Dude,

I really hope that this post gets you where you gotta be - Queen's Day - Amsterdam - April 29 - 30. Best two days of the year you could possibly visit that city!!!

Amsterdam is a pretty small population - about 1 to 1.5 million people. Imagine every last one of them out partying in the streets. Live music, art displays, vendors of "everything" under the sun.

Then imagine another super-amped one million dutch from all over the rest of holland visiting an already packed Amsterdam.

Great vibe. Great people. One of the best parties around.

Go.

Is there a reason you're going to Glasgow? I was looking to visit Scotland some years ago, and a Scottish friend of mine heartily recommended Edinburgh over Glasgow. I said that Glasgow had come a long way in recent years, and he replied, "Yes, but they've come back from ground zero of a major industrial accident!" (said "industrial accident" being the decline of some major industries, with the associated decline in the city as well).

I went to Edinburgh, and had a ball. (I didn't go to Glasgow, so can't offer any direct comparisons.)

Aloha,

Brad

Thanks TomFoolery for the Amsterdam info, gonna definitely have to work that into plans and BradM, the reason for Glasgow, is that it is the easiest for flights to base ourselves in Scotland as at the end of the trip we will be staying with my buddies family in Aberdeen. Just easiest for flights, i have also heard good things about Edinburg, in reality we really probably won't be spending much time in Glasgow, moreso in Aberdeen.

Ah, OK about Aberdeen. When I went, I was coming from/via London, and so could make either just as easily, so opted for Edinburgh.

As far as where to stay, there's a line of hotels called Ibis that's pretty good. (It's part of the Accor chain. They're generally rated "2 star", but that's more for what they don't have (no gym, no pool, no cable TV, etc.) rather than the quality of them, which is good: they're clean, well-lit, often feature buffet breakfast at reasonable prices, etc. They're considered "budget" hotels, and are a bit minimalist (esp. when it comes to furniture), but I used them in Edinburgh and on the continent, and was very satisfied with them.

Aloha,

Brad

Wow, lucky you!!! I would recommend looking into Ryan Air for traveling to Ireland--you can get a flight there for one pound (+ 50 pound tax) which still equals severely cheap...

Glasgow is actually a pretty cool place--if you can do it, try and go see either a Celtic or Ranger match there, amazing experience.... Just make sure you wear the right colours!!!

Edinburgh is beautiful, more touristy, lots of pubs and young travelers about... I would recommend staying at the Princess St. West Backpackers--320 beds, and in my opinion, the best hostel on earth... Tonnes of happy, friendly folks there... I also have two friends living in Edinburgh, I can let them know you are heading there, and they could show you around, or maybe provide some space, have to check with them...

Also, I would recommend checking out Belfast while you are in Dublin, its a 3 hour bus ride, and the history and party scene is sound... The International Youth Hostel there is friendly and central.... Have a few pubs tips there as well...

Amsterdam is incredible, I was there 8yrs ago--8yrs--Wow!!! Anyhow, I would recommend checking out the Doors Whiskey Bar patio for a few pints and a few spliffs, and listening to groovy tunes and watch the Crazy world of Amsterdam go by...Also, Hill Street Blues is a sound pub as well, tonnes of character--- I traveled with a girl, and I passed on the Redlight District--not really my bag--but, craziness there for sure... Anyhow, not sure what has changed in the last 8 yrs, but, have a wonderful time--happy trails!!!

Wow thanks for the info and offers peeps. I may take you up on that Shainhouse, I am still not even 100% if we are going to Manchester or not (I have a guy over there trying to get me tix to the Man United/Newcastle game on the 23rd, if we don't get tix then we probably won't make it to Manchester). Number 2 we would have loved to see a game in Glasgow, only problem being the only game when we're there is the Old Firm derby, yeah Celtic VS Rangers, impossible to get tickets for unrotunately, we are planning on being in the city during the game though so it should be INSANE! And we are using RyanAir to get around gotta love those 1$ flights!!! keep em coming folks love the info

I went to Amsterdam a few years ago! If you can find it, I'd recommend checking out the coffee shop called ABRAXAS. It was a swanky joint with excellent nuggets and atmosphere, friendly staff, minimal sketchiness, multi floors, etc.

Also definitely the Van Gogh museum.

Have fun!

Heres my only post from da road. In Dublin now, had an INSANE time in Amsterdam, I actually have a crazy story to tell from there that I will let y'all know about when I get back. I've lost count of the beers, bars and pubs but good gawd, it's been fun. Talk tya'all when I get's back. Viva la revolution!!!
