ladies and Bachman's son Tal to perform at this benefit. You couldn't get tickets via ticketmaster, and I'm sure the venue being so small, it's completely sold out.
meggo Posted August 10, 2004 Author Report Posted August 10, 2004 worst on van isle, you really think so? i always though port alberni was kinda pooey. although they did endure a tsunami, which is pretty cool. i too am itchin to see neil again soon.
Velvet Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 I found Naniamo to be a bit sketchy. At least the Cambie was.
meggo Posted August 10, 2004 Author Report Posted August 10, 2004 hah, i did hear nanaimo referred to as the anus of BC. or the armpit. no i think port alberni was the armpit and nan was the anus. gross.
Esau Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 At least the Cambie was. When did it move from Van? Last time I stayed there it was in Van. Or is this another Cambie?
meggo Posted August 10, 2004 Author Report Posted August 10, 2004 cambie in van = soooo dirty, and soooo fun! there{s one in nanaimo, van, vic, and maybe more??? i{m pretty sure they{re all holes ::
Esau Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 Ahhh, that makes sense.I loved the place in Van...stayed upstairs for a couple weeks...LOL.Best was my first ever time in Van and walking in there (by chance & thirst) and hearing my name yelled out loud and reuniting with a buddy from my youth, sadly he was a ramblin wreck messed on junk but I did stay with him until I located who I went there to find....Good times.
guigsy Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 just about everyone i know who's been to Van has a cambie story... classic!
PhishyK Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 The Cambie in Victoria is the sketchiest lil' cowboy burger beer hellhole you've ever been to. My old jam band played there twice. We'd rip some blues in soundcheck and they'd all be whooping it up, but by the time our set came around they'd be watching all the hippies dancing like "WTF?" The good old days
meggo Posted August 10, 2004 Author Report Posted August 10, 2004 hey K, what band did you play in? i was at the cambie in vic once to see recipe play. it snowed that night, so weird!!
PhishyK Posted August 10, 2004 Report Posted August 10, 2004 Chameleon was our name. When do I get to meet you anyways Meggo!? I've got a new groovy celtic funkjamband to show you. seeya
meggo Posted August 10, 2004 Author Report Posted August 10, 2004 chameleon, eh? neato. you can meet me when you come up to ottawa!!! it'll be very exciting. and bring your band, too. ::
