Booche Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 Come on StnMtn................Shouldnt that be in purple?
Kaidy Mae Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 Thanks StoneMtn! Luckily I can get free tickets to the Casino shows (though I've yet to see anything there...even though I heard War rocked and were a great bunch of guys to party with). A friend of mine met up with Aykroyd in North Bay a few years ago and told me that old Dan did enough blow to down a horse. Not that shocking, but I wouldn't have thought he'd still be into the powder after all these years. Who knows? I'm usually a bad judge of these things (oh, so innocent...hahaha). Could be some fun times, I'll probably round up the Osillia crew.
Booche Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 True story. Dan used to come into TRU in Kingston from time to time. One afternoon, (he always wore big cowboy-type hats and sunglasses) I think he may have been on the *something*. He was wandering around lost (keep in mind, that is easy to do at Toys R Us). Anywho, my girlfriend at the time noticed him standing inside the store, waiting for the sliding ENTRANCE doors to open so he could get out. She is laughing her arse off while watching him stare at the glass doors, not saying anything until what seemed like minutes later when she finally piped up with "Excuse me sir, that is the Entrance. The Exit is over here."I guess he looked up at the sign, turned around and promptly made his way to the Exit.
StoneMtn Posted April 14, 2005 Author Report Posted April 14, 2005 Come on StnMtn................Shouldnt that be in purple?Nope. If this is the band now known as Booker T and the MGs plus Paul Schaeffer, I'd be there if I were in the area. I've seen them play with Neil Young as well as the "Blues Bros." (or what is now known as such) and well worth the price of admission.
Booche Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 Hey, I aint knocking Matt 'guitar' Murphy, Donald 'Duck' Dunn, Alan 'Mr Fabulous' Rubin or any of those dudes. Hell, I LOVE THEM although I really dont know who is in the band these days. I'm not so much blindly commenting as I am asking that you look at my avatar.
StoneMtn Posted April 14, 2005 Author Report Posted April 14, 2005 hahahahaha! Okay, I missed that obvious point, and considering your avatar is the one member of the band who I am certain won't be there, I get your comment.
timouse Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 i went to the casino page and had to scroll through the list of coming attractions. after seeing ads for toto, bjorn again, reba macentyre, joan rivers, and glenn frey i couldn't take it. i think just being in that place would give me the willies. niffermouse and i have been to one casino in our lives, and it was way too weird and sad. your mileage may vary.
StoneMtn Posted April 14, 2005 Author Report Posted April 14, 2005 Sorry, you're skipping a show you would otherwise consider attending because musicians you dislike play the same venue?Although I don't get the logic, does it change your opinion knowing that Steve Winwood is also playing there this summer?
Dr_Evil_Mouse Posted April 14, 2005 Report Posted April 14, 2005 I wonder if it's not the human fungability element that seems to go with the place. Kinda like old Lulu's in Kitchener.
timouse Posted April 16, 2005 Report Posted April 16, 2005 Sorry, you're skipping a show you would otherwise consider attending because musicians you dislike play the same venue?Although I don't get the logic, does it change your opinion knowing that Steve Winwood is also playing there this summer? i hadn't actually thought of it that way...it's really more to do with the whole casino atmosphere. what was dr evil's phrase? human fungability? casinos give me the willies generally, and knowing that 90% of the entertainment they serve up is, well, somewhat on the cheezy (and pricey!!!) side...i think i'd rather see them in bob's country bunker having said that, i might consider it if it's the original band...and dan ackroyd plays a mean harp! he sat in with levon helm and the barnburners a couple years ago in toronto and it was brilliant. and steve winwood is no slouch either, i'd just be afraid of getting there on the wrong night and seeing Bjorn Again (casino-related shudder)
Velvet Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 When I saw the Blues Brothers with Dan and Jim, the band was Eddie Floyd, Donald "Duck" Dunn, Steve Cropper, Steve Potts, Matt "Guitar" Murphy, Larry Thurston, Lou Marini, Al "Mr. Fabulous" Rubin, Birch Johnson, Leon Pendarvis, and Paul Shaffer. It was awesome and I wanna go see 'em again. Also I've been looking for an excuse to get to Casino Rama.Carstairs, you in? I'll get tickets.
bONES Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 Although I don't get the logic, does it change your opinion knowing that Steve Winwood is also playing there this summer? and Tim McGraw for 2 nights... now you're thinking differently aren't ya
